I’m so busy trying to grind with my available gaming time that I’m not willing to invest the time to practice at other modes to be able to grind faster/better in the future. Throw in the different levels some modes restrict you to (Veteran for moments/Showdowns), and it’s tricky to figure out the best way forward.

Imo conquest on all star or anything is such a mixed bag.

I played two games last night and one game I beat the computer 2-0 and I had 3 perfects and 12 good contacts. I had 2 hits for my 2 runs. 3 perfects and 12 goods should net me more than 2 hits.

I feel like online play is more generous than offline in that regard. Altho I do have the occasional 15 runs against the cpu.

It can Def be frustrating if your slumping. I always check the batter analysis after every game to see how I was actually hitting vs the result.

Guys, check all your common cards. They are showing up as golds instead and can quick sell for 1k. My buddy made 120k this morning doing this. If in need of stubs, take a look.

Specifically the free agent section. I saw a couple in the team collections but there was quite a bit of commons with gold shields in the free agent section in the inventory.

Re: What Are You Working On? - MLB The Show 23 Edition

I see people complaining on Fb with the Topps now update that the grind is a bit much this year.

Maybe I played more in set 1 then with set 2 but I'm definetly feeling a bit behind. I haven't done the Topps now pxp from last week but did do the moments. I have the team built but was using team affinity stuff towards the ingontio conquest

I'm like 7 games into a team affinity mini season but there is a limit on cards you can use I believe and wish I could just export my regular roster into team affinity if I'd like

I'm halfway thru BR. I think I'm like 15 event wins. Still need to do half incognito moments and the showdown plus pxp with those players.now a new Topps now tomorrow plus whatever gehrig day is.

I still need to do Mexican player series pxp to get seager but I think I may be able to get seager thru finishing this br run... But I can't get the Mexican players in my lineups because of all the team affinity players I gotta get in my lineups!

My complaint in years past is kindve I don't get to ever use my main squad bc you gotta do all this Topps now type stuff to "keep up"... Incognito program are all garbage cards but need them for randy so Idk.

Idk if they ever find a balance here. I feel like I play alot and I don't suck, I don't run out of things to do I guess but there is just no avenue where I will use randy Johnson once I get him. Maybe in a future event to try to get my 15 wins or whatever but next week is the monthky program and there just no scenario where I go in ranked anytime soon to use these cards.

Like Matt Chapman I thought was a solid card, I maybe used him in one event hit haven't had a point to use him since. Maybe the sds intent is to keep users swapping out cards weekly?

The fact that the only real change to ranked has been the advent of the program speaks volumes. With all the content they pump out, they could easily add a salary cap mode, weekend league style programs and a more competitive mode for hardcore online players and flesh out the options so much more.

I think the game is really good this year but it's the same issue as always. The offline grinds for new cards are so repetitive that it just feels like a waste of time. With sets and seasons, the longer it takes you to finish the big collections the less time you actually have to use the cards. I love sets and seasons and want it to remain in the game but ultimately there's a huge "feels bad" element for people that get those cards later in the cycle only to have minimal use with them.

They excel at content. Gameplay was improved this year. They need to focus on fleshing out the actual gameplay options now. Look at a game like 2k. There's so many different ways to play that game even offline that you can change up what you're doing and keep it relatively fresh

In the show, you're grinding conquest all year which makes me want to put my head through a window. Showdown is the same. All the programs have the same components so even when there's new cards the entire process is exactly the same. BR is BR and doesn't even utilize your team. You can't use your team to grind the monthly stuff, Topps now and basically can't use them in the other program grinds. You use all the cards that go into those sets, only to most likely never use them again.

It's beyond time for a big change with offline and online play options.

It does seem like there’s a ton to grind this year and I’m never using my actual best team (mostly because I don’t play ranked). What’s really lacking this year is events. They seem to have put zero effort into it and haven’t released a single competitive or desirable reward in events all year.

I used to play events for pxp, to warm up for BR, or just for fun but I’m struggling to get the motivation to even get the rewind pack. I’m mostly grinding BR when it drops, then catching up on offline grinding until BR resets. I’m trying to get all the packs this BR program mostly because there’s nothing else I’d rather play.

I think an "Unlimited" mode or something like that would be fun.

Like using magic the gathering formats as an example:

Ranked could be like standard. Sets rotating in and out that are legal

Unlimited could be more like modern where pretty much every card released is legal and would allow folks to use cards all year in a competitive setting

They should completely revamp ranked now as it is and this would give them a chance to really change things up and give more options.

They could even use the unlimited setting to freshen up offline grinds as cards are no longer season eligible.

I 100% agree with this (this would be an excellent article topic ).

Speaking from an offline-only perspective, I think there are a few main issues:

                    Moments and Showdowns
Moments and Showdown are nothing more than time-wasters for grinding. I can see some limited utility of Moments if you really want to try and replicate historical moments. But to use it as a key source of program progress is dubious. You don't use your team in Moments, so you can't grind for anything else in parallel. Pretty much every program now is the same...spend an hour or two grinding moments to barely earn enough cards to begin grinding missions. The MLBTS18 DD model was a lot better - you did a couple of small things to earn the card, then you did in-game missions with the card (which was great because you were using your squad, so even if you failed at a mission that game, you were still earning progress in other areas).

Showdowns are another time-suck - even moreso than moments. A person can spend hour after hour trying to get through a showdown only to be unsuccessful. All the while, they are earning zero progress towards anything else. That isn't content, that's wasting your players' time and it leaves a really bad taste in people's mouths. Even if you're successful during the first pass-through in a Showdown, that's still an hour or so wasted where you accrued nothing else.

If you're spending a huge amount of time in these modes, you're not using the cards you collected. That defeats the whole point of a card collecting mode.

                    PXP
First of all, I LOVE PXP as a means of leveling up a card. I also don't mind the use of PXP as a side mission when used for aggregate squads (like TA missions). But single player PXP missions are outright (and I rarely use this term) lazy. I appreciate the idea of using PXP because if a person sucks with a card, they can eventually complete a mission. But when the majority of real content is based around dozens upon dozens of individual player PXP missions, you've turned it into a mindless slog. Stat missions (both single-game and multi-game) are significantly more enjoyable - you actually have to accomplish something to succeed vs mind-numbingly accruing PXP.

Providing one path to program completion
This is the most easily solvable issue right now. Simply double the program progress rewards for each task. Essentially, you're allowing people more options to complete a program. Maybe you knock out a Showdown and get big progress, so you can avoid doing the moments or some of the PXP missions. The way the programs are structured now, you have to do everything, so you wind up with a highly repetitive gameplay loop. Acknowledging that most programs now have a repeatable PXP mission; but that basically is only something you might want to do if you're really struggling on a particular moment and it's not a viable alternative to make significant progress in a program.

Mission content greatly outweighs the playable content.
We've all been there. All conquest maps done; all mini seasons done...and scads of progress still left to go for in-game missions. So, yep, you're stuck repeating the same content over and over. Others may disagree, but I call that poor design planning.

                    There's no 9 inning content
Baseball is a 9 inning game, not 3 innings. While 3 inning games are fine and dandy for conquest, there is a total lack of 9 inning game content. Real games have a much better flow to them. You actually get to use your SPs properly, you're not constantly dealing with the randomness that comes from always facing tiring pitchers, and games don't constantly boil down to a single pitch from dictating the end-result. Adding an option for 9 inning conquests and mini-seasons (with a x3 multiplier for MS stat mission requirements) would be quite welcome as a change of pace. Inclusion of proper 9 inning games would also open-up a few other mission types (like shutouts, CGs, etc.).

All these cards - but we rarely face them
Another flaw in offline content is that the primary CPU opponent in main modes is the Live Series cards. Expansion of CPU opponents to include all cards from a team's collection (including captains) would allow for Conquest (and play vs CPU) content to seamlessly scale as user teams improve. Mini seasons are fine for what they are, but it's quite limited (and the traditional mini seasons are nothing more than sticking the user up against poorly built meta squads).

                    No long-term grind
Collections are fine and dandy but are not a good reason to grind as you're still forced to buy cards. Having long duration missions that are fully gameplay-driven to work on all year would be welcome.

I'll stop there....but that's just a few areas where I think they can improve.

Unlocked seager but don't I'll use him since I'm hitting week with Utley now, his card is better and has quirks

At like 90 points in br so once I'm done with that will take Verlander and prob grind out all the tedious offline stuff after that

Close to P5 with Jeter and Sosa

Still haven't opened my 2nd set 1 collection pack but will prob take Pedro since there are plenty of 1b options now plus gehrig today

Altho, gehrig a 97? Why no 99, gehrig didn't get a good card last year and I think the year before that was a ws reward

there is already a 99 Gehrig Charisma card.

I'm aware but for gehrig that 99 WS card is also pretty underwhelming and the fact that last year he didn't really get a good card

it's like jansen gets prob his best 99 ever this year, last years 99 milestone pujols was on paper very good, this 99 kimbrel is by far his best card with sinker/slider

seems like it's been a few years since there was a standout gehrig card and that was a WS reward a few years back...

Finished the Charisma series. I'm liking that they made some missions repeatable, it beats playing Showdown imo.

I think I'm just going to start playing TA conquest games. I been missing my WBC roster.

Just a terrible morning of BR, today.

My PS5 has been overheating and shutting down, which it did twice today. Once after enduring the worst form of bunt cheese in a 2-1 game that I was winning. Another, up 1, with 1 out to go.

I get that baseball is a game of failure. But today was just cruel. All for a Verlander card I can't sell ...

verlander should net you some easy ranked wins at least. i'll get verlander tomorrow...I'm at 90 points. May try a ranked game or two if I'm hitting well at the end of my BR run

Think i'll take pedro from set 1 pack and then use verlander....so I'll at least be able to start with those two.

My degrom has got murdered in events so I don't believe in him for ranked. I've only seen nolan ryan once so far this year and it was BR...I hit him pretty well and I always get murdered by him so maybe he's not as nasty this year as normal
