Re: If you were the GM of the Giants, would you make this trade?

Crawford is a dynamic leadoff man but the way this game is programmed you don't know whether you can sign him in the off season.

As Pittsburgh I picked up Crawford as a free agent, then traded him for Ellsbury.

I am a little confused about this. Can you elaborate more on what you are saying here? I haven't gotten to the post season yet, so I don't know exactly what you are seeing. Thanks

I'm now in the month of June and the trade deadline is nearing, I think I'm going to make the trade. I'm in a position to make the playoffs this season so I need all the help that I can get. I hate to trade a promising prospect, especially one at catcher, but I figure I can always move Kung Fu Panda over to that position. I'll just have to sign a free agent during the off-season to fill the position at 3rd base. My only concern is that I have a lot of expiring contracts: Tim Lincecum, Pablo Sandavol, Matt Cain, Brian Wilson and Adrian Gonzalez. I don't know if I'll be able to resign everyone, including Carl Crawford, but I'll cross that bridge when I get there.

          Trade for Prince Fielder

What would be a fair trade offer for Prince Fielder from the Angels. I think Bobby Abreu will be in the offer as well as Joe Saunders.

Brewers would have zero interest in Abreu. Saunders would likely interest them as a lower piece of the puzzle as he is more a #3 starter than anything. Brewers are going to be asking for at least one A potential young pitcher who is close to MLB ready, and likely a few B potential types. Probably close to what Halladay netted with Drabek the main piece and decent others.

When Fielder gets traded- McGehee or Gamel would be the 1B then. The Brewers have enough shady defenders that i don't think they'll go out of their way to force a 1B back in a deal unless they have too. I think it will be Gamel.

Whatever you end up doing, it should cost you alot. Your getting a legit all star hitter who is young.

It will be interesting to see where he really goes. I have read rumors it might be to SF for Cain but i assume that is just reporters guessing.

I can't wait to see what really happens with Prince. I'm a huge Brewers fan and I just don't see them spending 25MM on one guy. I do see Gamel taking over at first since it looks like Casey has third.

I have seen rumors about Prince going to Boston for some pitching, including Clay Bucholtz.

Atlanta needs to ship Jordan Schafer and Freddie Freeman + some pitching to Milwaukee for him.

I can't remember where, but I remember hearing a pundit once say a Kendry Morales for Prince Fielder trade made sense in real life. So, there's that.

I just heard that somewhere. Haven't really thought about whether or not it actually makes sense.

Lowell or Beltre - Who Should I Trade For?

This is part of a larger trade that is designed to get Mike Cameron. I'm Colorado and both of my CF's are out for the year (Gonzalez and Fowler both tore ACL's).

The only way I get this trade to go through is to take either Lowell or Beltre back. It is basically a salary dump, even though the Sox wouldn't need to do that in real life. Either one is an upgrade over the Stewart/Mora platoon I have been using.

Anyway, which one of the these guys do I want in the trade? I don't care about Lowell's age, as I doubt I get in more than one season.

I'd like to hear from anybody who has played with these two, most likely in a Sox franchise. Lowell appears to be a far better hitter, but Beltre is the better fielder.

Thanks in advance for the help guys!

i would say lowell if age isnt a concern... beltre virtually stands on the plate so he is hard for me to hit with.

I'd take it in a heartbeat. If you are worried about C behind Molina, try to get the Rays to throw in one of their two (Shoppach or Navarro). I know neither is great, but they are servicable backups who won't kill you if they have to play.

I look at it like this - I'm a huge Cubs fan, and I remember how touted both Patterson and Pie were coming up, not to mention the countless other can't-miss guys we have had. How many have panned out?

I am a big believer in getting proven talent over unknown guys. Posey may go to TB and become a star, but Crawford is ALREADY a star. He will instantly make your team better.

If you feel you can truly win your division, go get Crawford. Don't even hesitate.

Thanks for the advice on Beltre. I have trouble hitting with guys who stand strangely at the plate, so that is a huge thing for me to know.

Does Lowell tire easily? I didn't know if being older would make him only be able to play like 4 games a week. I need a full-time 3B to make either Stewart or Mora a full-time backup (the other will be in this trade).

                          Thanks again for the help.

Being a Yankee's guy... I would say Lowell also... That guy's clutch hitting kills me!!! Plus he is still good at 3B. I played with the M's last season... and Beltre is very difficult to hit with imo.

I'd say Beltre, but considering I can't hit to save my life with him, maybe Mikey Lowell?!

Brewers get: Brandon Wood, Ervin Santana, Erik Aybar, Joe Saunders

                                Angels get: Fielder

And even THAT might not be enough. Wood has done NOTHING to legitimize himself as a big leaguer, and Saunders is who he is...a soft-tossing lefty who should be a #4 or #5 starter in a big league rotation.
