Re: Showdown Thread
Oh yeah, that's big. I struggle anyway, so I need any edge I can get.
But...I just tried it twice in a Showdown Moment and my guys both got bad jumps and were thrown out. I was cocky after stealing with Donaldson in Conquest. I tried it with 36 speed Zimmerman and 65 speed Bryan Reynolds against Kyle Wright and Travis D'Arnaud. So I guess you have to be a bit cautious, it doesn't always work.

Re: Showdown Thread
Idk what Travis D's arm strength is but he definitely seems to have a cannon. He didn't get me but he made it close.
I haven't tried it with anyone sub 65 I don't think. If you're struggling try to go when you think you're getting offspeedRead my OS articles: https://www.operationsports.com/author/corydell/Comment

Re: Showdown Thread
Holding R2 just keeps them from pitching. You wait for them to come completely set before holding R2 so they don't throw over. I guess in a sense it locks them into the animation to go to the plate. You just take 2 steps to get the best lead possible and then steal. Piece of cake.
Also agree with everyone who said AL feels more difficult. To me, pitch speeds seem faster in AL vs NL and I can't explain why. I always have trouble adjusting down to Veteran but in this run of the AL I've been late multiple times. Pitch speeds overall just seem different than what I would expect and definitely seem different than the NL. It's the first time in the new Showdowns I've failed multiple moments leading into the final battle.
I'm still going in with 9 runs but it definitely felt more difficult. Not a bad thing or anything since overall these are easier and more enjoyable than the first batch but noticeable.
NL doesn’t have guys like that.Comment

Re: Showdown Thread
Andres Gimenez on the Mets is the Ichiro of the infield. He's been ridiculous for me so far. And these showdowns have really fixed my hitting. I just destroyed the computer on as with 14 hits in 3 innings. It was glorious.Comment

Re: Showdown Thread
Definitely true. And I'm not even suggesting the pitch speeds are different it just really felt like it.Read my OS articles: https://www.operationsports.com/author/corydell/Comment

Re: Showdown Thread
I had fn Kluber as the second boss the one time. So ya AL is harder. I really like how it mixes up stuff up a lot in the second round. I didn't care for the first round so I had only unlocked 4 players. I'm grinding MTO before they decide to patch out the double pay. Which of course they will.Comment

Re: Showdown Thread
Yeah I really need to get on that in case they do. But honestly I don't see why they should. It makes MtO more desirable to play and really ties the whole affinity thing together.

More power to the guys who grind MTO, hope they keep it double.

Re: Showdown Thread
Why do people hate the mode so much? I think MTO is really fun as you get to actually play with some normal players. (I haven't touched franchise in two years). I'm playing the Dodgers on All Star and my only complaint so far is that the dodgers have too many damn lefty bats. They do realize they don't play in Yankee stadium right?Comment

But as a mode it provides a great bite size franchise type mode that doesnt require too much invested.Comment

Re: Showdown Thread
It's fun I think it just gets stale for people that are heavy DD players. I enjoyed it the first run or two through it and really enjoy playing with the Reds but after a bit I need more carrot on a stick reward generation that MTO doesn't offer. And people grinding full runs for a TA card are really going to dislike it because it ends up being a very boring grind.

Re: Showdown Thread
Considering my failure rate on the 1st inning showdowns it will be much quicker to do the MTO. Only the Central showdowns was a consistently able to beat it. AL East and NL East were brutal for me. My hitting has been much better as of late so maybe I should give it another shot.Comment

Re: Showdown Thread
MtO is just a samey kind of grind if you do multiple teams. I don't think you could pay me to do the first stage Showdowns again after the new ones are so much better balanced so MtO is really the only way I'll ever get any of these other affinities doneRead my OS articles: https://www.operationsports.com/author/corydell/Comment

Re: Showdown Thread
Oh yeah if you hadn't done stage one then there is not reason not to do it via MTO right now with double points. I had all the teams up to at least 50 by the end of stage 1 and probably 50%+ up to 70 so for me a I can knock out a tier 1 and 2.5 tier 2 showdowns and have the 120 done.Comment
