Not unless you have 6 years of MLB service time.

I carried a perfect game into the 10th inning, struckout the first two batters of the 10th (which gave me 6 straight strikeouts) and had my 30th batter faced in a 1-2 hole. Of course he hit a bloop single over the 2B baseman's head and I was pulled and got the ND.

Still, that's the best game I've ever thrown. It was against minor league hitters, and I'm "only" playing with pitching difficulty on All-Star with the CPU hitting sliders adjusted, but still.

      1. I hate you.

      2. Giving up the hit in the bottom of the 10th with two batters retired would have really pissed me off.

      3. GREAT GAME!!

Re: MLB 11 "Road To The Show" thread

Does anyone else feel like the game is intentionally trying to sandbag you sometimes?

I was the number 3 overall pitcher on the Phillies AAA roster. I was rolling along applying my stat points to where they wanted me to and was doing well. I felt that I was easily going to the show in my 3rd season.

Well, right at the 31st deadline last night, they dumped me and a reliever over to the Reds for some randome dude, I was so ticked I didn't even check his stats.

Anyway, I am now the number 5 overall best pitcher in their rotation and I know where this is gonna go. They are going to promote the 3 or 4 guys ahead of me and I will be looking at 3 years in the minors.

Without having exact figures, all of my /9 attributes are in the mid 50's. 54, 55, thereabouts.

        4SFB - rated 95-100MPH
        Slider - rated 85-89MPH
        Cutter - rated 90-94MPH
        Circle Change - rated 71-75MPH

I feel like that is a good arsenal with various speeds and breaks. I keep hitters guessing and have a 142 SO's on the season going into post game.

I was the number 1 pick for the All Star game before being traded.

I have kept 400 training points in the bank. I always keep that 400 point cushion and only spend what I earn above and beyond that, just in case.

So, would you guys' advice be to hit those /9 stats hard and only apply points to my pitches when they begin to decrease?

I know I sound like a broken record around here and I am sorry but another year in AAA might make me snap and kick the cat.

You will probably get the september call up and spring training next season which you could easily make the team from there if you pitch well. I would probably keep hammering those /9 atts and move up the depth chart.

I am fairly certain that unless you have another offer on the table, if you do not accept their offer by the deadline, you sit out the season...

Nope, if you are under 6 years service time you just get an auto-renewed contract at league minimum pay. If you are over 6 years, you get spring training walk on invites which you can parlay into a contract.

Yikes!! Really? That is worse that sitting out the season. Actually, I guess we first need to find out what the league minimum is before we can definitively say that.

Re: MLB 11 "Road To The Show" thread

ive been getting pretty pissed off lately. ive been running 2 rtts, one on all-star, regular sliders, and one on rookie with sliders to my advantage for fun to see what its like o break all of the records and things like that.

anyway, in my rookie difficulty rtts, ive played 3 years in the majors, and won rookie of they year, and all 3, won mvp, silver slugger, hank aaron, and just won gold glove for 1B and led the cubs to their 1st world series title in 108 years. i also broke the homerun record (80) and rbi record (202).

ive been on a 1 year contract, and even though i dont have 6 years mlb serivice, im getting pissed that all i can get offered is 6 million for 1 year, and when i try to up the offer, they say i need to be willing to give something up. will this change when i am eligible for free agency? will i be able to get that 7 year, 170 mil contract, or am i just wasting my time trying to get the big bucks?

I play the games, and I'm curious as to whether or not your K/9 attribute really matters when playing.
Yes it does affect your ability to get a swing and miss while playing. When you throw the ball, it performs a calculation to see the result. When the batter swings, it uses k/9 to help determine if there's contact. Location of the pitch counts for more in my experience but k/9 is still important. I'd probably put it behind the other /9 stats in priority but don't neglect it. It(s a lot more effective than Clutch and better than increasing pitch speeds.

Over the years, no matter what sports game, I've always been more of a franchise guy than a "my player" mode guy. But, I started in with RTTS in MLB 09, and am completely hooked on RTTS in MLB 11. So much so that I basically fell behind on the franchise I was doing, because of RTTS, and decided to focus just on RTTS. (Figuring once NCAA and Madden came out I'd likely pick one of those up. I'm one of those people that can only stay into the sports games whose seasons are currently going on in real life as well. )

Anyway, I really don't have many complaints with the mode, except for two that I've found so far that really get to me (I'm at the end of my 5th season now, so these are the only things that I've found to be GLARINGLY noticeable, to me anyway, over that time. Just gameplay stuff, not the odd transaction issues that everyone else encounters as well):

                          1) The "hyper speed" delivery from the opposing pitchers when you're trying to steal. I know it's not EVERY time, but it's pretty often, and I think it's just very, very cheap. I don't know how many times I've been caught stealing when I would have been safe by a mile...if not for that motion. Often times, if I don't take off when they do the hyper speed, the next delivery is a slide step. THAT, I'm fine with. Much more realistic. But it drives me crazy when I see a delivery that's very slow, think "Oh, I can take one off this guy for sure", and then his next pitch is a fast-forwarded delivery.

                          2) My player is a CF, so the fielding chances I get are usually pretty easy. However, I've only successfully completed the "Have a fielding percentage of .997 or higher" goal one time. In 5 SEASONS. Why? Because undoubtedly at some point along the way, every time, one of my cutoff throws (and not full strength ones from the fence, but easy, "I just fielded a ground ball in the OF, and am just tossing it back in" throws) goes past the cutoff man, out of nowhere, and goes in between two other fielders as the runner advances. Seriously, almost every advancement period that I have this goal, I get that error, just one time, and that's enough to keep my percentage too low to succeed. I'd be ok with it if I was trying to fire in a full-metered throw every time. But when I'm taking caution to throw a light-effort throw in when it's off a fielded ground ball, with nobody on base, so that I DON'T commit an error...drives me crazy.

But, awesome game this year. I've definitely never been this hooked on a non-franchise mode in a sports game before.

THIS. Until I got both my arm ratings up above 80, this issue came up a little too often. Now I understand a "50" rating for both arm ratings isn't terrible, but the game takes it too far with making outfielders botch flipping the ball back in. I'm all 99's at this point on arm so it doesn't happen but I agree this is an issue.

Secondly, what does the game take into account for a Gold Glove in RttS? I had the most putouts of anybody in the outfield last year, had 1 error and 10 assists and wasn't even in the top 6. This year I'm yet again - because of my speed, arm strength and accuracy, fielding and reaction being 99 - lead the league in putouts for outfielders, have no errors and lead the league in assists. Not top 6. I would think in simulating the awards the game would take into account my all-99 ratings for all fielding-related attributes in addition to me leading the league in those stats. But as usual, Crawford and Ellsbury are 1-2, followed by the Orioles outfield. Annoying.

It's very annoying, it goes by Fielding % then in order of the Teams...Hence why you always see Boston & Baltimore at the top.
