Is anyone having success getting 20 win seasons with a pitcher? So far the most I've gotten is 12.

Created a new RTTS pitcher yesterday, my first attempt with a SP (so far had a 1B, SS, and 3B). I was drafted by the Astros, and just sim'd the spring. I was brought into AA Corpus Christi as a middle reliever. My starting 3 pitches were a 4 seamer, Cutter, and Curveball, using John Lackey's pitching animation. After about 30 innings of relief i was 2-0 with 0.64 ERA and a WHIP of 0.88, 28 hits and 19 K. After this I asked the coach to be in the rotation, which he agreed to. First 3 starts were complete game shut outs, after which I threw 8 innings with 9 K and 6 hits and won 6-4. Next 3 starts were all no decisions because my team is absolutely HORRIBLE! Hoping to move up to AAA soon. My 4 seamer is at 99 MPH right now, and the cutter breaks like nobody's business. I'll update as I progress!

So after going 13-1 with a 1.21 ERA in AA, Wandy Rodriguez got injured for the Astros and I was called up to AAA to fill a roster spot as a reliever. First appearance I go in the top of 9th, 1 out, bases loaded and strike out both guys I face. I also made the AA All-Star team as the #1 starter which was nice. Hopefully I can make an impression in AAA and get a starting spot

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread

My Blue Jays shortstop finally got traded! I'm the the 2012 season, in my 1st full year as a MLB starter. The Jays are in dead last and have been every year since 2009. Also both thier AA and AAA teams finished last in thier divisions the years I played on them. Tired of the futility I asked for a trade in mid June and for some reason they obliged, traded me to the Orioles! Not bad, they are doing pretty well keeping up with the Yanks and BoSox about 3 games out of 1st, and have Ichiro somehow. I joined them on the road, interleague play. My first game was against SD. They are a powerhouse in 2012 I guess. I went 3-3 with a walk but we lost. They went on to sweep us for 3 games. We then took 2 of 3 from Atlanta and then played the Mets at home in Bmore. The Mets are the only team in baseball thats more dominating than the Padres, but I was excited to show the home crowd what I could do. 2nd inning, we're down 3-2 and i doubled home 2 runs to ties it up. It skips fwd to my next at bat in the 5th and we're down 9-3! With 1 on I crush the 1st pitch down the leftfield line for a no doubter. 9-5. Next at bat in the 7th, first pitch and bam! Way back, out to centerfield, 9-7. Next at bat I come up in the bottom 9th and of course it's bases loaded
with 2 outs, score still 9-6. I represent the winning run. I know, i KNOW i shouldn't swing at the first pitch. I take my finger off the button as the pitcher winds up. It comes straight down the middle and I can't lay off. Hitting lefty, I scorch it right down the line but the 1st basemen stick his hand out and the ball shoots right in. The Mets win the game and sweep us at home. Barf. The O's since I joined have skidded, losing 8 of the last 11 and falling to 6 or 7 games back. I think we'll pick it back up tho. I'm playing well and we have good pitching. 2 weeks before the all star break I just passed Joe Mauer (who plays for Boston now) to lead the leugue with a .359 BA. I'm hooping to make the All Star starting SS since Jeter retired after 2010.

At what point do your skills begin to diminish? Right now I'm 23 years old and I have almost all of my pitches and every other category dealing with pitching at a 99. I am going to start putting training points into hitting eventually, even though I play in the American League. I"m just curious if anyone has reached a point where their attributes start to go down. I'd like to have a career where I reach my 40's. I guess 45 is the oldest you can be. I want to at least attempt to win 300 games and I'd like to break the all-time strikeout record, even though I don't know if that one is possible. So far I have 585 strikeouts in my career. A long cry from Ryan's record, I know.

You've maxed out your players attributes? Strikeouts, stamina, everything?
Is that done purposely, or is there something in the RTTS that allows for that?
585 strikeouts in how many seasons, how many innings pitched? Just curious.

And if ur a SP why do u get put in the bullpen??

In RTTS you get training points for achieving certain goals during a game and over the course of a set number of series. You can use these training points to increase your players' attributes. Your player starts off well below average, but I've managed to get him rated almost as high as possible fairly quickly. I am playing on All-Star with PsychoBulk's sliders, so I am not just playing on rookie. Anyway here's my pitcher's attributes and stats.

I am currently in year 6. This is my 4th season in the Major Leagues.
                      stamina: 98
                      clutch pitching: 83
                      H/9: 99
                      HR/9: 78
                      K/9: 95

I throw 5 pitches. A 4-seam fastball, a 2-seam fastball, a slider, a change up and a splitter. All three categories (velocity, control, and break) are 99 except for change up velocity. That is currently at 95. I also have a 0 in movement for my 4-seam fastball as I do not think that would require, nor would I want movement on that pitch.

As far as my stats go, here's what I've compiled in a little over 3 seasons.

I am 37-25 with a career 2.61 ERA. I've given up 570 hits in 665.2 innings pitched. I've walked 160 batters and struck out 601. I am well off pace to break Nolan Ryan's strikeout record but you never know. The one thing that will probably get me is the fact that I only get 33 starts per year since the CPU won't bump you up in a slot with a day off. If I am correct, didn't Nolan Ryan pitch in an era with a 4-man rotation? I'm going to look up how many starts he got from year-to-year during his career.

You get promoted based almost solely on your achievement goals. Make sure you meet a majority of them. If you do not achieve your goals you will never be promoted. You could have a 99 rated player in AA forever if you do not meet your goals. In that case at least you would be the greatest player in minor league history.

Just checked Ryan's stats. Early in his career he regularly got more that 33 starts. The most starts he had during a season was 41. A couple more seasons of 39 and other high 30's. There's no way that a pitcher in RTTS can get as many starts as Ryan did in his career, making it nearly impossible to break the all-time strikeout record. One of the main things I hope they fix in MLB 10 is the CPU's management of you and your team in RTTS (especially in the playoffs). With day's off the manager should bump your spot up. In the playoffs you should be used more than normal.

Here's a major tip that I wish I knew when I started. Don't get frustrated. Your player will not be very good at the beginning. Especially in Spring Training. You will have very low ratings playing against major leaguers. However, it gets better and it is very rewarding when you pitch a good game. I've pitched about 5 complete game shutouts in my big league career and they are very gratifying. I had one going tonight against Kansas City but lost it in the bottom of the ninth with two outs. Yikes.

Anyway make sure you have good combination pitches. Obviously a fastball but have a good offspeed pitches. One of my best strikeout pitches is my straight change. Go high with a fastball and follow it up with a change. Keep the hitters off balance.
