I watched a lot of streaming last night. You aren't kidding about people complaining. I watched several different streamers and guys would complain about there timing being off and not getting perfect perfect....as they were spraying singles and doubles everywhere. Guess its HR or you suck when it comes to online lol.

I've done my fair share of complaining over the years but for me it was when things didn't make sense. They really cleaned up a ton of the issues with hitting so outcomes make much more sense this year.

Like, you can perfectly square up the ball and be late and hit a missile to the opposite field reliably. That makes sense. But people see the "late" marker and assume it's lack of skill when you can absolutely do it on purpose to great effect.

I greatly disliked 22, liked 21, hated 20 and learned with 19. 23, to me, has been an exceptional game so far.

It's because the display completely conveys the wrong messaging. It isn't the input that matters, it's the outcome. A base hit is a base hit. While I can appreciate its utility as a diagnostic tool and training aid in practice sessions, I personally think it sets inappropriate expectations when used in games. I'm like you, there is something utterly satisfying about intentionally going oppo field to beat the shift (or even to just advance the runner).

I think SDS could stand to do a fun training mode (a la MVP 05's rather addictive mode that had all the ramps and stuff) that can teach players the value of different swing timings (it could be a modification for CotW - which currently is only about taking bad pitches and smashing HRs). It would reinforce a messaging that "perfect" swings are not always the preferred approach. I think the game, as a whole, needs to do a better job of teaching the sport.

Agreed!! 23 isn't perfect but it's a massive improvement from the last few years. The hitting makes more sense, defense actually seems to matter especially in the outfield, the new throwing mechanics have certainly makes tough plays feel like tough plays and I've had my fair share of errors but when I make an error I understand why. The grind is still a bit overwhelming and quite a grind but I'm thoroughly enjoying this year's game. I think I've got more hours in 23 already than I put in 22. Lol

I agree that the generic timing labels cause problems. Idk what the solution would be but I think it would alleviate a lot of the complaints if they streamlined the feedback timing.

I love the new feedback UI and information overall, though.

Got enough stubs to buy judge so now I've got all the big money guys locked in but down to like 150 stubs.

Still need to do red Sox, jays, white Sox, twins, and royals. I think that's it before I get Jeter then I can just save stubs for players I want to use which is cool.

Started another ta miniseasons to finish up TA hopefully. Im still below 70% for central but close to done in the other 4.

Im grinding like crazy on everything.. I'm enjoying it but I feel like I still have the chance to experience all the modes. Feel like I was grinding like crazy last two years and just wasn't enough time to play all the modes.

I also am Def a fan of the 99s day one. I'm using more or less the same lineup from week 1. Wbc trout, mcneil, devers, Mullins, ward, Pena, etc. I've since added jazz and Sosa to the lineup but I'm able to actually use these guys for a whole before they become irrelevant.

Last few years you grind to get a fancy card and by the time you get it they announce a even better card for the same position... I was constantly just chasing. Now I get to use my main guys I like across different modes

I agree as well. I lost interest early last year and came back a couple of times but my biggest gripe was it felt like input didn’t matter. It just made it less fun for me.

This year with the hitting changes and fielding changes I’m having fun, despite increased grinding.

I am even really enjoying ranked this year. I know there is a lot of complaining out there, and I do know there are some issues with pinpoint, but I hope they don’t go too far with any fix. Not having every game 1-0 has been fun.

They just need to tune pinpoint to not have every perfect release land in the outer portion of the PAR. I like that the ball isn't going directly to the pixel but it's a little too egregious at the moment.

A tuning there where it's slightly improved and the gameplay will be as tight as ever.

Maybe the answer is simple...remove the labels altogether. You have a meter that displays where your timing was...get rid of the whole perfect/perfect thing (not the functionality - but labeling it as such).

                      1. Make sure your TV is on "game mode". This is important for any console, but on a last gen console (please tell me you're on a PS4 Pro at least - I couldn't imagine the performance on an original PS4), you will desperately need it for hitting. Also, the in-game settings should have some sort of performance setting under the video options; make sure you're on the performance setting. Frame rates are vital for this game because milliseconds really matter for hit timing.

                      2. When you're a newbie, the content will feel fast and furious. Set your own plan. Don't haphazardly do stuff. Use conquest maps to complete missions when you have the cards to do so. A notepad/spreadsheet to jot down missions you are working on can be useful.

                      3. The Negro league cards are great; but bear in mind that if you're trying to work on Team Affinity, those cards will not accrue mission stats for any of the divisions.

                      Appreciate the input.

On #1, I tried bringing an extra chair into the room to sit 50% closer to the TV, and it made a real impact. I’ll have to check if it has a “game mode”, as the thing is from 2006 and still hanging in there!

I’m keeping both #2 and #3 in mind. I just completed the WBC Showdown and moments today. I’m now shifting away from the Free Agent WBC players to those who earn Team Affinity credit. Still keeping Buck, Jackie, and Thompson in the lineup, and Dihigo on the bench because they are awesome and I want to maximize my odds of winning games. Dihigo as a full stamina relief option is quite handy for the 3-inning games, I’ve noticed.

If the TV location/setting changes help enough, maybe I’ll wean myself off the NR players and Buck’s captain bonus to concentrate on the team affinity…but maybe not until I have another captain boost worth noticing to switch over to.

I'm trying to beat the WBC Showdown but I can't. Twice I've made it to the final boss only to lose. I hit liner after liner after liner right at people or all I can muster is infield pop ups. First time I played it I only scored 3 runs and lost 14-13. The second time I tied it at 14 but it doesn't count cause you got to win the game. I'm just so frustrated with it cause they make you start all over if you don't beat it and I don't know what more I could have done to make all those liners I hit not get caught.

I really don't want to drop another $200 on an Elite controller. I've had this one for 2.5-3 years and I'm not sure if I'm into the idea of paying that again knowing that it'll crap out in a couple years. Then again, maybe that's a good timeframe for controllers like this - I don't know.
I’m not sure if you know this or not, but they have an Elite core option to buy that’s just the controller without the charger/accessories. I’m not sure what the official price is, but I got one on sale for $110 a couple weeks ago when my Series 2 that I got when it first came out started not registering LB presses.

I saw the core but with it not coming with the additional thumbsticks I didn't know if I'd like it. I kinda forgot I had a series 1 elite downstairs that I used for a game last night. It's not as tight as the s2 but almost felt better.

Just sucks that all the s2 adjustment sticks don't fit on the s1.
