I would say another hard pitch. Splitter, Fork, Cutter. Something that will look like a fastball but has movement. Either in or down to help you change the eye level of the hitter while looking like your 4 seamer.

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread

Well. Just reached the AA All-Star break in season 1. Batting .336 (thank goodness I DESTROY righties, because against LHP I'm batting .195 ) with 11HR, 46 RBI, 1 steal, 16 doubles, 1 Triple, 49 runs, 38 walks and 27 strikeouts. Pretty good season thus far. Made the All-Star team as a backup and went 1-1 in the game. Really needed the points boost from making the team...lol.

Going good so far. Have met most of my goals (really all of them except for raising my bunting ability as I don't care about this aspect of my game...lol).

      Some thoughts:

-Still having issues with this weird "locking" of my 1B on some plays. It seems like at least a few times a game my guy will lock up until the ball is thrown to him and caught. then it's a footrace to the bag...very odd.

-Also, I see they haven't addressed some of the issues in the mode that have been in for a few years. It feels like they have you on a set path to make it to the majors. Minus injuries giving you an opportunity, it seems like it's AA bench, AA starter for year one.

No promotion's based on performance at all which is one of the things I feel hold this mode back (I mean, I'm killing the guy ahead of me in AAA statistically and he's only barely rated better than me, so it would seem performance can only hold you back, but not help you much...kinda frustrating).

-Still see way too many guys in the minors with a 94-96MPH $-seamer AND a 65-68MPH Knuckler. This has always annoyed me. There should not be so many guys with a knuckleball in the 1st place, but all those guys coupling it with a blazing FB too make it killer. I guess it adds to the challenge, but it's one of the more unrealistic aspects IMO.

-Baserunning. Maybe it's because I started the mode later, read the many complaints already, and got a chance to read Russell's passed on info about the controls...but I actually like the baserunning overall. There are a few rough spots during certain camera switches, but it's pretty smooth overall IMO.

Maybe people's issues come with SB's? I've only attempted two (technically...one was my first time on the basepaths and I didn't know I had to be 100% manual. I got picked...lol) so I might be missing the issues there, perhaps.

Overall, still a fun mode but not all that different where it matters most, IMO. Haven't played enough to run into the "crash and burn" but hopefully this can tide me over until Knight's rosters as once I start my franchise, that's all I'll play anyway.

I think yes and no on this. I only pitched in 17 games at the AA level before going to AAA. I know that "Rick Vaughn" is still in AA in his 2nd year. I spent the entire season at AAA with out a call-up despite hitting about 85-90% of my advancement goals. I think it has more to do with the depth ahead of you. (At least I would like to think that) If you are a 3B for the Yankees there is no way that you should get a MLB call-up without injury. But I really don't know one way or the other.

I agree RTTS stills feels a little scripted.

In my 2nd year of RTTS in Scranton and I am backing up Gardner. I crush him in l/r contact, power, fielding and ovr. Still on bench. Haven't had enough games started to compare with him in stats. Oh well.

I agree that they still don't put enough emphasis on stats and too much on ovr. If I was managing and this rookie was hitting .478 in spring training, I'd at least try him out in AAA as a starter or MLB bench. I'm also catching up to Melky's ovr (I like the guy, but his ovr is way too high) so I hope to make the big time in year 3.

Rob, I'm still in my first year... currently in the playoffs for my AA team. Hopefully move up for the 2010 season.

Finally wrapped up the 2009 season with the AA Tennessee Smokies:

And now we're on our way to the playoffs! However, we fell apart the second half of the season.

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread

Hey guys. I'm brand new to "The Show", and all I have to say is WOW !!!! I don't remember ever being so addicted to a video game. All I play is sports games, and I like them to be as realistic as possible, while still being fun. I basically bought a PS3 for the Blu-Ray ability and for the great reviews I was reading on this game. I had 2K9 on Xbox 360 and was disappointed.

So, I got the game and played around with all of the features. I then started my RTTS career. I used my 2 year old son's name and made him a switch-hitting shortstop. I was drafted by the Astros and played my first spring on Rookie, since this is my first time playing this game and I'm still getting used to the controls. Let me tell you, once I start playing, I don't want to stop. If I didn't have responsibilities to attend to, I would play this thing constantly. I absolutely love it !!!!

In my first spring, they gave me a lot of time, presumably to assess my talent and where I fit in the organization. I hit .290, with a homer, and 16 RBI in the spring. I was shipped to the Corpus Christi Hooks (AA), where I started as a backup SS and utility infielder. I was getting occasional starts all over the infield, but, mostly at 1B & 2B. I was hitting very well and kept asking the manager to start me. After several weeks, he gave in and I became the starting SS. I had my average all the way up to .380 at the all-star break, but, was lacking power with only one homer and very few extra-base hits. I started looking for opportunites to pull up on the controller and drive some pitches up in the zone. This brought my average down, while my power numbers went up a bit. I finished the season hitting .328 (4th in my league), 8 homers, and 68 RBI. I separated my shoulder with 2 weeks left to go in the season and was put on the DL.

In the off-season, the Astros put me on the 40 day DL. In my 2nd year of spring training, I was relegated to pinch-hitting duty and late inning defensive replacement or pinch-running duties. I only got one start all spring. After starting the year 0-10 at the plate, I began to tear it up and finished the spring hitting .333 with a homer, and 9 RBI in limited action.

When the Spring ended, I was thrilled to see the MLB schedule come up. I had made the Astros as a bench, utility player. I didn't play at all in the first 3 games, then in the 4th game, I was given a start at SS and was hitting 6th in the lineup. After all those games in AA & in the Spring, seeing Minute Maid Park (or whatever it is called now) and having the loud, cheering crowd was simply awesome. Not to get too caught up in a game, but, the first hitter that grounded to me at SS was Albert Pujols. It was so neat to finally be playing against the big boys. I went hitless in my first 3 at-bats, and then in the 4th at-bat, I pulled a ground ball between 1st & 2nd for my first Major League hit. A few games later, I nailed my first homer, a 3-run blast off of Carlos Zambrano, in a game that I went 3-5 with 5 RBI. I'm getting occasional starts and I'm about half way through April hitting over .400 with the one homer and 8 RBI. I think it is probably time for me to move up a level from Rookie, but, I'm having too much fun right now.

This is the most fun I've had playing a game in quite some time. I actually had big smiles on my face when getting that first hit & HR and playing in the big stadium against the superstars. I LOVE THIS GAME !!!!

If this game is scripted I've found a way to turn it off somehow....lol.

I'm in my 3rd year, and was recently demoted to backup 3B in AA. Yep, I suck. Funny thing is, I got called up early to AAA in my 2nd year and did pretty decent....ended up sticking the whole year up there. Back to square one for me. I started my guy at 18, so I'm only 20 now so I guess it's realistic in a sense that I'm in AA.

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread

DAMN man I had a good day in RTTS today. I got back at my Right Fielder after taking a few days off of hitting and trying out a starting pitcher because I was in a bad slump. My first AB back, I struck out on 3 pitches, including my weakness, low and outside sliders. I then proceeded to go 4-4, and finished the game 4-5, 2 doubles and 3 RBI. A good sign. I hit really well in AA, with the highlight being a HUGE walkoff homerun to dead center field. Now I'm in the Pirates organization, so I played for the Altoona Curve, so our home stadium was the one with the 420 ft center field wall. I'd come so close so many times to clearing it, but I always seemed to fall short. And I always try to hit walkoff homers, and this was my first ever in RTTS. It felt so good. Still waiting on that first RTTS Grand Slam, though. I took a high changeup for a strike on the first pitch, and I literally said "If he does that again I'm blasting it." And I didn't expect it at all, but there it was, a juicy hanging changeup with my name on it, and I smoked it to dead center to win the game in the bottom of the 10th. I was a little disappointed to see that there were no bonus points for hitting a walkoff, but whatever it's not a big deal.

After completing my advancement goals, I was called up to AAA (for the third time in my career, second this year. I'm in my third year right now). I started off not hitting well at all, but then I kind of got into a rhythym and started to get good wood and I'm hitting the ball fairly well now. I completed my first advancement goals, but they were easy as hell, it was increase your baserunning ability, and do not hit into more than 5 DP's in 5 weeks or something.

Now my advancement goals are going to be pretty tough, though. Draw 5 BB's in the next 7 series or something, hit .300, and Drive in X amount of runs. In addition to that, LHP Contact, and Bunting (**** bunting I hate when that's an advancement goal, they never even have me bunt).

Anyway, I just passed the All Star break, and I'm hoping deep down that if I do really good the rest of the way, and do well on my advancement goals, that I'll perhaps get a September callup to the Pirates, or at the very least an invite to Spring Training next season. I'm 3rd in the organization, and my competition is some scrub in AA who's hitting like .225 with no homers and 10 RBI, and some other n00b who is up with the big club and is hitting something like .140, no homers and 9 RBI.

Whew. Well that was a long read, but that's my update for today.

I finally got a chance to play again and after one start i found out i got promoted to be the ace of the AAA staff. I followed it this promotion up with a complete game, my first of the year. Here is the stat line.

So after that start i had one that was forgettable. Did not make it through five innings. So i got bumped down to the second spot in the rotation. I don't think it was because i pitched bad but some guy just came off the DL and i think he took my spot to get some reps before he goes back up to the bigs. So after the bad start i pitched the best game i have so far. A complete game shutout. I struck out 4 of the first 6 batters of the game. I was feeling it. I am currently 7-3 in my second year. I am feeling a big league call up very soon. Here's the stat line from my shutout.

My team (Jax. Suns) won the SL. I had a pretty good series. I'm in spring training of year two, now. I anticipate I'll end up playing in AAA this next season, but who knows.

I'm gonna go off on a tangent for a sec here - I've been curious, what do people use to take screenshots of their TVs? I know some people just use an actual camera, but some of the pics in this thread are way too clear to be pictures of a screen. Is your TV hooked up to your computer, and if so, what software do you then use?

                              Thanks...

Any of you guys remember what your stats were at the end of spring training in the first year. I am about three quarters of the way through and I am batting .263 with 0 hr and 3 rbi. Just wondering if this is in line with most others or am I doing way worse because I suck at hitting.

Also, I think I have heard this mentioned before, but I am a shortstop in RTTS. A few times a game during double plays when I am taking the throw at second, my guy just freezes for no reason until he catches the ball. Anyone found out how to fix this.
