Played minor league ball in the Gulf Coast League for the Montreal Expos back in 2000 and was cut the following year in Spring Training. It was a great experience and got to play with Grady Sizemore. He was 17 yrs old right out of high school and signed with the Expos that year.Comment

Played through HS. Never played at the level where going beyond that was realistic. But I've wasted hours and $$$ in batting cages ever since though.
One thing about baseball (softball/cricket excluded) is it's not very easy to find environment to play casually. Not like soccer or basketball. I think that's one of the reasons why the sport hasn't permeated to other parts of the world.Comment

Re: Ok Show fans, to what level of baseball have you played?
Captain of high school baseball team (shortstop)
Played semi-pro ball for a few years after school
Had tryouts with Yanks and Blue Jays back in the mid 70's (I am 55 in March)
Didn't make it but got to play in Yankee stadium which was incredible. Rotator cuff killed my arm and back surgery killed my flexibility. End of story.
Played against Lee Mazzilli when he was on an Allstar team in Brooklyn when he was about 18. Also, played with Phil Linz (former Yankee) in an over-30 league back in the late 80's.
Don't give up the dream. Keep going til your body says "no more"...

Re: Ok Show fans, to what level of baseball have you played?
Wow we have alot of talent here. Great posts guys.
My love for baseball started along time ago when I was 7 years old and I still have the same feelings for the game at 64 years young. I only played Short Stop, 3Rd Base a little 2nd Base and Pitched.
4 years of little League.
3 years of Babe Ruth League
1 year of Junior Varsity
1 year of Fresh/Soph
2 years of Varsity
several summer leagues
2 years ARMY Ball
Baseball helped me in many ways. I didn't have a easy time at home and had many fights growing up. Baseball was a good vent to my anger.
I could hit the ball and throw the ball as hard as I wanted to.
A few memories:
In Little League I had a 667 Batting Average and was the only 10 year old guy to make the All-Stars in the 25 years our league was in existence. Previously every one had been 12 years old.
When your a kid and told that you are worthless everyday of your life it gives you that little extra something.
When I was 11 or 12 I almost pitched a perfect game. In 5 1/3 innings no one had reached first base.
We had a rule that everyone had to play at least one inning so our Manager had to replace our first string Right Fielder with a kid who couldn't catch the little fly ball that was hit right to him. The poor kid took three steps back and waited for it to bounce.
I struck out the next two players and ended-up with a one hitter. All I threw was a 4 seam fastball. I was blessed with a good arm.
When I was in Babe Ruth I was the lead-off hitter facing a guy that had a 3 ft. Roundhouse curve a guy with a big reputation who the scouts were checking out. He took a look at me ( I was 12 and turned 13 at the end of the season and hadn't started growing yet) and he turned to his fielders and waved them in. The challenge was on.
The first pitch he threw me was my favorite pitch it was an inside and low fastball everything was like slow motion and I instinctively knew I owned this pitch! I steeped into the Bucket and hit the ball harder and farther than I had ever hit one before. It was a home-run.
I felt like Jack the Dragon Slayer. I floated around the bases.
I don't remember what I did the rest of the game but I know the pitcher never called his fielders in again.

Re: Ok Show fans, to what level of baseball have you played?
I played little league from kindergarten through fifth grade. Did some travel teams and all-star stuff, too. I usually played first base, but also did a little "on-the-spot" pitching.
I'm a lefty, which is why I got so much time at first, I guess. Although I bat right. A throws left/bats right combo isn't exactly what the scouts are lookin' for.
On one of my all-star teams, we had a double header, and as we're getting ready for the second game, my coach comes over and tells me I'm the starting pitcher. Well, I'm not exactly sure what he was thinking, because I'd never pitched in my life. I got through the first three innings, only giving up two runs, but it was basically dumb luck. I'd get a couple pitches over the plate, here and there, but I was mostly throwing balls because I didn't wanna hit the batters. I was just lucky some of them swung at bad pitches and either struck out or hit into double plays. I was terrified, haha.
Anyway, I ended up playing hockey throughout middle school, which I regret in retrospect. It was fun, but I ended up wanting to play baseball again, but wasn't good enough to make the high school team after three years of no practice.Comment

Re: Ok Show fans, to what level of baseball have you played?
I picked high school cuz im currently playing high school ball. This will be second year as a starting pitcher. From what i understand im our ace, i have a mid 80's fastball which isnt much these days for a 17 year old, but my control with it is very good. My change is my go to pitch, it honestly cant be hit if i throw it right. I HOPE to play college ball, probably at a D3 school, maybe D2 if i play my cards right.
Originally, when i was applying to college i thought i didnt care if i played or not in college, but after this fall i realized i really really want to, so hopefully that works out.My Newport Falcons Football Dynasty (Teambuilder) (CFB25)

Re: Ok Show fans, to what level of baseball have you played?
Baseball was my first love as a kid. Started out in t-ball and played little league up till I was 12. Then I missed 2 consecutive summers because of appendicitis and spending a summer at my dads (out of state). Played the next year which was my last year of little league. Made the all-star team but realized my skills had diminished from missing the two previous years.
Then I played 1 year of high school and just wasnt as good as I wanted/needed to be. Also at the time, I had come to love basketball and eventually quit baseball to put my focus into that. Played hoops all through high school and wasnt really into baseball anymore. I still watched it and pulled for my Indians, but basketball was all I cared about for a couple years.
Then I went on to college at a DII school and got offered a paid tuition job to be the manager for the baseball team. I took it and it was probably one of the best things I could ever do. I fell back in love with the sport and learned so much more about it from being around it at the college level. Basketball is still my main sport that I play, but baseball is the sport that I follow and obsess over more than ever. Cant wait to get the season started! digitally and in real life!!Comment
