    Re: RTTS: Your pitchers pitches

I also have not had much luck with curve balls and have a tendency to hang them and the coomputer seems to take no time sending them over the fence.

By far my most effective strikeout pitch is Changeup or high heat above the zone. Occasionally low splitter will catch them but the hitters seem to get good wood on it too often.

The problem for me is that the speed of my circle change keeps increasing considerably. It is almost up to 89 and my 4 seam tops out at 97. I would prefer a double digit difference in the two.

Does anyone know if adding break to a four-seam fastball does anything?

It basically adds the 'pop' to the fastball making it a more lethal strikeout pitch.

To whomever said to always slide to the outside when stealing... THANK YOU x1000

Holy crep. I had never even considered the different ways of sliding, I just knew head-first and feet-first. When I saw that suggested (too lazy to see exactly where, but many pages back) I finally checked out the controls and I've been stealing at a 90% clip... and all of those CS's are my bad on terrible jumps... even when I get off a crappy jump I make it most of the time.

I was about a 75 SPD, 50 BR and 35 BRA when I started getting steal signs and I was getting gunned about 60% of the time. Then I started going outside on my slides and I was stealing at about an 80% clip. Now I'm up to 81 SPD, 61, BR and 40 BRA and I'm safe about 90% of the time.

Amazing difference. This is all to 2nd base btw, I haven't had much success when I get crazy and try for 3rd (which I rarely do). To 2nd is almost automatic outside of a horrendous jump or a PO.

It doesn't do anything to the fastball itself, but it helps the overall average of "break" for all of your pitches, thus making their break better. It also helps the secondary stat (K/9, I think?).

Re: MLB 11 "Road To The Show" thread

              Hey guys,
First post here. I have a SP that is playing for the Phillies AA club. He is dominating the competition, completeing 100% of his goals every cycle, getting accolades from the GM every two games about being lights out, getting manager e-mails about giving the team the outs they need when they need them blah blah blah blah....

Anyway, last night, I had a career game, well, as carrer as it can be being a 1/4 of the way through my rookie year. 9.0IP, 3H, 0BB, 0ER, 9SO. I get to the post game and my GM sends me this message because I also just finished another set of goals 100% including the .990 fielding that they required.

This is the message although a bit paraphrased. "You're ready! I don't know what the guys upstairs are doing till 3AM but I am getting no sleep. Sorry, we are going to need more time."

What the heck is that? I have done everything asked of me and more and they won't even send me to AAA?

Please explain why this is happening and how long this is going to go on... I wouldn't mind if I was missing goals or whatever, that I would understand but they love me and still refuse to give me the nod.

              Any help is appreciated.

                Welcome aboard!

That kind of message usually means that there are better players ahead of you, by rating more so than performance. It's kind of a problem in that the game will not recognize your performance as much in considering promotion, it looks at your ratings.

Keep plugging away at it, although a word of warning - it WILL recognize your stats over your ratings when it comes to deciding to trade you. If it sees a player that is over-performing their ratings, they become prime trade material, the CPU is thinking to move you to another team before your performance regresses back to your ratings.

I suspect you'll get called up in mid-season. My AA SP was also dominating early, although not to the degree you are, and after being named to start the AA all-star game (and winning it), he was called up the day after. In fact, all of my RTTS guys that have reached the middle of the season have been called up to AAA except the one 3B guy that pretty much hit .200 the whole year (read back a page or two for the details of his first year).

Yeah nothing really happens super fast in RTTS unless it is an injury or you buy points and up your rating fast. I think they designed it so you would feel what most drafted prospects feel and go through roughly 2 years (sometimes more) of the minors before you make it. I mean legitimately not many prospects move up really fast...Bryce Harper is ripping up High A ball I believe and he is still there and not in AA yet either. It can definitely be frustrating though.

Thanks for the post. I didn't mean to sound like I was in a rush. Personally, I am fine playing the minors for a season or two to get my pitches and attributes up more. My 4SFB is clocking 92-93 consistently so I still got some work to do.

My rist RTTS pitcher was invited to the All Star game (we lost) but at the end of the season, I was promoted, I sim'd the first day and was dumped back into AA with a warning from the GM that I was basically crap and that he was going to kick me off the team. I really thought it was glitched so started over. I am afraid that is going to happen again.

I don't think a double digit difference is necessary. A hard change-up is still a change-up, it's still going to be effective.

I finished the 3rd season in RTTS, 2nd at the MLB service time. I finished with a 17-8 record and finished 2nd in Cy Young voting. All 5 of my pitches are at 90 or more and all /9 rating are at about 80. I also reached the top overall for pitchers. I was expecting another LTC offer from the Reds, but all I got was 1 year-1.0 million. Only got 1.1 years in MLB service time though. We'll see what happens next year.

I've got a righthander in my second year, in the AAA rotation right now. I throw a sinker in the low 90's, slider in the mid 80's, changeup in the low 80's, and 4-seam fastball in the low 90's. I rely pretty heavily on the sinker low, trying to get groundballs early in the count. I throw the 4-seamer high and out of the zone to try to change the batter's eye-level and get a decent amount of strike-outs or pop-ups w/ this. I use a backdoor slider and changeups low and away to lefty's, and sliders away to righty's.

I have a RHP CP who features a RFP, CC, and KC. I find it effective and I hated the slider I had with my last RTTS pitcher, so I opted for the KC which works well. I plan to add either a Cutter or 4Seam or maybe screwball.

I like the RFB since it runs in on righties and is the same break angle as my CC which I can use to torment hitters. I think what works best is to change speeds a lot, not necessarily having different angles and breaks. Just use whatever pitch you like to look at really and change speeds to be effective. They are AI hitters after all.

                                Over in my pitcher RttS:
2-time Cy Young Award winner. Full stamina and durability. Full pitching attributes. Staff ace. Pitching a no-hitter, in order because the 2 walks in separate innings were erased on 1st-pitch double plays. 82 pitches entering the 9th. 1-0 lead. First batter bunts for a hit. Manager immediately takes me out. Marmol gives up 4 runs. We lose.

SCEA, for MLB The Show 12, get rid of this dumb rule where the manager literally only uses the score to determine when to pull my pitcher. This is beyond dumb, it's INSANE. This happens constantly where if my team is leading by 3 runs or less, even if my energy and confidence are high and my pitch count low and I'm mowing down the opposition, one base-runner in the 7th or later, no matter how he reaches base I get taken out. This makes me want to smash the disk with a hammer.
