Re: MLB 09: The Show - Impressions
the only problem is, it does throw you for a little bit. So it takes about 4 or 5 games to get the timing down after adjusting the slider. . But for me the hit variety is better, as I am not way behind every pitch now.Comment

Re: MLB 09: The Show - Impressions
Just checking in. This is my 6th year with the franchise and it just continues to get better. I am playing on Veteran on default sliders. The pitches come in slower this year so I have tended to be early on a lot of pitches. The new batting practice is a great tool to get used to the speed. I tried all of the camera angles for batting but still feel wide is the best way to go. I did play a game with A's the other day and had 4 walks against Hernandez of the Mariners so if your patient you can draw walks. I still find the Quick play option games to be a little bit too long(50-55 mins) but not sure if there is any way SCEA can do it any faster.Last edited by Eton Rifles; 03-07-2009, 05:10 PM.follow me on twitter: www.twitter.com/eton_riflesComment

Re: MLB 09: The Show - Impressions
Man, I actually raised pitch speed to the max. But I only did this once I started recognizing pitches better and wasn't striking out 10 times in 4 innings like in the demo.
I'm still deciding if I like the additional speed. But, I do feel like I'm actually late on fastballs now. I was always early before.
Also, I like that I have significantly less time to decide if a 95+ mph fastball is a ball or a strike.Last edited by CMH; 03-07-2009, 05:09 PM."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. Man, I can't even imagine maxing out the pitch speed. That seems utterly insane to me. I think I may try it just to watch the ensuing hilarity.Comment

Re: MLB 09: The Show - Impressions
It's even a problem in real baseball. I go with a 34 inch bat only because I need the extra length and the added weight slows down my bat speed. I see the ball, it's right there, and I swing. A lot of the time I'm early, even when a guy is throwing darts at the plate. Guh, last season I used a 32 for the first time in years, thinking the extra bat speed would be good - just be patient I told myself - and instead I had a horrible year at the plate. Back to 34."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. Re: MLB 09: The Show - Impressions
I do have a complaint. What is the point of batting practice in RTTS? I mean I just had a session where 10 of the 20 pitches were way out of the strike zone. Doesn't that defeat the purpose? Half of the pitches I see are unhittable. Annoys me a little bit.Moderator

LOL, yeah that is actually exactly what I was going for (saw the movie a few days ago for the eleventy billionth time-such an underrated little gem). I didn't think anyone would get it, though, so I deleted it.Comment

Re: MLB 09: The Show - Impressions
Perhaps it's done that way to teach you to lay off swinging at every pitch when in the game? A lot of guys complain about swinging at everything when playing a game. Perhaps it's set up this way for that purpose.Comment

Re: MLB 09: The Show - Impressions
The batting practice mode is clearly different from MLB batting practice. Before a game, guys just tee off on 65 mph balls fed down the heart of the plate. In the Show, it's used as a teaching tool which means they throw hard and throw both strikes and balls. I do like that you can choose the pitch types but maybe next year they can have options for "All Strike BP" vs. "Baseball Simulator BP".Comment

Re: MLB 09: The Show - Impressions
I agree Motown. I've got problem with them throwing the occasional pitch or two out of the zone, but damn, not every 4 out of 5. lol
I may not have learned how to hit in BP, but I learned how to take a walk..lolI can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
