    Re: Showdown Thread

Gone back to 1st inning showdown and lost to first boss twice. Got past this time.

Its on rookie level...i own conquest games at vet... I can beat cpu on all star... But these showdowns are my nemesis

Then the occasional rookie game where you don't allow a homerun and the backup catcher hits one on rookie to lose the mission..

I've also found thst I can't hit with Helton and I keep picking him over and over

      Re: Showdown Thread

Back when I was obsessed with Showdowns (I may never do one again), I worked to maximize my advantage for every moment. Learned which pitchers I would face in them and set up R/L advantages, swapped players in and out for each moment based on the criteria for winning, drafted from the first draft with a mind towards beating the final boss, substituted pinch runners at key moments to get the slightest advantage, etc.

Still lost and felt I had wasted my time 95% of the time. If they don't revamp it, I may never come back. It's fun in theory; monumentally frustrating in practice.

The patch seems jacked up. I lost to Verlander then lost to Hendricks on the following attempt. My perfect/perfect hits barely reach the warning track a lot of times. And I had a 103 exit velo on a lazy pop up and also had a “rolled over” on a fly ball. Haha

Very strange experience in showdown post patch. I have completed over 70+ showdowns and had about a 95% success rate. I usually play the first 6 blue missions and the first mini boss and skip to the final unless I fail two or more blue missions then I will play the second showdown. Last night I was 2/4 and failed the first showdown once and final showdown once. In the past most of the time I wasn't even close to failing, like finishing a showdown with 10+ outs remaining. I think the increase in PCI and timing window caused me to to put more weak contact hits into play generating more outs.

This is what I was afraid of with the patch. Bigger PCI leading to more random and weak outcomes like last year. I don't feel the contact was rewarded correctly with the smaller PCI but it still led to better placement generally being more successful, just not as much as you'd like.

This just sounds like more foul tips, less strikeouts and more bloops and dunks.

              A Showdown Strategy Question:

Defense doesn't matter in several Showdown Moments, but you still have to play defense.

Do you replace your catcher with a better hitter? It's annoying to watch a non-catcher miss a bunch of pitches. I suppose it makes sense to play the best 8 hitters, and endure the annoyance of a terrible catcher, but.......

I just had to make this decision in the 3rd Inning SD. I had 63 Daulton Varsho catching in the MVP Chip Moment where you need 4 H with 2 XBHz. He's batting 8th, so I left him in thinking I may PH for him when he comes up in the 2nd. I decided to leave him in because that card always rakes for me, for some reason. Sure enough, he rips a perfect/perfect triple off the top of the wall. I hope my Golds were watching that AB!

I'm noticing a little bit of this, but I'm noticing more PCI placement/good timing not being rewarded. At. All. Everything is right at someone. I didn't play much online last year but I've heard all the MLB The Lineout 19 jokes; this feels like what that would've felt like.

Exact same thought I had when saw bigger pci.

Stage 1 showdown... Got all missions and I think was 9 of 15 runs going into 2nd boss (Kershaw) and didn't get a hit in 10 outs. I was late on everything and struck out 2 or 3 times which I rarely ever do.

I swear since this patch I've vlbeen late on everything

Winning run on 3rd, 2 outs left. Pop up to the catcher, runner on 3rd breaks for the plate, double play....no way this game mode isn’t nerfed. What baserunner would do that.

Put at least 20 hours in the mode, before I gave up.

SDS has done some fiddling behind the scenes on these. Think All Star when you play on Veteran and think Hall of Fame when you play on All Star.

And for the final bosses, you have to have The Patience Of A Saint. Work the count like mad.

I think I'm gonna give up too.

Its a miracle I beat 2nd inning and 2nd stage al.... I haven't even been close in the others.

I practiced on legend for like 30 mins tonight.... I'm doing these vet showdowns and I'm still late on everything

So it can be done! Had a decent draft on the NL Central Showdown of Larkin, Castellanos, and Braun so said F it and went into Hader down 15-0. I won! Still had 6 outs left too. I know a lot of others have accomplished this before but it's my first time so I am pretty excited about it. Got the Reds to 70 points now the only team left is the Brewers in either Central division.

I just had a weird glitch that was actually in my favor!

NL East SD, Reds Rockin Rotation Moment. Tally 3 hits, 2 runs, 1 XBH in the first 3 innings. I thought I only had 9 outs. Didn't get it done in first 3 innings, but it goes to extras. I went up by 3 in the top of the 4th, so I had to allow the Reds to tie me in the bottom of the inning. I screwed up and allowed them to score 4. But it still went to the 5th, where I get the XBH I needed and won the Moment. Weird.

Did they dumb down the stage 1 showdowns?

Haven't attempted one in a couple weeks until last night decided to give the AL East a go. The CPU had several blunders on double play balls and every ball the dove for in the outfield got away. I wasn't using any of the perks that cause more errors either.

Not complaining I'll absolutely take it as someone whose struggled with stage 1.
