Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread

Finally got called a starter in 2013!

The '6 yr rule' is annoying. I know thats the way it is, but the team can really take advantage of you. How do you ask for a trade? I've never that option under 'Interaction'. Unless the "I wont be resigning" option is it.

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread

I HAVE A FEW QUESTIONS ABOUT RTTS, I HOPE YOU CAN HELP ME. WHEN YOU ARE CREATING A PLAYERS, DO YOU CREATE YOURSELF, WITH YOUR NAME, YOUR WEIGHT, YOUR FAVORITE NUMBER, ETCETERA??? OR DO YOU INVENT A PLAYER
SECOND QUESTION IS IT CONTROLLS ONLY THE CREATED PLAYER OR THE NINE PLAYERS???
THIRD QUESTION (DEPENDS OF THE ANSWERS OF THE SECOND QUESTION)"WHAT POSITION SELECT?" BECAUSE PROBABLY PLAYING AS A FIELDER IS MORE BORING (OR BORIER?) THAN AS A PITCHER OR AS A CATCHER. SO WHAT DO YOU RECOMEND ME? I HAVE NEVER PLAYED BASEBALL SO I DON`T HAVE A NATURE POSITION, I CAN CHOOSE. WHAT`S BETTER? I `D LIKE TO HIT SO CAN A PITCHER DEVELOPS HITTING SKILLS OR STEALING BASES?
THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR ANSWERS AND SORRY FOR MY ENGLISH

The asking for a trade option only comes up at a certain time during the year, once the trade deadline approaches (end of July). I'm not sure if it pops back up in the offseason or anything, I've never checked.

Generally, at least in my experience, if you're doing good at all they won't trade you anyway because you are "too valuable".

        Good luck!

Not necessarily ... I was a really good pitcher in the AA farm system for the Tigers, but they kept putting me on the block, even when I asked to be taken off and they accepted, I would be back on the trade block the next week.

Although, I have one now as a SS for the Padres (I am the best player in AA stats wise), and they won't leave me alone. I asked to be traded, they said no way. I told them I wouldn't resign, they told me ok, but they were still going to give me an offer.

Well from the two prior posts, it's obvious "Wont resign" and "Want Trade" are two different interactive options.

I guess I will wait until around the trade deadline. It makes sense the trade option appears around that time.

            Thanks.

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread

I actually think that the "won't resign" option appearing there before your player is actually able to reach free agency is a bug. What else can you do besides resign? Sit out and play for no one. That option should only show up when the player is heading for free agency.

Anyway, I just had a memorable game with my starting pitcher. I'm in 2011 and have made the big club with the Reds. So far I've been pitching pretty good, except I keep having games where I hang zeroes for the first five innings or so, then I get knocked around for multiple runs in the 6th or so, so my ERA is pretty high despite pitching well.

So I'm playing the Astros in Minute Maid, and I'm pitching lights out. Giving up a hit here and there, but pretty much every time I get a double play right after to get out of trouble. Everything's going great, and going into the 9th inning, we're up 4-0 and I'm about to get my first complete game shutout in the majors. I get two quick outs by getting Jason Tyner and Miguel Tejada to ground out, and all is looking good. Two down in the ninth, here we go! Hunter Pence is up. I've been getting him out all day, but then all of a sudden, the ump starts calling EVERYTHING a ball. I threw 3 pitches that could have gone either way, but all of them got called balls and Pence walks. Alright... I'm still feeling good, still below 100 pitches.

Jason Smith comes up. He sucks, but somehow is 3 for 3 with 3 singles off me so far, so I have to pitch him carefully. First pitch, another called ball that could have been a strike. What the hell? The next pitch, I go for an up and in fastball, and Smith turns on it and bloops one over the second baseman. Pence moves to third on the hit. So now first and third, 2 outs, but still no runs surrendered.

And what do I see? The manager, making that slow, sad walk to the mound, and Francisco Cordero hustling in. I got pulled, one out away from a complete game shutout in only my 5th big league start! I was pissed!

I complained to the manager after the game, and he benched me for the next game. I guess that's what I get for arguing as a rookie.

Finally achieved my "Shut em' Out" trophy! Played the first year on Veteran until I felt comfortable to make the move then jumped up to All-Star for my 2010 season. HOF is in my sights!

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread

Man I am loving this mode, but my last 2 years have been down right dreadful. 2 years ago I appeared in 24 games at the AAA level before I dislocated my ankle sliding into third and missed the rest of the year. Last year I was limited to 50 something games between MLB and the AAA level before I broke my forearm sliding into second. After last year my levels where actually declining big time and I didn't make any gains in my progression. The last month of the season I came back and got called up by the club but I only pinch hit a few times and this killed my development. Now in the spring of the next year I am set to start for the Dodgers and I am killing the ball. I have hit 4 homers, drove in 11 RBI's and I am batting like .450 through the first few weeks of the spring. It feels like I have made huge strides with my player although my progression level hasn't changed. I love the fact that I am playing for the big club and doing well, but based on my last 2 years I probably still should be at the AAA level. It almost feels like I am being pushed along and not really tied into my palyers abilities. This is not ment to be a rant, so don't take it that way, please. Has anyone else felt like this. I would be happy spending more time in the minors. No matter what I am loving this game and can envision great things in future years for this game mode.
I can do all things in Christ who strengthens me!

Only 30? I am over 50 (at 51 I think). Going to break it tonight. I can't wait for all those points. Plus, I am right at the end of my season, so hopefully I get on the 40, or at least a spring training invite.

But here is something I don't understand. The Padres have 4 catchers on the 40, only 1 1st base, 1 3rd base. 3 SS (of course I am not one, although I am ranked 2nd overall in the org).

I only have a 1 year contract, and I would like to switch teams, but from what everyone said, I probably won't get any offers.

I hate that Nats. No offense at all. I can't count the times that they have been no-hit through 5+ innings. Or lose a game after giving up 2 runs early in a ball game and watching myself throw 6 or 7 innings and take the L or ND due to an anemic offense.

Currently 10-5 with a sub 2.50 ERA in early September. No chance at ROY or CY thanks Nats. 5 more years to FA. At least I will be PAID in 2 years...

I've been so busy, that I pretty much come home from work, play a game or two, spend time with GF, eat, hit the books, go to bed. Wash, rinse, repeat. There will be on eventually.

Okay. So I started as a 20 year old SP for the Pirates. I pitch pretty well in ST (2.50 ERA, 3-1 record), but get sent down to AA Altoona to start the season. I figure that's the way she goes, and that this "mode" was more conducive to realism, so no biggie.

What I later discover is that promotions are based entirely on how well you're rated, and not on your accomplishments... which sucks, because my guy is basically Nolan Ryan incarnated on the stats sheet, but Tanyon ****ing Sturtze in ratings.

I work my way up through the ranks of AA Altoona, going from spot relief, to middle, to long, and then finally to the back of the rotation. By the end of the year, I'm the staff ace. My line was as follows:

                                IP: 148.1
                                W-L: 13-4
                                ERA: 0.89
                                AVG: .209
                                SO: 109
                                BB: 10

I figured that, given my performance, they'd at least have a look at me at spring training... but after simulating the off-season, I discovered that I've been left off the 40-man roster and am subsequently not allowed to participate.

WTF? There goes a hefty chunk of friggin' training points.

On the plus side, I get assigned to AAA Indianapolis and get placed in the starting rotation immediately, so it isn't all bad. I proceed to move up to the #3 spot, putting up the following line:

                                IP: 107.1
                                W-L: 10-1
                                ERA: 1.43
                                AVG: .198 (lefties), .235 (righties)
                                SO: 111
BB: 1 (yes, one ****ing walk, because I don't sim any games)

Some of you may wonder how I get so many K's. The key is to pump the living crap out of your fastball. If you play all of your games, you don't have to worry about how your other pitches are rated, because you should be throwing the off-speed stuff away from the plate just to mess up their timing. If you want to throw some junk across the plate, do it straight down the middle on the first pitch to each batter. They won't swing most of the time, and even if they do they're friggin' AA batters and usually have 7 of 9 zones rated cold, so it's not like they'll go yard.

Once you get promoted to AAA, add some control to your change and some velocity to your curve. That's how I've done it, anyway.

                                Back to the rant...

So I've got these incredible numbers--which are well ahead of any other pitcher in the league, let alone the organization--and I can't get past the third spot in the rotation. I've made all but three or four of my advancement goals, and my manager sends me nothing but kind remarks, but you'd think Phil Dumatrait and Russ Ohlendorf are Satchel Paige and Sandy Koufax in Indianapolis.

What pisses me off even more is the fact that the MLB roster is getting ripped to shreds. They sport the worst offense, pitching staff, and W-L record in the majors... yet they'll call up Joe Jobber (0-7, 6.86 ERA) consistently over me. And this is after I gave them a discount on a two year deal to start.

It's looking more and more like, with the exception of injuries, the progression to the majors in this game is completely scripted, because unless I throw ten consecutive no-hitters with 15 K's in each game, I can't generate enough training points to get my ratings up fast enough.

The other problem is that too many of the junkies ahead of me are overrated, which doesn't help.

As for the game... what the hell is up with the infielders? I've played around 60 games in AAA this year, and the infielders have combined for 93 BLEEPING ERRORS!!!!! There is always one throwing gaff in each of my games (poor 1B always gets overthrown), and I can expect at least one idiot dive play from one of them, too. The hilarious counterpoint: the outfielders have combined for 8 errors. I'm pretty sure all of these E's were during my starts, too, because lord knows I've seen enough hot dog diving attempts on line drives that, if were fielded off the bounce instead, would be a single instead of a god damned triple.

And the idiotic managerial decisions... you have to love it when you're seven innings into a two-hit shutout, give up a single, and ****-for-brains in the team jacket comes out to relieve you. What makes it even better is that, since you're in the Pirates organization, the relief is almost assured to either get you a no decision, or cough up the game completely.

Oh well. They got pissed off at me when I asked for a contract extension and said they'd shop me, so screw 'em.
