I actually did a run last night for the 3rd inning showdown where I didn't use ANY perks. Got down to the final boss (but needed 8 runs to start it) and I couldn't quite close the deal.

I'm going to try it again this evening...

The Kluber 2nd mini boss is the only one that is on All Star. So not only are you going against a 99 rated pitcher but also on a higher difficulty. Makes sense.

Started a NL Stage 2 Showdown and lost the first moment (score against Sixto). Was just going to shut down the PS so I decided to just jump straight to the end against Rockies Rolison without any runs. Ended up beating him with two outs left. I think he’s the easiest final boss but didn’t think I’d win with only the draft squad/perks.

Impressive. Did you hit a lot of HRs being at Coors?

I did, probably about five and with runners on. Stargell was my first pick and he hit a couple. I love that card. Cluberson was my pinch hitter for the pitcher spot and his 3-run homer won it. It was one of those where I thought I just missed it and Desi was gonna go to the wall, raise his hand and catch it. But he got there and tried to jump and it barely went over his glove. Thanks thin air!

              Re: Showdown Thread

Have now failed 1st Inning Showdown about 15 times.

This includes 3 tries by my 27-year-old son, who has better skills than I, most of the time.

After he lost to the last boss (Mariners pitcher, can't remember name), he said "It feels like no matter what I do, I have very little control of what happens." Went into the final boss with 7 runs, I think, and scored about 2 more.

Managed to beat 2nd and 3rd Inning Showdowns, but each took more than 10 tries and hours and hours of time.

I sure hope they continue to evolve this system. I LOVE the idea, and hate the execution.

-- some showdowns take 10 seconds, others can be 30 minute slogs (hit 3 HR's in a game, score 5 runs)
-- the rules for winning are extremely unclear and inconsistent (you have "3 innings"; but then you get 5 (i have seen it) or 3 innings and 1 out (I have seen it) or the whole game, unless a certain event happens that is not made clear in the description (I have seen it)

                Wrong.

Each boss has potentially three different guys who could pitch. Yes, you can see who your final boss is going to be after the first draft (left side of screen, can see the team, and after you have paid stubs and lost several times, you learn who the pitchers will be). But you still had to pay the entry fee, and now (if you have played a bunch of times or do some research and can find it) you know ONLY who the final boss is. You can't possibly know the mini-bosses until you reach them.

You don't Make The Stubs Back if you don't win the moments.

I think we all know how to draft for power and contact against righties or lefties. That is NOT the issue in this mode.

I have fought people for over 10 years on these forums who called the game "scripted" at times. I was one of the ones arguing back ... for 10 years.

Well ... this Showdown mode feels ... scripted. Take the First Inning Showdown early moment you may get against the Rockies. Don't give up a HR in one inning on Rookie. Sounds insanely easy, huh? (I pitch on Hall of Fame in offline mode). I have lost it several times. The Rockies suddenly turn into amazing hitters ... on Rookie. I thought I was crazy ... until my son had the exact same reaction.

I give up on First Inning Showdown.

I focused on drafting lefty power.
I have drafted so many times, I have a very specific plan.

I won every moment through the second mini-boss.
I lost the last three moments.
I faced the Rockies pitcher as final boss (easiest of the three you can get; IMHO).

                  Tied 15-15.

After about 15 hours of failure, I give. It takes a miracle run. I'm not having fun anymore. It's just painful, horrible torture.

Had my first perfect Showdown tonight In the American League Showdown... , I have gone in with only one failed challenge twice, but never with a 15-15 score. Took 2 batters and 3 pitchers to win it with a 2 run homer, 17-15 with all 20 outs left.

That was a good moment. Be hard to do that again.

Nice job. I've done it with both Stage 2 Showdowns but done it more often in the NL one. The AL one has tougher blue missions from time to time I feel. But both are great to grind.

                          A Showdown Strategy Question:

Defense doesn't matter in several Showdown Moments, but you still have to play defense.

Do you replace your catcher with a better hitter? It's annoying to watch a non-catcher miss a bunch of pitches. I suppose it makes sense to play the best 8 hitters, and endure the annoyance of a terrible catcher, but.......

Only in the boss battles when defense obviously doesnt even exist. Or Ill pinch hit for them in other moments in specific situations that make sense. I dont wanna deal with the drops and all the time that adds to the game.

Yes, beat 2nd and 3rd inning after multiple attempts and having to work insanely hard to maximize my advantages. (subbing players for each moment, depending on circumstances, etc.)

I have by accident. Left Jay Bruce in one time after a mini boss and didn't realise it until a few passed balls later. His bat was so good I didn't want to take him out so I just rolled with it and it worked out fine the rest of the way.
