For those saying Carew is not good because he doesn't have the power to punish high and inside, what do you think the minimum power rating is so that this isn't a problem? I'm looking at other players that have more power than Carew but not necessarily tons of power, and I'm wondering if they have enough.

With the power swing button, the ratings threshold to hit home runs seems to be around 50.
That's also assuming you are puling the ball, which obviously makes for easier home run swings.
I'm not sure what the ratings threshold is for X button swings, but it definitely seems like it's around 60.
That's on all-star difficulty, at least. The ratings threshold would probably be lower on easier difficulties.
I've played most of my games this year on all-star difficulty and I only swing with the X button. So far I've hit 20 HR in 165 at-bats with Live Series Yaseil Puig and his power is a 59 against righties. Most of those homers are pull swings on inside pitches to his cold zone.Last edited by jyoung; 05-03-2016, 03:51 PM.Comment

It depends on whether or not you are comfortable using the power swing button.

Thanks for the good answer, a lot of info there. I know you said you think the threshold for hitting a homer probably goes down on the lower difficulties, do you think it goes up on the higher difficulties (moving up from all-star) or do you think the game uses other ways to make the game more challenging on that setting, and that a guy who can hit a home run on all star can also do it on legend?Comment

PLAYER NAME AND OVERALL
Jordan Schafer
76 OVR
CF
Free agent
STATS:
98 Speed
99 Stealing
99 Aggression
99 Drag Bunt
99 Bunt
62 Con R
43 Con L
67 Fielding
73 Arm Strength
86 Reaction
Fielding:
He's somewhat of a liability with his low fielding rating, you are pretty much forced to play him in center field. His speed is nice to have in the OF, but I don't really feel like speed translates well into range in the OF. His arm is not great and people will run on him but it's good enough that it isn't going to absolutely kill you. The 43 arm accuracy is a bit of an issue at times but he's already not going to be throwing anyone out so it's not a deal breaker by any means.
Hitting:
This where this card really shines, the 99 drag bunt can result in getting a bunt single at least half of the time if the pitcher throws a strike in the zone and doesn't adjust the defense to play in to counteract this. He legs out tons of infield singles and shortstops without strong arms or that have to move even the smallest amount to either side to play the ball have a hard time throwing him out.
Baserunning:
Not much to say here, the 99 steal/98 speed makes him one of the deadliest players on the basepaths. When he gets on base he is going to attract attention and change the way hitters are pitched too. I had Justin Turner hitting behind him for a long time and he was leading my team in walks by a wide margin. He is 30/32 on stolen bases for my team, pretty much playing only H2H in DD.
Final Thoughts:
A good stopgap leadoff batter until you get an Ichiro or whatever leadoff batter that you might be working for. He gets on base often from bunt singles and is fast enough to beat out tons infield hits. Another huge factor on why to use or sometimes use a player like this instead of Billy Hamilton is that he isn't susceptible to slumps or poor inside edge ratings like Billy Hamilton. Today's inside edge rating has Billy with a 42 contact vs righties and 49 vs lefties. In the future I'm going to keep both players in my inventory and play Schafer when Billy has a poor inside edge rating. There's also something to be said by knowing the capabilities of a player.Comment

Re: Player Review Thread
I use the analog for hitting, can I still choose contact, normal, or power? I don't think so (I've tried), but I'm not certain.

Re: Player Review Thread
I use pure analog as well. And yes power swing you press square before you get ready to swing, For a normal swing you press X before you get ready to hit (usually what I go with), and for contact you press O before you get ready to hit. If you do it in a game you will notice your PCI is smaller when pressing square as well as the timing being different due to the power swing. Hope this helped!Comment

Re: Player Review Thread
Sorry for not updating this thread over the past week or so. Unfortunately Friday, April 22 my best friends mother passed away suddenly. We're only 22 ourselves and she was practically my second mother. Over the last year or so I've spent more time there with his family than at my own home. We were playing in a co-ed midnight tournament with her and there was a play at the plate and the guy bumped into her. I was on the bench at the time and when he hit her she initially seemed okay but she then looked over at me with a look of fear in her eyes. I asked if she was okay and she put her thumb up and said yeah. A few seconds later she dropped and while we were incredibly lucky to have a nurse that was watching the game and was able to immediately try and resuscitate her, she was unable to bring her back. It was one of the hardest things I've ever gone through which is saying a lot considering my family was home when a tornado hit our home back in 2011. Coincidentally, this all took place on the 5 year anniversary of that tornado back in 2011. She died doing what she loved, which was playing ball with her two sons so there's some comfort in that but it's been a hard few weeks and I haven't felt like posting on here or playing the show at all. Sorry for the life story but figured I would explain why I haven't been here to update this thread.Comment
