The Red Sox just put Lester and Varitek on the block. Both haven't faired too well with the Sox. Lester has an ERA near 6 and Tek is batting like .059. I am the Rangers and am considering offering SP Derek Holland (A Pot, sub-3 ERA in AAA) and 1B Chris Davis (B Pot) for the two. Ryan Garko is fairing very well for me so he would lock up full time 1B duties instead of platooning it. This would also free up room for Smoak later on. Tek would back up Salty and I'd send Teagarden to AAA (he's only hitting .122 for me).

      Thoughts??

I'd go after Lester but I wouldn't worry about Varitek.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Couldn't find an arrangement with the Sox that worked both ways. Here is another one:

Nats put Dunn, SP Scott Olsen, and RP Jason Bergmann (C Pot) on the block. Dunn is having a normal year, Olsen and Bergmann above average years. Looks like they're dumping salary as all contracts are up. They're seeking RP, CP, OF. I'm offering Frank Francisco and Nelson Cruz, both of which I'm struggling with. They're interest level is very high.

Also considering the combination of Dunn and Bergmann for Francisco and Davis. I would eventually have to move Davis anyways as there really wouldn't be room for him in the organization and I could keep Cruz in RF. Also am more in need of help in the bullpen, my starting pitching is ok but bullpen is horrendous in a couple of areas, Francisco being a big one. Interest level high here too.

          Thoughts on either?

The Rays trade David Price and Carl Crawford to the Cardinals for Chris Carpenter and Ryan Ludwick. I wonder who got the better end of the deal here?

I'm currently 5-5 in my Dodgers franchise. I decided to trade Manny because his batting average was pretty low and even though it's early in the season he wasn't getting it done for me. I was able to trade him for Carlos Lee I haven't played the first game since the trade yet but I'm hoping it pays off he has a way higher batting average and has 4 home runs on the season and Manny had 0 for me.

The Red Sox will pretty much give Ortiz away for nothing. I picked up Russell Branyon from the free agent list and was able to trade him for Ortiz straight up. It's not an unfair trade at all since they're both:

                - Slow
                - Left handed power hitters
                - First baseman
                - One dimensional

I just hit better with Ortiz than Branyon. If Branyon connects on a meatball, it'll be 425+ feet away when it lands. He has amazing power. His batting stance is just weird to me. If you're a Big Papi fan, just sign Branyon from free agency and trade him to Boston. It may take Branyon and a so so player, but you can get Ortiz.

More trades. There shouldn't be that many unless some trades end up going through after the deadline

7-22 Reds trade 1B Yonder Alonso to the Diamondbacks for 3B Bobby Borchering

7-23 Reds trade SP Johnny Cueto to the Mariners for 1B Dustin Ackley, SP Danny Cortes and SP Andres Esquibel ( I am not too happy with this trade, as I don't need the Mariner's to get even more pitching that will keep them on top of the division)

7-26 Red Sox trade 1B Aaron Bates to the Diamondbacks for RP Bob Howry

                    Re: **All Trades Discussion Thread**

OK guys, I need your help.

With my beloved D'backs, I'm currently sitting to a 30-11 record (1st in the NL West).

But I'm officially tired of Brandon Webb.
                    10 starts; 1-3; 5.50 ERA; 3 QS; 1.65 WHIP; 35 BB...

So I want to make a fair trade and I can include catcher Chris Snyder and eventually 1B Adam Laroche.

Webb's contract expires at the end of the season so I will trade him to a contender.

The "perfect" team to make a trade with seems to be the Red Sox as they got another SP (Beckett is cold 6+ ERA and Lackey is on the DL) and a C, affordable, who can play defense (not difficult to play better defense than Martinez!)

So I eventually put this trade:
Me offering: SP Webb + C Snyder
Boston sending : SP Bucholz + ??? (Ellsbury?)

                    not that fair?

I have tried another options :
                    Me offering: SP Webb + C Snyder + 1B A. Laroche
Boston sending : 1B Youk (nonsense)
                    or
Boston sending : SP Beckett (I don't see them let Beckett go!)

Any ideas? Even with other team! (I've thought trading with Tampa, especially since Garza and Price are on the DL but I also feel to be unfair)

My goal is to get a SP who will join the rotation and a speedy player (i'd rather have an infielder than an OF but I'll take what I can get)

                    Thx guys.

If Beckett is pitching with over a 6 era, Boston might want to get rid of him. Just don't overpay for anyone. Remember that it is a game and because of that the attributes are more important than the player themselves. There is no hustle attribute, or leadership, or intangibles. If the CPU thinks it is a fair trade, who are you to argue with their GM? Besides, if you have followed baseball as long as I have, you will remember some really bad trades as well as some trades that look great but turned out bad and some trades that looked terrible but turned out great.

Deadline around the corner, two trades came off on the same day (first so far in my franchise)

7-28 Philles trade SP Aaron Poreda to the Angels for RP Jason Bulger. The Angels are really putting together a firesale this season.

Twins trade RP Loek Van Miller, SP Francisco Liriano and CP Anthony Slama to the Reds for RP Arthur Rhodes. The Reds are also putting up a fire sale, but unlike the Angels, they seem to be getting great deals. I see them challenging in the next couple of years with some of the talent they picked up this year.

As a Cardinal fan it's been pretty hilarious seeing the laughable moves they've been making during my RTTS career. Here's a roundup of some things that have happened so far:

                          1. Lets Pujols go in free agency after the first season (why are the contracts in this game so inaccurate anyway?) He ends up with a smaller contract with (wait for it, big surprise coming) the Yankees.
                          2. They sign Carl Crawford to a 3 year contract despite already having Matt Holliday in LF.
                          3. Has both Holliday and Crawford up on the trading block in 2/7 and 1/3 of their respective contracts.
                          4. Has Chris Carpenter up on the trading block. What are they seeking? Starting pitching.

I am pretty sure the patch did not address trade logic. The only way to "fix" this would be to attach players to certain teams, or have a team likability rating. That or turn down the trades to where you see little or no trades. I really haven't seen very many bad trades when I take into consideration that certain teams are our of the hunt while others are in a win now state of mind. If the Yankees were at the bottom of the league and were to trade Jeter for some A potential prospects, it would only seem weird because it was Jeter and of course it was the deep pocket Yankees. Otherwise, it would be an overpaid veteran in the last year of their contract being shipped away from a bad team in exchange for prospects to bolster the future. You see that happen all the time.

In mid-June, in my Braves franchise, I made the following trade with the Cubs:

                                Braves receive:

                                SP Ryan Dempster
                                IF/OF Jeff Baker

                                Cubs receive:

                                IF Omar Infante
                                C Christian Betancourt
                                SP Zeke Spruill

Overall, I am ecstatic with this trade, because I had a huge hole in my rotation due to Tim Hudson tearing his rotator cuff and going out for the year (how realistic) and getting Dempster should really help in that regard. Also, being a student at Clemson University, Baker is one of my favorite players so getting him in the deal was great as well. You really can't ask for much for from a national league utility player - the guy can play every position.

Meanwhile, the Cubs get a great catching prospect, a good starting pitcher prospect, and a very good second baseman. They are lagging pretty far behind the Cardinals and Reds in my franchise so this seemed like a realistic trade for them, in my opinion, and it was a tough one to negotiate.
