Re: MLB 11 "Road To The Show" thread

I'm going to start a career as a starting pitcher as a sinker/slider guy. What's a good complimentary third pitch for that combo?

I was thinking a circle change since it would mirror the movement of the sinker, but also tempted to go with a splitter. I'll probably add a fourth pitch in time, so I'm open to multiple suggestions...

Running fastball would be a good selection. Fast as 2/4 seam fastball, but it can have a lot of movement as well.

I'm hoping the Orioles trade B Rob before the trade deadline and that should at least get me to AAA. Actually I wouldn't mind them bringing me up at Short, come to think of it that would be even better!

            RTTS - Catcher Quick Play?

I'm about to start an RTTS and was considering catcher. Did they fix the problem last year where you were forced to participate in every play on defense? It would take forever to get to the majors if every game lasted 45 minutes.

??? It's not a problem; You play on defense when there is a ball coming to you. When you choose the catcher position a ball comes to you on every play. If you don't like calling a game then don't pick catcher. It's not a "problem with the game" lol.

So... is there any way to avoid being traded? A huge part of the fun in RttS was playing in the Rangers' farm system and trying to work my way up, but I don't want to play in Toronto... is there any way I can keep from being traded? Is my best option just to start over and hope I don't run into the same problem? Can I turn off CPU trades? Anything?

Thanks for answering my question. I respectfully disagree though regarding the catcher position in RTTS. There absolutely should be an option to vary your defensive responsibilities as a catcher. It was incredibly poor game design to "require" you to spend 85% of your time behind the plate with only the smallest control over the game. Some people will enjoy that. Most people won't. Catcher should have the same options as every other defensive position.

Just had a heck of a good game to start off the second year as a Angels farmhand in AAA(got traded from Cleveland)-9 IP, 2 hits CG shutout on 128 pitches.Surprised the manager let me go that long, especially with 65 Stamina. I was on fumes the last 2 innings, and that may have played a part in breaking up the no-hitter.

Only way is for the Interaction to show up where you ask not to be traded but to stay with the team. I haven't seen it so far this year, so it may not be in this year's game. Other than that, the best thing is to start over and hope.

Restarting my RTTS (only 2 months in) with the newest OSFM roster. Using a CF, going with 100% Speed, 90% Power and 65% Arm. Going to be entering the draft, and will be posting small blurbs in an 'update' form. If many like it, I'll make my own 'thread' and go from there. Playing on HOF (Batting/Pitching) with Analog controls.

Decided to go with sinker/slider/splitter and was drafted by San Francisco. I surrendered a run in my first appearance on two singles and a sac fly. My stuff stinks despite pumping a bunch of points into velocity. If I wanted a noodle arm, I'd go out in the back yard and throw for real...

UPDATE: Pitched a scoreless 8th in a 7-7 game in my 2nd appearance, but the Richmond Flying Squirrels plated two in the bottom of the inning. First career win!

                              RTTS suggestion.

If a guy is 6'2 255 catcher is the only reasonable posistion right?

Unfortunately I don't have an Interaction option to stay with the team. The only ones available are to move into the starting rotation or ask for a trade. I guess I'll just start over... at least there's an updated OSFM roster so I can use that as another reason to start over...

Another question: Does anyone know if a pitcher's throwing motion has anything to do with control? I was using Stephen Strausberg's motion for a while and was getting shelled every appearance from the pen (0-3, 8.50 ERA, 3.66 WHIP in my first 4 appearances).

I decided I didn't like his Strausberg's motion and changed to CJ Wilson's, and since the change I've been lights out... since changing throwing motions I've got 18 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 12 K, 0 BB, and I've noticed that it's easier for me to paint the corners and get guys to swing on pitches out of the zone than before.
