Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread

I'm playing pitcher, currently for Reading Phillies. I've played one full game in the season proper and managed a shutout! I didn't keep my place though, of course. I did get taken off the trading block though. Should think so!

One thing that has confused me so far is the all my advancement goals have related to fielding and none to pitching. Is it because I have particularly rubbish stats for fielding, or is this usual when playing pitcher?

Thats normal, and probably is because your fielding ratings are bad. The goals are like that for any position really, making you train things that don't really matter that much.

Okay, thanks. Perhaps it's to stop you putting all your training points into your specific position. That Fielding PCT target can be tricky, as well, if you're pitching, because you might get one chance to field during the advancement period and you have to take it.

Fielding % is a tricky goal for SS too. It's usually a 7 series goal and the goal is the have a 993% or something so if you make 1 error in those games, you fail that goal. Kind of sucks.

for people getting too many throwing errors try this. after you get the ball take your finger off the left stick before you push the button to throw. I was having trouble with all my throws from the outfield being way up the line and when I started using that technique my throws are alot straighter.

doesnt really help though when your a pitcher. I had three throwing errors last game. but still came out with the win.... how does that happen? Oh well it did. I will try it though maybe I am using the effin left stick. I also want to try and working at my fielding slider. I am only like at a 30 rating on it. Stamina is about 89 or so, the hits/9 is in the 80s. the k's/9 is at 67 and control is a b rating and velocity is a c. I dont really touch the velocity because I am a knuckle ball pitcher. I am thinking about getting a new pitch when the next season starts. I have a four seam and i have a palm ball. Can you guys name off some of your favorite pitches for a possible fourth pitch?

As I posted many, many pages ago I'm a Orioles C who got promoted to AAA within a month of the season because of injury. At first I was struggling becasue it was obivous that I wasn't ready for AAA. But eventually I got adjusted to it and started to hit the ball well.

Even though I'm putting up better stats than the starter, I still can't crack the every day starting lineup, so imagine my surprise when I get called up to the majors in the middle of June due to a one to two month injury.

At first I was glad, first year in my career and I'm already in the show, then reality hit me like a ton of bricks. I can't get a hit which means I can't get any points which means my player can't get better.

So I'm sitting at .125 watching all my attributes bleeding brown because I'm not good enough to get any points when lo and behold, the guy if off the DL, and I'm sent back to the minors. I can't believe how happy I was to be playing in AAA again.

Of course I proceded to go on a 20 game hitting streak on my return.

Does anyone have a tried and tested way of getting traded? I tried not doing goals, asking for a trade every time the option comes up, complain about the chemistry of the team ... nothing! I can get on the trading block, but there is never takers (just won MVP).

Dude I'm stuck with the Mariners. LOL But seriously though. If you didnt like the team who drafted you then you should have just picked a team to play for.

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread

I figured I'd throw my RTTS pitcher up.

I am a closer, chose to go to Spring Training with the Tampa Bay Rays since Percival is getting up there in age. I signed a 2 year deal with them.

2009 was spent in AA with Montgomery in which we won the AA Championship Series. I also made the All-Star team.
                      Code:
GP W-L ERA S BS H IP BB K WHIP RBA LBA
                      53 2-0 1.45 40 4 4 49.2 1 35 0.66 .195 .152
2010 I spent 1 week in AA before being called up to AAA. I was also traded to Toronto before the deadline for a 30 year old RP.
                      Code:
Level GP W-L ERA S BS H IP BB K WHIP RBA LBA
                      AAA 53 1-0 1.88 7 1 18 52.2 1 41 0.70 .210 .171
                      AA 6 0-0 0.00 6 0 0 5.2 0 8 0.53 .111 .182
2011 I signed a 1 year deal with Toronto and pitched in 21 games in AAA before being called up. My first MLB strike out was against David Wright. I have only given up two hits to a left handed hitter in my MLB career, and both were to A-Rod.
                      Code:
Level GP W-L ERA S BS H IP BB K WHIP RBA LBA
                      MLB 23 1-0 1.38 1 1 4 39.0 3 23 0.56 .187 .033
                      AAA 21 2-0 0.90 4 0 8 30.0 0 30 0.57 .194 .105
2012 I was auto-signed to a 1 year deal with Toronto and sent to AAA to start the season which is where I left off.

I only throw a 4 seam fastball, slider, and 2 seam fastball. I can hit 97 with the 4 seamer.

                      I am C overall, B velocity, F stamina, D control, F fielding, A potential.

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread

After having my 2nd base career derailed in September of 2012, I rolled up a pitcher and a first baseman. My SP blew through the minors, made the 40-man after season 1 and won a bullpen job with the big club in year 2. I made the rotation on the strength of a 7 2/3-inning extra innings relief spell, during which I only allowed 3 hits (unfortunately, one was a walkoff single). After making the rotation, I won the Cy Young, leading the league in almost every pitching cat except HR Allowed (I give up a lot of gopherballs) and Wins (I only had 16). I signed a 10-year, $5 million contract (500k a year lol), hoping the team would get some offensive run support for me.

I got tired of pitching, so I rolled up a 6'10" mashing 1st baseman. I noticed that the Angels had one of the worst collection of 1Bs, so I'd have a good shot at the Majors pretty quick. I'm in year two, and I've yet to fail an advancement period. Not only am I the best 1B on the club and AAA, I'm the 4th best player in the whole organization! (behind Manny, Hunter, and Fuentes) I lead AAA in HRs, doubles, triples (the Bees park is ridiculous for triples) and RBI by comfortable margins. And yet, I still won't get the call to the big club. I apparently "need more time in AAA". What do I have left to prove?

SHUTOUT! I got the complete game shutout last night. In the 9th I sat down 2 and walked the next guy. I thought for sure, being at about 112 pitches or so, that the coach was going to yank me. I was all set to be pissed off and then I realize he's going to let me try to finish. Next batter was on a hot streak so I knew I had to concentrate on him. Got him to pop up behind home to seal the deal. Got some nice points for that one.

I would love to get the no hitter but since I usually pitch for contact I just dont' see it happening. Maybe if I can run across a weak squad or a squad playing bad ball at the moment I can get one. I gave up 4 or 5 hits in the shutout but maybe I can work it better.

This is for people who play as catchers. Do you actually call pitches and location and stuff? How does that work? I think that may be fun also.

No. You only play when someone is stealing a base, someone bunts, or when someone hits a pop up right in front of the plate. Tons of bonus points though since you get credit for put outs for every strike out.

Is there any way you could adjust your player the assets you want him to have? Like I want to make my guy a speedy outfielder, yet how am I supposed to do that when I have to achieve those stupid goals?
