Re: MLB 11 "Road To The Show" thread

started a career as a pitcher and was drafted by the Rangers. I played about 20-30 games and went 11-2 but was traded to Astros for Carlos Lee at all-star break. Its funny cause Lee retired after the season so the Astros got a steal getting the best young pitching prospect. Im in the second season in Astros bullpen but Im a starter and they refuse to put me in the starting rotation. Anyone know how long it'll take til they give me a legit shot to start?
also does anyone know how often the request trade comes up cause I hate the astros and their ****ty last place team
    Go Bucs!

Don't count on a trade unless your either playing way below your salary, and they offload you to make budget space for someone playing good now and not down the road, or your playing so far over your head that a contender team can get something they need now and trade you off over your value. If your on a floundering team and they can afford you, and your playing good, you're not getting traded, no matter how much you ask for it.

As for moving to the rotation, you have to keep hitting your advancement goals, have the stats, and have the attributes. You can be playing way over your attributes, and have that come crashing down to earth soon as they stick you in the rotation, running the risk of setting you back. Once you get your attributes in the ballpark of the current crop of starters, they'll start you.

It comes up fairly frequently. At least for me in my two RTTS career guys. The only problem is, if you are too good, you are stuck there until you are elgible for to be a Free Agent because they will downright refuse to trade you.

Well, my SS finally made the show. I knew it was coming since one of the big trades during the All Star break was the Padres trading away their SS.

Sure enough, after the break, they purchased my contract from Tuscon. The only problem is, the first few games, I was used only as a pinch runner... Then, kthe First Baseman must have gotten injured because I got an e-mail stating that my goals were adjusted since I was going to start seeing A LOT more playing time. I thought for sure this was my big break as the starting SS but nope.

The problem is now, I started off terrible but am starting to come around. I am batting much better than the starting SS. I am curious of others that may have gone through this, when the First Baseman comes back off what I can only assume is a 60 day DL since I have been playing everyday for quite a while now, will I get the SS job or will I go back to a bench warmer until spring?

I was able to become a starter with the Kansas City Royals after requesting a position change to the starting rotation every time that option became available to me until finally my manager gave me a shot... the only disappointment I have with the game is that after going 5-0 I was back in the bullpen for the 2012 season and it took more position change to the starting rotation request to get me back in the rotation. I should have been a permanent fixture in the rotation to start 2012 at least.

So now in my second season, I manage to get sent back down to AA, and now it seems like I'm more attempting to salvage my player's career rather than advance it. I'll see what happens down the line.
My CF got called up as an injury replacement to AAA in his first year (in late May - way earlier than any of my other guys) and spent the rest of the season there as a backup. Stunk up the place pretty bad, in fact, never got my average over .200. Started in 2012 as the AA starter, hit .350 with 5 HR and got called back up to AAA, I think before April was done. Again was the backup, but I was hitting better than previous year (.280 or so) and just got named the starter, sometime in late May.

I think they realize that an 18 or 19 year old in AAA in overmatched, so it doesn't really hurt your career.

My 3B stunk pretty bad in his first year, just in general. He was moved up to AAA as a backup to start 2012, and after I finally started hitting with him, he was named the starter, think he's in late May or early June.

That's exactly what made me stop playing last year. I was a two time MVP and a World Series MVP, but Cleveland was getting rid of all their good players and making stupid moves so I wanted out, but nope. They need to have a trade override thing so you can get a trade if you want too, but you can only use it twice or something like that.

Can someone explain to me why my manager decides to sit me every other game when I'm the best hitter in baseball right now? It's driving me nuts, I don't even crack the top 50 in at bats every season bc my manager decides to give me days off every other day, when the rest of my team is hitting under the mendoza line. I thought the AI manager and GM logic was supposed to be fixed..

most likely your durability is way low and he is resting you because you are tired

Can someone tell me what I can do to throw base runners out? I play as a CF and despite both arm ratings being 99, no matter how I throw, which method I use, my accuracy is absolute poop. Throws to the plate are a joke. If it's right at the plate my catcher *runs towards* the ball, catches it, and then goes back to try and tag the runner who just scored. Otherwise my throws are almost constantly 20 feet up the first base line. This is getting pretty frustrating. I've looked at the manual and read the threads, and no matter how I throw the damn ball, I can't get it to the base. I've thrown while getting set (when catching fly balls, get into the arrows), thrown just off the catch and it makes no difference. I know throwing people out at the plate is difficult, but this is ridiculous. Any suggestions?

Also, love getting robbed of a double on these magic tags where the infield dirt turns to quicksand and the fielder gets the ball and tags me in 1/4 of a second:

That pisses me off sometimes as well. Dunno why, probably durability like he said below. But my issue had to do I didn't increase fielding at all, so that's why I was on the Bench when I looked at lineups or that's what I'm guessing my personal Issue was.

Yeah, it's durability. Quite hilarious that of all attributes starting out low, durability is one of them in RttS. I've got mine up to 99 now and get sat once a month, so it works out in the end. But truly, in addition to speed, durability progression in this game is just dumb. Speedster players don't start out as slow as Mark Teixeira and "progress," and most position players are more durable and energetic when they're younger! This should be fixed next year.

I agree. I think the problem is that it is not very realistic. We see this all the time with guys demanding trades, the home town fans find out, the media tears him to shreds but the team makes him sit there and rot until they feel like dumping him or until Free Agency.

But this is a video game, after all. My problem is that I won every award known to man my rookie year. I am a SP, the ace of the rotation, and even led them to a WS victory my first year. They literally spit in my face. I make 1.5 mil my second year?

No team in R/L would do this. Even despite the fact they technically "own" you, every team that has a super star rookie gives them huge bumps if they have seasons like that. My team offered me a 1 year 1.7mil contract which I felt was REALLY low. So I countered and wanted 10 for my second season, they refused. I dropped it to 5, they refused, I dropped it til 3.5, they refused. I then refused to sign and hear I am, making crap.

Granted, I know it is not real money but it is part of the immersion and to think a team would treat the BEST rookie pitcher in the game like that kind of turns me off.

I'm curious to see how this offseason unfolds. I'm in 2017 right now, and my player is in his first contract year. (I signed a 4 year deal in year 3, so the O's basically got an extra year out of me). And FINALLY, he's starting to live up to his ratings, which have gotten quite high. I'm basically saving the power ratings as the last thing to max out, because I want him to be a speedy, high average, good fielding player first, with decent power. As it is, contact ratings are 99 for LHP and RHP, and power ratings are at 70 for LHP and 68 for RHP. The few other ratings that are maxed out are plate vision, speed, and durability. Have a few others in the 90-95 range as well. Basically, when you look at the letter grade ratings on the player card, everything is an A, except for power, which is a D. So, he's progressing just like I'd planned.

The interesting thing is how the season is unfolding thus far. We're just 38-34 this year, one season removed from winning 95 games. However, it's good enough for second in the division, and first in the wild card. How many games back in the division are we? Try 21 GB!! Yep, the Yankees are 58-12 at this point. Just crazy.

However, my player has gotten on a HUGE hot streak lately, and now leads the league in batting average at .343. Also has 11 HRs, 40 RBIs, 18 SBs. Really finally starting to become the player I envisioned, just in time for his contract to come up at the end of the season. Really having a hard time deciding what to do. If we win the wild card and maybe win a series, do I stick with the O's? Do I remain loyal to the team, be a "one team my entire career" guy? Or do I leave the AL East in order to escape chasing the Yank$ every year (and getting away from facing Strasburg, who has been on the Yank$ the past 3 years, 4-6 times a year.)

Can't wait to see what happens. Never been this into a "my player" mode before, but REALLY loving it this year.

I love jumping ship. You should be eligible for free agency, so see what you can get out there. If there is nothing out there that you really want, come back to the O's. That's the only issue with RTTS, you never know who's going to be real good because of all the crazy deals and trades that the CPU pulls off.
