Re: Play it at a kiosk? Post impressions here!!

Played it at the closest best buy to work for about 30 minutes. Definitely think this is going to be a year of subtle change. Played a night game at Dodger stadium and it looks about the same. I was hoping for an improvement in uniform textures. I played on a sony widescreen (46" bravia I think), pretty sure is was running at 720 so that could be the reason. fyi i preordered a few months ago and i'm still getting it day 1. Didn't really notice much of a difference with fielding and throwing either. Animations yes but button pressing to adjust the hardness of the throw no.

btw- I love the broadcast cam.

Played a full game at the Best Buy in East Hanover NJ and let we say "WOW" What an improvement over 09.....I played a night game Yankees vs. Phillies...I was so impressed with how amazing Yankee Stadium looks now. Photo realistic. Fans reaching over rails, throw meter actually works properly (very mvp like). New camera angle is a great improvement. I picked it up that inning. Very easy to get use to. Hit a bomb with Granderson just inside the right field foul pole 447 feet. It just missed the third deck by inches. The hitting feels right. You can now feel a pull or an opposite field shot. Ball physics are amazing..I put a shot off the pitchers ankle which was picked up by the shortstop for the put out. Crowd gets loud when appropriate. With custom sounds this game should receive a 9.5....Its really that good.....

Yeah but if you're playing with the Mets, the uniforms are far from the worst thing about them.

Re: Play it at a kiosk? Post impressions here!!

A couple left over impressions after my first run with the game earlier today. Saw my first fan fall out of the stands going after a foul ball, pretty funny! Saw the "Show Mo" or super slow motion replay cam on a replay featuring the pitcher, also a nice touch. There was an awesome play where Mauer legged out an infield hit, but the throw short hopped the first baseman and got away from him. I took second (barely) on the play with a nice slide, and the whole sequence made my jaw drop as the broadcast cam followed the play perfectly! Saw a ball fouled off softly and lightly bounce off the top of the twins dugout as Gardy watched from the rail. Pavano threw a wild pitch, and the broadcast cam kept the action from the TV perspective (CF camera looking at home plate) instead of flipping behind the plate, thought that was really cool. Another thing i don't think i have ever seen before... Morneau comes to the plate, and as he is getting ready for his at bat, he removes his batting helmet to clear sweat off his brow. Correct me if I am wrong but i don't remember batting helmets ever coming off. TC (mascot) now has a dugout to dance on top of.

other misc. thoughts... Minneapolis skyline and surrounding buildings were rendered very well. Very neat to see the IDS building out behind the first baseline on a pitch fouled off to the upper deck. They also managed to get the target center and plaza areas looking quite nice. They have a large Players trust advertisement in place of the large budweiser sign on top of the Office buildings and party patio. Thome already is depicted in twins hat for his mug shot, very nice. I used the alt jerseys (the blue ones) for the day game, and no more awful red hat! For home games twins have many uni options (white, alt navy blue, 80's style throwback, 60's style throwback, warmup).

Also funny side note, at least one BB employee came up to check out the game while i was playing. I easily knew more about the game than he did. He commented about the fact that we had trees out in center field. A couple shoppers walked by and did a double take at the fact I was playing a game at target field.

Oh man, i think I am going to have to go back tomorrow. If I could only swing a day off from work.

Can they add an extra mode to play as Tomahawks with Red & Blue hats next year? I think Tomahawk sign must have been mentioned 987 times in this thread.. Maybe the catchers can be Dalmation cows with Chicken sandwiches..

Wow, that's cool I didn't notice that when I played. It's great to hear impressions from a Twins fan with Mauer being on the cover and the shiny new stadium.

This is very good to hear. It didn't happen at all last year and so you knew you could always chance a risky throw to first because the 1B would always dig it out.

Re: Play it at a kiosk? Post impressions here!!

Played the game tonight at my local BB and here are my impressions:

I fired up the game and immediately went into the edit player screen. I noticed a similar interface.

I then went into a Home Run Derby with Adrian Gonzalez and Mark Reynolds at the new Target Field just to check it out.

I chose Gonzo to see how the lefty felt. He felt good I blasted 15 jacks with the longest being an upper deck shot taped at 469 ft. I really liked the way the ball comes off the bat and how the ball is followed into the stands in this mode.

I then chose Reynolds because he is a righty and has big power. He also hit some mammoth shots, but only connected on 4 with the longest being a 467 ft blast.

I then decided to play a game. I used All-star hitting and pitching with GP off, hot zones off etc. No aids.

I also used Catcher view for hitting and Pitcher view for pitching.

Chose exhibition Orioles vs. D-Backs at Fenway.

                  Started Matusz vs. Haren.

The graphics were a lot more tighter and sharper. Matusz walked Drew to open the game and he allowed a run from a sharp single to right by Upton. The throwing mechanics seemed a big different and the fielders seem to bend their arms and then fire. It doesnt seem like a continuous motion anymore. I did whiff CY in the first (shocking right!)

Bottom 1: Roberts robbed at third on a leaping grab my Reynolds. This replay was awesome and shows a very realistic theft of my ripped hit.

Jones k'd on a curveball in the dirt. Wieters looked spot on and was retired on a fly ball to center.

The second was pretty glum on both sides as I retired the side and k'd two with Matusz. Bottom half saw Markakis get into a nice hitters count 2-0 and I used the power swing to rip a beautiful single to right. That was about it.

The fourth allowed back to back homers to Upton and LaRoche, both on hanging curveballs. I was down 3-0

Bottom four is where I came alive. Wieters ripped a single up the middle which was followed by another single up the middle by Tejada. I then scored on a single to right from second with Wieters, runner advanced to third on the throw to the plate. Reimold hit a deep sac fly to center allowing Tejada to score, 3-2. I got myself into a few hitters counts in the bottom of the order and drew a couple walks. I then turned it up 5-3 and left.

I didnt see this RTP? Where is it?

Overall the game seems the same with some tweaking to hitting and the way the ball comes off of the bat. I didnt see too much just yet.

Yeah I know for sure the throw was in the dirt, i believe the first baseman made his best attempt at picking the ball on the short hop but whiffed entirely.

Also before I forget. Pop foul behind third and Matt Tolbert ranges back to give it a shot near the stands. As I approach the stand I hit the wall climb button, and he freakin climbed the tarp! couldn't believe it. Didn't make the catch but i was in awe. I don't think you were able to do this before, were you?

Re: Play it at a kiosk? Post impressions here!!

My Best Buy finally got it. I got to play like ten minutes max, about four minutes was checking out options.

I didn't get to bask in many positives, for the big reason that for some reason this game was in 480p. I asked an employee about switching the resolution, but they said the system was in Demonstration Mode and couldn't be switched, which sucked big time.

Overall, the game feels like an upgrade. The same stuff, but everything upgrade. I can't wait to check out all of the bells and whistles for myself when I own this for myself on Friday, but I got to see some of the little things like the fans reaching over the fence, check swing appeals, and the new onslaught of customizable options.

The broadcast camera is one of the greater new additions, but already I'm telling myself that I can't wait to see what they do with it next year in terms of raising it and keeping it centered. Otherwise, it looks and plays very nicely, and I see myself using that all year.

The game played much smoother framerate-wise when I was playing at AT&T Park at night, and I can imagine that being seen much easier on my own HDTV when I'm actually in 720p. Pablo Sandoval looks much better, and I'm sure there are many more people to look at as well.

The one turnoff this game has that it didn't have last year are the new ball-ground physics and friction, particularly with the grass and walls. I know that people are happy they'll be able to hit doubles down the line now, but the way it hits is far beyond unrealistic, and I know now for myself after playing the game that this is a certainty. I popped in Home Run Derby for just one round, and I got to notice how high the ball would scorch off the ground and how far it would ricochet off walls. It was actually embarrassing in a way... I was there with my friend, who's only a Dodgers fan at heart but otherwise isn't too phased with the sport itself, and he saw right off the bat (no pun intended) that the ball was flying all over the place like it was nobody's business. I only hope he wouldn't see it so I wouldn't make any mention of it, but then he was saying things like, "What is this, a rubber ball on cement?" At last I admitted to myself that it's bad, and I really hope it's worked on next year.

So far that's my only turnoff, and everything else looks like it will be a great game of baseball. Another great upside is it looks like swings are even more responsive this time around, either that or I'm so used to the lag on my TV that this one was just better in comparison.

                      Can't wait till Friday!

If I remember right it was in the Presentations options not Audio/Video.
The default is Broadcast, then there's RTP w/ Replays and just RTP I think.

You have to change it into the options. When i went it was also not on the RTP and i went through a couple innings and was like WTF this is the same view. I then changed it and was amazed at how cool even singles looked with RTP

Next year? If this is as serious as you're letting on, I can't see why they couldn't just patch it. Seems like it would be a fairly simple tweak. "Tuned ball physics - balls will now behave more realistically when bouncing off the environment." Doesn't seem out of line with any other patch note I've seen for sports games.

I doubt it is going to get patched and try it yourself before hitting the panic alarm.

                                Working...
