It plays the same role this year in zone hitting, except this time around at higher difficulties it pretty much represents the ENTIRE contact zone for a hitter. In other words, on HOF or Legend if you swing at a pitch that you didn't cover with the PCI, you're very likely to swing and miss. In previous years you could still foul it if your timing was good enough.

It has one other purpose this year too - to serve as a visual indication of your step timing in analog hitting. If your timing is perfect, it will get larger (representing a better chance to make contact). If your timing is okay, it'll do nothing. If your timing is poor, it will shrink (representing a decreased contact chance).

I think the 3 different swings (power, contact, and normal) also affect the PCI, but I haven't messed around with them much yet.
Wow thanks for the detailed explanation. I appreciate it.

Re: MLB 11 The Show Demo Q&A, discussion thread

I just want to preface this question with this:

I NEVER read through the bugs and glitches threads, I NEVER ask about bugs or glitches, and I have NEVER ever seen a bug or glitch rear it's ugly little head in person...ever!!!...Okay, the last one is a stretch, but the sentence sounded a little too brief without it.

So, the count is 3-2 and on the 7th pitch of the AB (I fouled off a pitch), I successfully win a check swing appeal for ball 4. Except, it's not ball 4. The count remains 3-2 and I'm forced to take another pitch. For a K I might add. Love the learning curve, by the way!!!

Anyway, I realize this is an early build, but I have not idea if these sort of things have the ability to make it into the final build or not, so I figured I'd post it just to be safe.

Has anyone else seen this or was i just wrong on the count...99.9 % I'm not wrong, but, I could just be going crazy.

Question about influencing your hit for analog.

I know that the demo had the wrong control for this, and that you are supposed to use the right analog stick for selecting which way to influence it, but I seem to only have the control vibrate when I infulence a ground ball or fly ball, and not to the 1st or 3rd base lines. Is that no longer available?

Okay, before playing MLB 11, the only experience I had with analog hitting was primarily with MVP NCAA 06 and a little bit of the 2k series. Is the analog in "The Show" similar to the MVP series where you can influence the direction of the hit or is it random or timing based?

Hey guys, apologies if this has been asked.

One of the things I loved about meter pitching was that I could influence how hard I threw the pitch by holding the X button for different periods of time. (Hold it all the way till the end of the meter to throw it hard, hit it before the end to not throw it as hard.) Or maybe I just thought I was doing something when I really wasn't.

Is there any way to do that with analog pitching? Does it matter how hard I flick the stick? How long I hold the stick when I push it forward? I notice the meter moves forward at varying degrees of speed, can't figure out why.

Yeah, just push the stick up faster.

Something I would like added during warmup pitches now though is the ability to go back and from stretch - windup during warmups.

                Something for wish list....
Yes, I really wish Sony would implement this. I hate meters but I'm loving the analog pitching. It would be great if we could just use the pitcher's arm as the meter! The less clutter on the screen and the more it looks like a real broadcast the better it makes the game.

Is there a way to make the meter smaller in the demo????

Re: MLB 11 The Show Demo Q&A, discussion thread

sorry if this has been asked but i am having a difficult time with hitting, and am a show rookie from 10.

IN MVP the left stick was used to aim to the part of the field you wanted to hit. top left meant you were trying to go deep to left, top right you were trying to go deep right etc etc.

in SHOW 10, you used the right stick to point to where you wanted the ball to go then you swung.

in SHOW 11, has this been removed? i am aiming with my left stick (using classic controls not analog) but my results don't seem to match my aim.

any info on the hitting system would be SO helpful so i dont have to play on rookie to get hits

Is there anyway to get rid of the contact/regular/power swing and the guess pitch icons on the bottom corners of the screen while batting? Those are really annoying and if they didn't give us the option I don't get why. They just become an eye sore.

Contact swing is more of a defensive swing... Defensive is a bad word actually...

Think of it as a great option when you are behind in the count. Your PCI will increase in size, enabling you to foul off tough pitches to stay alive.

It also works well to put the ball in play when you want to move runners up a station.

I also plan on using it with Brett Gardner a lot.

However, using contact swing will drop your power attribute, so don't expect to go deep...even with an elite power hitter.

Normal swing, on the other hand seems to work similarly to how it did last year...except for the fact that I suck at hitting now. LOL!

Have you been using it for Andurs or Torres in the demo? I can't really seem to hit with either one of them right now lol. Been using normal swing. Didn't know if the contact may make them a little more likely to slap the ball around
