Re: Play it at a kiosk? Post impressions here!!

Here are some shots I took with my phone earlier... so please excuse the pic quality, and the up close shots (blame BB's 2 inch USB cord LOL)

One thing I couldn't find was the ability to press R2 while batting to view the strike zone and pitch sequence, but I think it was moved to another button.

Maybe I'm reading this wrong, but the above seems like an attack. Yes, obviously at Best Buy we will all be much closer to the display than at home (I hope), but that doesn't mean everything that we see can be attributed to that with certainty, like anything that looks worse blame it on the viewing distance.

I of course attributed it to that, but now looking at the impressions there are a few people remarking that the graphics looked worse than last year in some ways. Yes this could be the TV settings and distance and probably is IMO, but it's not definitive, and I didn't think it was necesary to put a "DUH" type comment in there.

If I read it wrong I'm sorry, but that was my interpretation.

He wasn't attacking you, it's just obvious, the closer you are to any tv the worse it looks.

No, but I would like to think it is common sense to me that if you are standing 1 foot away from a 50 inch screen, that even the good lord himself would not look that sharp.

That is why they have distance charts on what HDTV size to purchase.

Just didn't expect people to write a thesis on it as to why it looked bad, when it is quite obvious I would like to think from the get go.

Don't take it personal, it was just me being a smart-***.

Like I said I might have interpreted wrong, if that is the case I am sorry. Someone had already pointed that out, so I had initially taken his remark as "isn't that obvious dude?".

But I hardly wrote a thesis on why it looked bad, most of my thesis was about the game, with only a couple sentences on why it looked kinda bad. And I only touched on the crowd, others were much more pointed on the graphics overall than I was.

I also, unlike others, said "it looked bad but was likely the TV and distance", where some others didn't mention that as prominently.

I understand viewing distances and HDTV sizes, and didn't pretend like it was anything else.

Anyways, lets get back to discussing this amazing game. Sorry for any misunderstanding, no hard feelings.

Re: Play it at a kiosk? Post impressions here!!

OK! Just got back from my local Best Buy, and while most peeps already posted all of the great stuff that is in this years MLB 10 The Show, I figured I'd let everyone know what I saw by the way of player editting, since that's my favorite thing about this game. And I must say that this years Show doesn't disappoint (except for a couple things) with respect to all the different options that were added to change on each player. After checking out the player edit options I moved on to an Exhibition Game, Boston Red Sox versus Tampa Rays, day game/clear skies. I played a full nine just to get the jist of this fantastic game. Lemme tell u, my feet and legs got pretty tired standing there for a while, but it was worth it! Anyways, here is a synopsis of what I saw.

                * Hidden Stances are still here. Big fat bummer! Evan Longoria and Jacoby Ellsbury still have Generic 1 stances, but when u play them in-game their stances show up. And cuz Hidden stances are here again I'm gonna assume that Hidden deliveries are here too. Before my game against the Rays (I was the Red Sox) I checked to see if Daniel Bard had a signature delivery but it said Generic 1, so I figured he didn't have one. Then I brought him in at the end of my game and it seemed that he did have a signature delivery.

                * You still cannot add a wristband on top of a long sleeve. Another bummer! I tried it with Jeter, and it was a no go. Once u add the sleeve all options for the wrists and forearms are greyed out.

                * All wristbands and forearm bands can be changed to team color 1&2 and the basically any color u want after that. I think that every color for every team is available for use no matter what player/team u are editting. It's pretty great. Like Evan Longoria wears that black wristband on his right wrist, so u can have that! And if u decide to change the color of the wristband or forearm band u still have the option to have numbers or not to have numbers.

                * Pretty much every part of the cleat is changable. The laces, the symbol, top of the shoe, side, bottom, and they look fantastic now that they have color to them. It's so nice to see the shoes with color other than black and white. Big Papi's stock shoe looked pretty great!

                * Elbow Guard / Shin Guard can be edited to ANY color!

                * Bats - Pine Tar can be added. Different colors for the top part of the bat or the bottom part.

                * Pine Tar on helmets are pretty much the same, but I thought the helmets looked better for some reason this year. Thus the combo between the pine tar and the helmets themselves I thought looked great!

                * Sunglasses - Colors are available for the lenses and the rims of the glasses depending on which pair of shades u choose your player to wear.

                * Batting Gloves - Basically there are four (I think) different sections u can change. The wrist, the top of the hand, the outter part, and the fingers. Again, any color u want to change the sections to. Pretty much every team color.

                * Sleeves - Same as last year. Nothing new.

                * Eye Black, Turtle Neck, still there as usual.

                * Catcher's Equiptment - Pretty much everything is edittable. Mask, chest protector (Two colors-I think. No more than three), leg protectors (Two colors).

                * Uniforms, hats, and helmets look fantastic this year!

                * Stances/Deliveries - Looked fantastic! And what I thought was the best was that if u played in Real-Time the pitcher's and batter's don't snap into postion, they step out and walk around. It makes this game feel like you're really watching a real game on television. Some stances were done over, Manny Ramirez and Pablo Sandavol stand out as do-overs. Other than that there are still the same wrong stances from last year. Looks like we'll be doing a lot of stance editting again this year guys. I also noticed that some of the Generic Stances were stances from players that were there last year, but not this year. Nomar stands out, as well as Boccachica, and....There were others that I recognized but I can't remember off hand.

Well, that's what I can remember for right now. If anyone has any questions, just ask and I'll try and help u out the best I can. Later

Does anyone feel like I do now, and feel obliged to buy this game at the store we are going to daily now to play? lol I seriously feel like I HAVE to buy this game at the best buy store Im going to.

I would take pen and paper with me to write some things down I notice so I dont forget, but that would prolly look very strange. Going back in tmrrw morning to meet a fellow OSer I just met and play lol. Can't wait until tuesday, but Heavy Rain is keeping me busy until then, which is an amazing game in itself for the PS3(def recommend at least renting).

He was responding to me and I was responding too you. I quoted what you said and I said go with that thought. It is being that close to the TV. If you back away like you would when you play at home. It will be a lot better. That is all we are really saying. No attack on our parts.

I don't know about those people, but on my TV last year this game looked amazing and according to all the CD's guy they all said it looked even better. So yes, I am going to say it was the TV's fault. They probably have it set to 480p too at Bestbuy. Some know what they are doing and some don't. I will go see if the one by my work has it up tomorrow. Any way, I enjoy your impressions, so keep them coming.

I love the way the game plays. I played the Phil's and I got rocked in the first inning. I gave up a 3 run blast to Werth. I did see fans reaching for foul balls and loved the atmosphere in big situations. I also loved the broadcast camera.

TV's on display at stores usually have crappy settings. They jack up the Contrast/Brightness and Sharpness (which adds picture noise) because the general public thinks that brighter/sharper means better picture.

I always cringe when I walk by the TV section at a store like Best Buy.

I think it would be naive to think that the graphics got "worse", lol. It's the exact same graphics engine, with better lighting/shadows and animations.

Graphics were much improved and the lighting (even for night games) was like night & day compared to last year.. I want to break into Best Buy just to play again..
