i dont know how people do it. by the time i start a franchise (usually after the first full roster updates by Knight get released), its practically the all star break. i get about a months worth of games in, and its already playoff season. once the real life world series ends, its over johnny. football season. i dont think ive ever even gone to the all star break in the game.

Re: Strategy for completing multiple franchise years
Coming from a Seasonal, Exhbition, Occasional Online/My Player and now the newly added Co-op in this years game MLB player. I definitely find this a interesting thread. Nice to see the varieties of you Franchise Guys and how you get to your accomplishments. It kinda swaying me into trying this for MLB11 if I force myself to give it a go as I just never thought of actually simming games would be part of my repitior. Now to find the best post that offers the best strategy to my liking is the hard part.
Thanks again OS Show Chise Guys.HITTERSAURUS-REX

Re: Strategy for completing multiple franchise years
One thing you could do, is maybe half your games (or however many you want), only play one on side of the ball. Either just be the pitcher, or just be the hitters and quick sim the other half. That will speed up the length of time it takes to compelte games and therefore, the season as well.Comment

Re: Strategy for completing multiple franchise years
Just curious for those that sim games as well as play. When you are playing with a certain set of sliders tailored to you skill level, do you sim using these sliders or do they make a difference in simmed games?Comment

Re: Strategy for completing multiple franchise years
i actually did the "rotation method" (comes out to 1 out of 6 games or 27 total for the year) but for the games i didn't play, i would go choose "sportscast" or whatever that mode is, set my lineup and then, when the game started, just back out so that the game is simmed anyway. i did this so i could control how much playing time--and at what positions--my bench players received.Comment

Re: Strategy for completing multiple franchise years
i play every game of the 162 franchise season....i cant sim. i like being held accountable for whatever happens to my Cubbies but i totally envy those who can sim and do the rotation style type of play. you can get multimple seasons in...something i can never do.
i am currently 30-31 with my Cubs and plan on playing out the next 132 games before i buy MLB The Show 11. love it!!GO CUBS

Re: Strategy for completing multiple franchise years
I nerd it up and figure it out with a calendar before the season starts. Forty games.
4 against division (16)
2 against other AL teams (18)
6 games for interleague (6)
Lets me see every stadium that the Jays play in, and lets me get through multiple seasons. And if I'm in it come September, then I can play every game and get the pennant race feeling and still play only around 60 games which still isn't a ton.ST. LOUIS RAMS FRANCHISE (MADDEN 2010)

Re: Strategy for completing multiple franchise years
- 4 games against division opponents: 2 home, 2 away
- X*4 = Z, where X=number of teams in your division minus your team, where Z= the amount of games played
- So if I'm the Dodgers, I'd play the 4 other teams 4 teams each. 4*4=16
- 2 games against inter-division (NL Central/NL East): 1 home, 1 away
- X*2 = Z, where X= number of teams in NL Central/NL East, where Z= number of games played
- I'd play the 11 teams in NL Central & East each twice. 11*2=22
- Any 6 games of interleague play: 3 home, 3 away
- 6 games total - you choose which games
- Add 16+22+6= 44 games
I'm going to add a wrinkle and get those 44 games in prior to Sept. 1st so I can pick and choose any game in Sept or all of them if I'm in the race. With aub's strategy you could play anywhere between 40-80 games depending on how successful your team does.
I'm hoping this system will allow my to play at least 3 seasons. I'll mostly likely sportscast the games I don't play using a different profile, so I can keep my game states (the games I play) separate from the simmed ones.
Does that make sense?Comment

Re: Strategy for completing multiple franchise years
i like to keep the game as realistic as possible, and sometimes i don't like making moves as a gm because i feel my team gets too good...
this year, i will try and play all 162 games plus playoffs for the first time ever. should be fun to see that all the stats in the game at the end of the season are all my doing.Comment

Re: Strategy for completing multiple franchise years
I'll use the Dodgers as an example. The Dodgers play in the NL West which is comprised of 5 teams: LAD, ARZ, COL, SD, SF. You would then use the following formulas to play every team on your schedule at least 1 time @ home and 1 away.
- 4 games against division opponents: 2 home, 2 away
- X*4 = Z, where X=number of teams in your division minus your team, where Z= the amount of games played
- So if I'm the Dodgers, I'd play the 4 other teams 4 teams each. 4*4=16

Re: Strategy for completing multiple franchise years
I always try to play all 162 but I've never done it. Last year I was about 45-28 in my Mets season in which I played all of them. My goal was to play at least one game a day so I keep it going. I started playing online and 3 or 4 days went by without playing and I just kind of lost interest. Then it turned into a week. I was still playing online though.
I'm gonna try again this year. I don't like the idea of simming every 3rd game. I create sim franchises in which I sim every game and breeze through every season and try to make my team as good as it can.
The reward of playing all 162 is pretty cool. Seeing the stats you compile and how close they are to being realistic.Comment
