Re: Ok Show fans, to what level of baseball have you played?

I was on a Division III team in college, but I got hurt during fall practice (shoulder and I'm a pitcher). I ended up transferring after my first semester (personal reasons--kinda just didn't like the city I was in). Transferred to a school that doesn't have a baseball team. Stayed out of baseball last year so I could get fully healthy (still not quite there yet), but I'm intending on playing independent ball or in a semi-pro league back home next season.

I've also been an assistant coach at a junior high school for the past four years (since my junior year of high school).

      Also who voted MLB lol
Major leaguers do play the game. I thought it was common knowledge. Kind of the same way NFL players play Madden and NBA players play 2k.

Dominated in little league. Never played high school baseball coach wouldn't let me, because in little league I played for another town. So I was black balled big time. Play a little in Jr College in a summer league. I think if I played in high school I could have gone pretty far. I could really rake that ball and had a cannon for an arm. And a lot of people that I was better then made it to the majors, so you never know. But I liked football better I just was better at baseball.

no problem. I thought it would be cool to see the results.

And if you still want to play, then don't quit. Keep going, because when your time is gone, its gone.

Re: Ok Show fans, to what level of baseball have you played?

I played every level of baseball growing up. T-Ball, coach pitch, pitching machine, kid pitch, middle school, Junior Varsity, and then Varsity. I was too dumb to care about school so I never had the grades to get a scholarship or anything like that. Father was in the military and got orders to Italy a month after I graduated HS. So it was either struggle to find a place to live and no job or go to Italy. Went to Italy and then joined the military myself. I now play Intramural softball.

Good luck to the guys who are still young enough to pursue their dreams of a Pro Career. If you are in school, trust me... School matters. Focus on it and get yourself a full ride scholarship.

Re: Ok Show fans, to what level of baseball have you played?

I put high school but did not finish high school out because of financial issues on our farm so I quit to work on the farm my Junior year. It was kind of funny I had to lie to my family and say I was not going to be a starter so I had a reason to quit because they were very upset and would not let me quit otherwise. They thought I was on drugs and really grilled me on them. I finally a few years out told my mom the truth but never did tell my grandparents because it would have broke their heart knowing what I did for the farm.
I actually had umpires that had been minor league umps tell my family when I was probably 13 years old for me to stick with it because they had never saw a kid my age that had so much command and had so much movement on my breaking pitches. Being a lefty I had a tremendous curve. The umps felt I had a bright future and they could see me pitching professionally. I don't know if it would have ever happened but it was nice to hear that anyway.

I want to echo what PMG stated about grades to play and I want to express to the youngsters on here to cherish and enjoy the game while you play. For me, the time is over, unless I play rec league. But I often think back to when I played and everytime, it puts a smile on my face. Some of the best times of my life travelling with the boys from school to school to play.

I am sorry that you had to give up your dreams due to financial issues within your family's farm, but highly commend you for doing so. Not too many teenagers that would put family first before there own selfish wants/needs.

Again, hate when people are forced to stop playing for one reason or another, but again, I commend you for being a man at that age.

Myself, I started in T-Ball and went all the way through college. Played at a small NAIA school. Really wanted to continue my playing career, but am grateful to have made it as far as I did, although major college ball was a dream(as well as professional).

So, how about you? Lets share some glory day moments when we were the boys of summer.

BTW..I'm going to make this a poll. I'm really curious to see what the results are.

                    EDIT: Please be honest.
I selected the first option because I'm in a 25 and older rec league. You do not consider that organized baseball?

No I do, I just combined the two options. Didn't mean to step on toes.

Thanks CB, I always wonder what might have been but farming always came first then sports, then girls,LOL in that order too. We ended up having to sell the farm anyway so that kind of shot my future all to hell anyway. My wife has often told me to go back to school so i could be a basketball or baseball coach but I hated school and the thought of that just really sucks. maybe 1 day i will get lucky someday and someone will give me a shot anyway. I guess I can dream but there always MLB the show where I can call the shots, lol.

I am grateful and happy for the life I have now with my wife and kid, but I tell you man. If there was one thing I wish I would have done better in, it was school. I doubt I would have got very far in any sort of major league level because i'm only 5'8. However, just like you, playing the game of baseball puts a smile on my face. I will play some sort of hardball for as long as I can. I want to be that old guy on the softball field that people are scared of because they know that i've been playing for a LONG time lol. I hope my son grows up to be taller than me. I can teach him everything I know and hopefully get him focused on school. Then he can make dad a happy man

                            Good thread CB!

Personally, I've loved baseball for as long as I can remember. I played from t-ball through 4 years of varsity ball in high school. I was the team captain my last 2 years... not saying much since my high school wasnt big on baseball, so needless to say, we pretty much sucked LOL.

Even tho baseball was, and still is my favorite sport, I received more accolades on the grid iron (played 3 yrs of college football.) My college was a big hockey school, and didn't even have a baseball team, or else I probably would have pursued it further.

At 35, I still enjoy going to the batting cages. Haven't tried any rec leagues or anything tho.

Man, I played Junior College ball for two years as a utility player (had about 150 PA in my 2 years). I played SS, 2B, and 3B and tried out for UCR. My fondest memory was playing catch with James Simmons a few times. Man did my hand hurt the first time I played catch with him. It was bruised for like a freaking week. Never did see the field with the highlanders unfortunately, but playing catch with him was perhaps the highlight my career
