Baseball video games have always been my favorite sports video games. Rivaled only in recent years by EA's NHL games. However, there is still a special place in my heart (yeah, I said it) for a good baseball video game. And ever since the incorporation of franchise modes I've set out to complete multiple years. But to no avail. It never fails. From All-Star Baseball to MVP, to MLB The Show I rarely, if ever get to the post season.
This is obviously because I play every single game. No simulating. All of this is a bit frustrating because I love the idea of developing prospects, bringing them up through the minors and turning them into Major League studs. I love the idea of trying to sign key free agents in the offseason and offload unneeded salary. But I've never gotten that far.
This year will be different. I am determined. But, there is only one catch. I have came to the realization that I cannot play every single game if I wish to do this. I'm going to have to give in and simulate some games from time to time to do the things I want to do.
My question is, for those of you guys who succeed at getting 5, 10, or 15 years into franchise, how do you do it? What games to you choose to simulate? I need to develop a system because if I go into my franchise this year with no plan I'll end up never simulating and therefore not finishing a year. So again, what strategies do you guys employ to insure that your franchises actually progress beyond the first season?
