This is great news. Maybe I’ll actually try showdowns again. I’ve yet to complete any TA season, mostly because all I’ve been doing are the moments and PXP missions for individual cards. I’m at 100% on the AL East for TA1 and 2, but that’s it.

Meanwhile, I’m pretty excited about getting the base round of the Draft players with my 10k pack. My Red Sox Theme Team finally has a catcher! Even the relatively uninspiring Kike-Chang MIF was awesome by comparison to the live catcher options before now.

Now I just need to get home from my work trip and actually play some! I already caved in and bought a 50-pack bundle just to have something engage with in the airport, and one can only flip cards for so long without actually playing any!

I'm Def liking set 3. I didn't notice I disliked set 2 but I did get somewhat disengaged. Now I'm feeling like I can't play enough and I've been doing pretty much 100% offline.

I'm doing team affinity pxp and finishing off conquest maps and it's not bad. The all star program looks good and having the free 99 of your choice at the end makes it worth the grind plus should keep prices on the market from getting crazy. I have no idea how people have already p5'd Adley when I'm chugging away pretty steady and haven't even gotten to the 2nd set 3 boss (hilton¿) and I haven't got to the first program boss pack yet.

I feel like I have tons to do but for whatever reason I don't feel overwhelmed or rushed. I'm glad the event lasts for a while so I have time to earn the cards to use specifically in the event.

Often they drop a program and you got like 5-7 days to do the program then try to get they 20 wins in the event while also doing Topps now or whatever else....this seems paced better for me at least.

Also excited to use Carroll, Jackie, Donaldson, I like all 3 program bosses, like all the ranked rewards, can't remember br rewards but I know they're good too. Overall very motivated to grind for **** this time around

I was hoping SDS would up the quality of programs/rewards for S3 to replace our S1 lost cards, and it looks like that’s the plan. I wouldn’t be surprised if we get another less-engaging S4 set of cards/programs ahead of another solid S5 offering. It’s like the odd seasons are the featured content to be enjoyed for two seasons, while the even seasons are more to keep the hardcore folks busy and supplement the odd season content.

Re: What Are You Working On? - MLB The Show 23 Edition

One thing I’ve been working on is trying to derive some tiny value from the growing horde of worthless common/bronze cards that I’ve gradually compiled. Specifically the doubles, since my inner completionist is fine with having one of each of even the garbage cards. I’ve already completed the live collection.

I don’t know if this is optimal or not (and am interested if anyone has feedback on this), but this is what I’ve started doing recently to get something out of the doubles:

          - EXCHANGE common FA doubles for single bronze cards
          - REPEAT above for Bronze and Silver (after opening the lower packs, obviously)
          - TA EXCHANGE doubles of Common, Bronze, Silver, and low Gold cards within each division to get TA XP credit. I leave high golds alone in case they go diamond in the near future, at which point I’d rather quick sell those doubles for stubs anyway

I know the TA EXCHANGE ratios are very weak, but I literally cannot think of any other useful thing to do with all these doubles. I’m not buying and holding piles of Silver/Gold players intentionally, I’m just gradually building up doubles from opening packs anyway. My rationale is that since I’m never coming close to completing TA each season, so even these small bits of progress can help unlock the first/next few rewards in those programs to help build up my set collections and let me work on some of the TA PXP missions when I’m not doing other programs. I’m also flipping enough diamond cards of various kinds that stubs are not a pressing need. I gradually buy up more cards that I want whenever I get over 400k stubs.

If there’s something better to do with all these doubles, I’m open to suggestions. Quick selling 95 billion times just seems unsatisfying to me, and I can’t think of anything else to do with them.

i pretty much sell every single card I open on the pack opening screen. They made it easier this year where you can see their sell now/buy now price and then place your sell order directly from that screen. Most are well above quick sell but some aren't and I just quick sell those.

So I pretty much keep a clean inventory and sell EVERYTHIGN for stubs every time I get it. Even for TA the exchanges are a huge ripoff IMO where in the past there seemed to be a benefit to doing them.

BR is kind of a nightmare right now. They released more great 2-way pitchers and everyone is doing the glitch where you put them in after 3 batters for full stamina (as if it was a 9 inning game). They don’t lose stamina between games so they’re doing it every game. Did feel pretty good when I made a guy using Dihigo rage quit after hitting a grand slam and another homer off him. They need to fix this fast.

Still don’t know who I’m going to pick with the guaranteed rare round pack from the all-star program. I think Crews since they fixed his swing but maybe Skenes. Or Vlad. I’m actually raking with Vlad in BR right now but 1B isn’t an exciting pick.

Just got Olsen, and really want Ramirez and Corbin. I've been doing Mini Season on rookie with all of the TA players - pretty fast ascent to 70 cards, but those next 20 are going to be a bear.

I also picked the best time to get my last 4 gatekeepers, right before the stub sale. Trout was 58K stubs! I got him, Ohtani, DeGrom and Judge and the slog is over.

Seeing the hype and excitement has me a bit jealous. I've been so busy with work the last month+ that I haven't been able to play at all. Jumping in after not playing for a bit and seeing where things are almost feels daunting but I should have a chance to actually play some this week.

For those that have been playing: what are your recommendations on what to tackle first?

I saw Olson and Acuna got 99's that I absolutely want a piece of and like the idea of grinding toward those first.

Prob the all star program. You get a good amount of cards and a choice pack for 99 at the end for free. Not sure whether I'll take vlad, crews, or skenes. I really like crews swing in the moments it's short and compact feeling like trout

I haven't even touched online for a week trying to get caught up on the offline stuff

I got like 230k stubs and so many of these ws, br, elly type cards I want but won't be able to afford them all. I have Corbin Carroll in my fantasy league too so would like to give him a shot once I earn him

Always good with Soto but bad defense and I have chipper at dh so prob not worth the stubs

May actually start buying cards so I can get Adley/acuna quicker

Agree with doing the AS program first. Unless you have an insane number of stubs, though, just resign yourself to buying Elly during S4. Over 500k stubs is just insane for any one card.

Yeah I don't feel about about mantle because he's held his value and I have him p4 so I've gotten my use.

Mauer I think I bought for 275k or something and he was down over 100k by the time I used him... And even know I'd rather have Adley than Mauer so that was a bad buy

I pulled the as tucker from like a guaranteed duos pack....dint even know where I got the paid but I sold him for about 35k so that's good cause I haven't gotten anything special from all this grinding.

                        I'll prob buy Paige

Cruz would be good but I have Jeter, Wright, chipper at ss/3b/dh...hed prob replace Polanco for me at 2nd but Polanco is usually my best card and not sure if I'll like Cruz being 6'5 or not anyway

I pulled like 5 diamonds out of 15 packs this morning.

Finished all star program and took crews to replace soriano in rf and put soriano on the bench in place of Franco.

With Carroll and acuna out there not sure if I'll ever even use crews but I want to

I see no point in messing with the event now and I will do br but got like 30 days left and awards aren't out of this world. I'd prob take rube foster hit his h9 and pitching clutch are kind've underwhelming.

I want the ranked rewards but don't wanna play ranked that hard... Need to do the math to see how many innings I would have to play coop to get the pack

Decided I'll run a mini season to try to knock out team affinity because that's best way to get acuna Carroll Adley and Co

Finished the BR program. Smoothest/fastest it’s ever been. I luckily only ran into the 2-way glitch once, but I’m sure if I would have gotten more than 4-5 wins a run it would have been constant. I have no idea who I’m taking with the choice pack, which is another reason why I hate that it’s no-sell. I thought I wanted Hank, but Bo seems to be the popular choice. I’ve not been able to use any of the options so I’m stuck with whoever I pick.

im in the same boat im like 20 points away from finishing it and i have no idea who i want. I thought Bo at first but i just got Jackie and once i get Jram hell be my 2B and have Wright or Arenado at 3rd ( i know hes a 97 but i am soo good with his cards) I thought about Hank but once i get Acuna and Carroll idk if id use him over Aaron and then i heard that Rube gets kinda hit hard so far so im not sure either ...

It seems clear that SDS is releasing so many viable players at the same position that you can just take whoever you want. No need to fixate on the meta players, or the popular choice. If you want Hank, take Hank. If you want Bo, take Bo. Just do what you want and fill the rest in with the dozen-or-so other viable options that you online studs have access to with a reasonable amount of grinding.
