Re: MLB 10 THE SHOW FRANCHISE PROGRESS THREAD

After being 16-16 I've now won 13 in a row to be at 29-16 with a 5 game lead in the West. I just came back to beat the Cardinals 7-4 in 10 innings and just moved up to all star for hitting, so I will see how that goes, but all star on pitching is perfect because I let up enough runs where it doesn't feel crazy.

Matsui is a straight beast hitting .365 with 12 HRs 29 RBIs.
Kazmir is my ace at 7-1 with a 2.05 ERA. Joe Saunders is horrible with a 1-5 record and 6.64 ERA.
My biggest surprise is Jason Bulger. The dude is unhittable, in 20 games he has a .85 ERA. Its crazy.

Re: MLB 10 THE SHOW FRANCHISE PROGRESS THREAD

I finished the AL portion of my schedule strongly. Now I have 15 games against the NL and this should be a pretty intense playoff run. It's time to watch the standings and grind each game.

Also, with just shy of 50% of my season finished, it's time to edit some sliders for the first time. I am going to streamline my Giants with the 2009 Giants. I thought my pathetic power numbers were just me. Good god the 2009 Giants couldn't hit.

My rule with sliders will be only 1 adjustment in one direction for those I am changing.

Re: MLB 10 THE SHOW FRANCHISE PROGRESS THREAD

My A's have won two straight games, both 2-1 victories in extras. We are now 6 and 16, with two straight solid performances from each of my rotation, only to walk away with 6 losses and 4 no decisions. My offense is frankly offensive. Jack Cust is basically the determining factor as to whether I win a game or not. He has 8 home runs so far. The rest of my team is skirting the Mendoza line, with Davis, Crisp and Suzuki well below it. I am starting to think that I need to really mix up my lineup, bench some of my starters, or do something that will light a fire for my team. Even still, it looks like I am in serious rebuilding mode so I put Sheets, Duchscherer, Chavez, Kouz, and pretty much everyone in their final year on the block. I have to say that playing in Oakland is starting to feel realistic. The first week saw way too many home runs, but now I am seeing Meatballs end up on the warning track for both teams. Just as it should be with April night air in Oakland.

I have lost two straight. Both were starts by Lincecum & Cain. My offense went in the crapper. I downloaded a slider set from the slider vault, and my offense is getting better, and pitching tougher though on All-Star level.

I am 3rd in the west, just 1gb though, and like 5th in the wild card, 1.5gb.

I cannot tell you how much fun, and quick moving, and intense a 29-game schedule is.

Re: MLB 10 THE SHOW FRANCHISE PROGRESS THREAD

I have finished the first month. I don't remember off hand what my record is, but it is something like 8 or 9 wins and between 18-20 losses. I am last place in the division at 9.5 games back. First month and the season appears pretty hopeless. So I need some advice from other people that have or are currently playing with a terrible team in a hopeless situation.

            1. Should I just keep trucking along and pray for some spark that will turn my team around?

            2. Should I start looking to trade away high contracts in hopes of getting some young talent and hope next year is better?

            3. Should I start calling up AAA guys like Chris Carter or Michael Taylor and benching starters like Coco Crisp and his .145 avg?

              1. Truck along, but ease up on sliders, no sense enduring a .333 season when even a .450 season really gets you no where.

              2. Yes.

              3. Sucking with young prospects is more irritating than guys like Crisp. Only call them up if they can truly be productive.

I've started a franchise with the Giants and right now I'm 4-3 in seven games. Of two of those losses I have been shut out by Roy Oswalt and Tommy Hanson but in one of the wins I threw a complete game shut out with Tim Lincecum. The only problem is that both Sacnhez and Huff went on the DL, Sanchez with a broken finger and Huff with a sprained ligament in his knee.

Cannot hit to save my life in my franchise. Fantasy draft with the Blue Jays...17-14. Currently 2-2 after the 8th inning, stopped to watch hoops, and because a ball the White Sox hit was 10 feet foul and 10 feet short of a HR and it counted anyway...argh. Should be bringing Mariano in for the save, but meh. I'm last in most offensive categories.

Sanchez blows. I think he's hitting like .222 for me with a .223 slugging. I like to use Burress because he at least can steal some bases.

Thanks Pete. I really don't want to mess with the sliders too much, as other than the three guys I have hitting below .200, everyone else is right where they should be. Except perhaps Cust who already has 9 home runs the first month. And Davis keeps going slightly above and below .200, but he is in the tops in SB so far. I think that is one of my franchise goals. My pitching has been pretty solid after the first two weeks. The problem is my clutch and not the one in my jeep. I have a horrendous BA w/RISP.

Through the first 10 games of my season as the Dodgers Im sitting at 7-3 and in first place. My hitting is completely up and down at times but my pitching has saved me atleast once or twice already this season. In my last game I could only muster 5 hits total but thanks to drawing walks (5 to be exact) and the timely hitting of Manny Ramirez I was still able to win 6-1. Speaking of Manny, in my last game Todd Wellemeyer made me look like a fool on a curve that I was light years ahead of so I decided to sit back and wait on his next pitch and sure enough the guy tries to get another one by me and this one I deposited 445 feet out past the left-center wall. There is nothing more rewarding in this game then reading a pitch and just smashing it, just an awesome feeling.

I'm almost at the end of April in my Orioles franchise now. I play every game so it takes a while to get through a month of games.

My team is sitting at 9-10 right now after losing the last couple of games at Boston (Ortiz and Pedroia hit EVERYTHING). Like I thought before starting this franchise, my pitching is beyond terrible. I traded backup 1B Ty Wigginton to the Pirates (they need a 1B) for SP Daniel McCutchen and RP Evan Meek to try and shore up my pitching rotation/bullpen. I wanted McCutchen to spend some time in AAA ball, he's only a young rookie, but Brian Matusz on my MLB team broke his forearm in his second start and is out for 2 months. So McCutchen is my 5th starter and he's not very good. Neither is my 4th starter, 3rd starter, or 2nd starter. Millwood is my only decent pitcher.

Hitting wise I couldn't ask for a better squad. I'm 5th in batting average, 7th in hits, and in the top 10 in pretty much every other hitting catergory. Markakis, surprisingly, is my only struggling hitter.

I'm thinking by the trade deadline I might ship out Markakis or Brian Roberts for some young stud pitcher. I don't want to but I really need some pitching to be competitive down the road. Boston is already running away in the division at 15-4. The Yanks are in last which is hilarious/awesome.

I split my 2 games today, I am now on Hall of Fame pitching, and Veteran hitting.

I did the magic numbers for the Padres who lead the division, and the Brewers who lead the wild card, I only did them against my Gigantes. The padres are at 7 with 9 games to go, and the Brewers are at 8.

I with a good run down the stretch I can make the playoffs. The only two teams in baseball who have been mathematically eliminated from the playoffs are the Dodgers and Blue Jays. I was going to try to swing a deal for Manny, but he's injured.

In the offseason I am going to target some legit big time power at either 3B or LF, and I need better middle relief.

Well apparently I can't win now. Things were going great to start the year, I was 10-3 and only a couple of blowouts prevented me from basically winning every game I played. Now though it seems like whatever I do, I end up losing. I was 11-4 and about to go on a 7 game road trip to New York and St. Louis. I lost two out of three to New York and I've lost the first two games to St. Louis, neither game has been close. I'm making silly errors, not pitching well, and doing absolutely nothing offensively. Not to mention I lost Chipper for a couple of games due to a lower back strain.

So after a hot start I'm now 12-8 and 1-4 on this road trip. I guess that's baseball though, right?

I have got to find a left handed started for my rotation. Put out some fillers, but thus far no one is interested.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
