re: Too many two out inning rallies by AI!! (Comeback AI Discussion)

Ok, so I started a franchise with the Yankees and first game was against the Blue Jays. I went in and adjusted the ai's batting down a bit on the batting attributes. I won the game 3-0 on a 3 run A-Rod shot in the top of the 7th. I was able to fend off any attempt they had at a rally and Mariano Riveria came in in the bottom of the 9th to close the door with 2ks and a fly out. Overall it was a much better game for me. The final looked like this

    Yankees: 3 12 1
    Blue Jays: 0 4 0

wow there must be something because i'm the yanks playing the rays. burnette pitching a beauty int the 6th only allowing 2 hits 7 strikeouts. I'm up 5-0 just beautiful beautiful everything is going great. Burnette got a nice era of 2.00 going. Then out of nowhere boom burnette gets knocked out with an era about 5.00 now and the rays are leading 8-5 off of grandslams and doubles. everything is set to default all sliders and playing on veteran. and i am very very good at pitching so i know what i was doing. it def seems cpu has this ability now where it HAS to catch up its cant just be a blow out or a anything.

Played a game tonight as the Yankees on Veteran difficulty (comeback AI - Off)..

I'm winning 3-0 through 8 vs the Rangers (in Texas, Pettite gave up just 3 hits in 6.2 innings, but his energy was depleated and his control was getting bad so I went to the bullpen for a fresh arm which seemed like the right move, for about 2 innings), then in the 9th I bring in Rivera to close it out (fully rested and fully warmed up), he gets a quick out and then it starts...back to back doubles followed by a HR...tie game (wow there's a shocker), I start to warm up Marte but before I can get him in, another HR...game over. I purposely started pitching off the plate while waiting for Marte to get warm, I was willing to give an unintentional / intentional walk while trying to get them to chase since I figured that Mo just didn't have it today. Seems Mo hardly ever has has it for some reason though (or K-Rod, or Joe Nathan...hmm, that's weird isn't it?). Doesn't make any difference though, because inevitably a pitch catches part of the zone by accident and apparently Superman has disguised himself as a Rangers' catcher named Taylor Teagarden and proceeds to launch a Mariano cutter on the black over the wall...game over (Teagarden?!? 390+ feet on a Mo cutter on the black....Really?!? Apparently so ). Welcome to "bazaaro baseball" ladies & gentlemen.

I'm not even getting angry anymore, I just started laughing it's so ridiculous. Once in a while yes, but nearly every game is just plain stupid. I guess I've moved on from anger to acceptance now. Without a patch, it's going to be a LOOONG season. Anybody still making current rosters for MLB 08?

i hear ya man i have the AI comeback set to off as well yet it always seems to happen. my record keep going from a losing to a winning to an even then winning then even then losing then even. i'm 4-4 so far its just very back and forth. The computer always constantly coming back, its just frustrating going out there with my starters and pitching great and then their era's are just inflated i dunno.

Let me reiterate my perspective. I don't "play," I watch CPU games (exhibition). I've been in the process of making slider adjustments since I purchased the game on March 4. I've watched several CPU v CPU games on levels Rookie, Vet, All Star & HOF. More often than not most games are decided by 1 run. Several games have gone into x-tra innings esp since the games are so close at the end. I do notice the tit for tat comebacks by the CPU on both sides. I somewhat noticed this issue in last yrs game as well but thought it might not be present here. Trust me, I really want this game to work out b/c there was alot of time put in this game. If a patch can correct this, I would be in favor of it. There does seem to be something inherent in the programming whereas there is actually a CPU comeback even when the slider is off.

I watched 2 more games on Vet this morning. The first was Oak and LA. Oak has 6 run lead but by the 9th it is 6-5. Oak wins but again its a 1-run game. Game 2 was also another 1 run game. I wonder what will happen if i turn cpu comebk on???

yeah there is something inherent there, but believe me its alot more frustrating having this happen to you when you're playing rather then watching bleh just yea

re: Too many two out inning rallies by AI!! (Comeback AI Discussion)

Just played an excellent game between Fins and Braves! Well.. until the 10th inning. I'm the Braves.. Here is the Game log of the 10th inning. Game is tied 1-1

Marlins batting. Rabelo struck out swing early at a 1-2 fastball down the middle. (1 out). Mayben doubled to center. Hermida lined to center for a single Mayben scores (2-1). Ramirez doubled to right. Hermida advances to third. Cantu struck out on a 2-2 outside fastball. (2 out). Uggla intentional walked (bases load)

Now here's where the fun part starts lol... Cody Ross grounded to Escobar, easy right? well he got it fine, and in my head i was saying "no throwing error please!" SOL said SCEA! throwing error on Escobar. Hermida and Ramirez score.

At this point i simmed to next half inning to finsh game. Cpu actually got out of inning 4-1, so that was promising. I know if I platyed through they would've prolly had 5 or 6 runs. I believe SCEA put the simming through half inning at a time for this very reason now lol... Im not mad about it anymore like the previous poster said. But when I have throwing errors and fielding error sliders set at zero... what else can I do??? NOTHING! Well, other than never play extra innings of games, and never get a chance to save a game and always sim that half of the inning. Im to the point where once a man reaches base in the 9th or later, I'm just going to sim the rest of that half inning and pray the cpu saves the game for me or whatever...

Sorry SCEA, game is awesome, but this brings rating down from a 9.5 to at most a 8(IMO).

I won a second game with the Yankees 3-2, it took 15 innings though because of a top of the 9th rally.

playing my third game of the 3 game set againsthe rays. was winning 1-0. then they tied then got up 2-1. then i tied 2-2 now they got it back 4-2. the cpu just seems to have an entire roster of clutch hitters getting those doubles when they need and hr. and i know what i am doing with the pitching and some of the pitches they hit for these big runs i dont understand

i understand just like real life and obviously i dont mind the ai comeback every now and then. if i wanted if all the time i'd turn the ai comeback option on. but when its off and its happening every single game then yeah its a problem. i've already played 9 games and the computer has come back in every single game. i can predict the double her. the hr there.

I'd be shocked if there wasn't some comeback mode in place here. I noticed this the other day and just thought I was going crazy. Glad to see other people are seeing this. I simply can't extend leads. If I hit a 3-run homer, I can almost guarantee they will score in the next inning.

I'll keep playing and hope this isn't true, but as great as this game is, if true, this is a game killer. If I want catch-up mode I'll stick to NFL Blitz.

another way to put it too is my first three series were agiainst the orioles royals and rays. the rays might be ranked higher up there but the orioles and royals? it's understandable for higher ranked teams to make comebacks. maybe not constant ones in a row. and as for the lower ranked like the O's and royals for them to make comebacks in every single game just a little ehhh

well just lost another game that they computer came back to win. i just wanna show a little something here

NYY Record 4-5, in last place

                              starting rotation:
                              CC - 0-2, 6.00 ERA, 9K's, 2 BB
                              Wang - 1-1, 4.50 ERA, 7K's, 0 BB
                              AJ - 0-0, 6.00 ERA, 10K's, 3 BB
                              Pettite - 1-1, 6.00 ERA, 9K's, 0 BB
                              Joba - 1-0, 3.00 ERA, 5K's, 0 BB

now i am not saying that those numbers are terible but all the games i pitched with CC AJ and Pettite were gems nice low era's like Joba's even lower and then comeback city everytime for the computer. I know the numbers can get better as the season has only just started 9 games in. But it is frustrating when most of those times i should of had the win, my numbers should of been better. But in all 9 games comeback city just took over and inflated those numbers

Have you tried lowering the ai's batting abilities through the sliders. I did that and it has seem to make a little difference. In the comeback in the last game I played it was a perfect play by the ai I have to tip my hat to them.

I had them down one out in the top of the 9th with a runner on first. They put the hit and run in effect and Jeter was moving over towards second for a play on the steal and the batter hit it in the hole were Jeter had been. It rolled to left field and the guy went from first to home on the play.
