One of these days computer generated voices will be good enough to the point where you could record one person's speech just saying a few different phrases and the computer can then generate any speech available. This way, developers could take some small voice recordings, throw it into the speech synthesizer, feed the computer some lines with notations about emphasis, and the computer would be able to go ahead and create the speech. This would allow developers to really be able to do anything with the speech in a game. Maybe even in future consoles, the processors would be powerful enough that the game would be able to generate the speech on the fly and the devs would only need to put the script in the game. The end-user could then generate their own scripts with pronunciation for things like player names, umpire names, etc. Ahhhh, the dreams of the future.

I'm just hoping that this year my last name was able to make it in there with regards to the audio. I know I submitted it last year, but didn't really follow-up on it this year. My last name is pronounced nothing like it is spelled, and is also incredibly uncommon, so I'm not really expecting it and won't be disappointed if it's not in there. (With my last name, if somebody else has it they are 100% definitely related to me. It's because way back when my great-grandparents emigrated over here from Lithuania their Lithuanian name was butchered in the spelling over at Ellis Island so anybody in the world with my last name spelled the same way is indeed a relative of mine).

Indeed audio is a difficult thing to do. Plus there is always a constant fight for memory in the development side of things. It is getting there, and I can tell they want to focus on it really hard.

As for last name, something came up where they could not add any from the list taken last year, even mine is not in it

But they did assure us they will be adding them next year!

I know what you mean, but let me tell you, the changes made to '11 are probably the biggest this series has ever seen. It is that good.

I may have asked this already and if so please fogive me, but has how the cpu handles lefty/righty matchups both pitching/hitting been tweaked at all? I know most of this issue was because of the cpu's use of bullpen logic, but since that has been tweaked, I was wondering if the cpu was more aware of "matchups" such as using left handed specialist?

          Thanks in advance.

The Astros completed construction on the new state-of-the art, high-definition video board yesterday. Will that make in the game this year for minute maid park or will it be next year?

We will lead the Lithuanian revolution, brother! I put my name in the thread at some point in the past as well, but I'm not expecting it. I think the guys said they weren't able to add more names since the audio crew & talent were busy adding Karros and more content for Matt & Dave.

EDIT: Ha! Forgot my question... I was playing '10 the other night when I was reminded of something that always bugged me. Neil Walker hit a rope between 1st & 2nd, bouncing a few feet before the dirt. Ryan Howard was able to take 3 steps and dive to make a spectacular play (obviously not holding a runner). This ball was smoked... even a Texeira or Pujols level fielder likely wouldn't have come close, but I'd have an easier time believing it.

So the question is, did you guys see any similar situations at the event, and if so, what was the result? In a more general sense, will the fielding refinements and new ratings better distinguish ability? I know the animation system is now "tiered", but Howard's play didn't really require a fancy animation, just amazingly quick reactions and far too much range.

I'm hoping this stuff will be curbed, as it's one of the few things about the game that doesn't give me a "this is real baseball" feeling.

In the games I played the diving by the CPU seemed to be toned down quite a bit. That is not to say it will not happen but the ratings work-over seems to be separating players ability a lot better. Now with that said you are not going to see dramatic differences right away when you first play. As you play with your team and face opponents you will see the ratings unfold. It is actually done very well imo.

Which thread do we put our last name in to get it in the game? I remember seeing it in years past, but didnt see it at all this year. My last name is so common and some schools actually have it in their name, yet The Show, Madden, NCAA never have it in there, though they say the actual word about 4890238 times.

Music to my ears. I don't mind saying that the fielding for this series has been somewhere between barely passable and atrocious. I am so excited to see how well they did it this year. And since I play several hundred games a year, I should be able to see just about every type of fielder and animation available. Outstanding!

I can't remember if this has been asked and/or answered yet so I will just ask again. If you play 30 team control, do you have to draft for every team again this year?

Little question for you Nemesis : when controlling a fielder in '10, controlled player didn't have enough momentum or inertia. You can quickly move right-left-up-down and change direction unrealistically. When compromise in one direction, going the opposite way should take a while and based on player attributes. Is '11 doing a better job ?

                          thx

When will more stadium screenshots be posted cause for some stadiums(like rogers centre) the only pic posted for it was just the scoreboard. I wanna see other things such as if they added the luxury field level seats at rogers centre, fixed up the seat colors around home plate, added the level of excellence names to the rogers centre like Joe Carter, Tony Fernandez and others.
