Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

just ended a 4-game series with the Giants in which we split...2-2. My guys got out of the slump by winning the finale 8-0, in which we recorded 2 homeruns(Pujols & Punto), 5 doubles(Berkman 3, Jay 2) on 10 hits.

Jaime Garcia pitched 7 shutout innings only allowing 4 hits. Wanted to try and get the complete game, but he was at 108 pitches after 7 and was gassed. Plus, he was missing spots and Giants were hitting him solid.

Thankfully, bullpen couldn't blow this lead...

Next up is the weekend series with the Cubbies.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Game 1: David Price versus Brett Anderson. Both pitchers won the Cy Young in their respective Leagues. When was the last time two Cy Young winners faced off against each other in the world series? We managed to get to Price in the second inning for two really tough runs. His running fast ball is just ridiculous. Even still, SS Paxton hit a solo shot off him when it ran right back into his wheel house. He did it again in the fifth inning to make it 3-0. For some reason, Phillies skipper (no idea who, wish they would fix this) decided to pinch hit for Price in the bottom of the fifth. Well it worked out, as Shin-Soo Choo belted a solo shot pinch hit home run. Kentucky Joe Blanton came in for relief and did not manage to let any more runs cross the plate. Anderson was dealing, but his pitch count got up there. Luckily for us, the combined efforts of Henry Rodriguez, Brian Fuentes, and Andrew Bailey let us steal a road win against those Phillies.

Game 2: Cliff Lee versus J.A. Happ. Lee was coming off a shutout in the ALCS, so I was hoping he would be bringing a little of that with him to the series. He did not. After four innings, The Phillies were up 4 nothing. I can't put all the blame on Lee though. Dustin Pedroia, who always kills me, managed to get 3 straight doubles and score all three times. And I thought my days of facing him were over when he got traded. Ziegler gave up another two runs, back to back solo shots by Werth and Soriano. We started to make some noise in the 8th and 9th, but couldn't get above the final 6-4 score. Phillies closer, Mike Gonzalez, made it interesting, but he tight-roped out of it.

Game 3: Back in Oakland finally. Gio to face off against Roy Halladay. Halladay did not bring his best stuff to the mound, but he did get in and out of danger like a cat in a room full of rocking chairs. With a pitch count up pretty high, he got pulled by the 4th. Gio was Halladay's lefty counter part. He was up to 4 er and 112 pitches after only 4.1 innings, unfortunately, he got tagged for another 3 runs when he left with bases loaded and ziegler allowed them all to score on a double by, you guessed it, Pedroia. We couldn't get back into that game and lost 9-3 as well as the home field advantage.

Game 4: I had to make the call between going back to Anderson or letting Mazarro get the call. I decided to go with Mazarro so that I could face off against their other batting order (and hopefully have some advantage against Pedroia). It turned out to be a good call, even though Ibanez belted a home run in his first appearance of the series. Price was dealing again, but this time we had a better look at that RFB. Pena finally woke up and belted his first of the series and third of the playoffs (including a crazy inside the park variety that bounced around all the walls in Fenway). Pena awoke the offensive beast, as we went on to win the game 6-1, all scores coming from solo shots.

Game 5: Anderson versus Happ. Anderson was just as good as his last start (and all starts in the playoffs going 5-0). Happ was ok, giving up 4 runs, but we still got to him a bit and managed to chase him out in the 6th. Blanton was dealing again. He could not get a score off of him. I elected to take Anderson out in the 8th, despite pitching a shutout, due to his high pitch count. Fuentes and Bailey were perfect again.

Game 6: Back to Philly. Cliff Lee versus Trevor Cahill (Lee on the A's and Cahill on the Phillies? What a bizarre universe). Cahill went through our lineup like a knife through butter. At least the first go around. Second time through, Pena belted another one, to make it 3 in the series. Carter, Quentin, and Paxton all followed suit after Dunn got hit by a pitch. 5 nothing, and they let him keep pitching. Pena did it again, a three run shot this time. Meanwhile, Lee got his form back on. He was impossible to hit, until Pedroia got a double and Tulowitzki drove him in. Then Lee became impossible to hit again. With a high pitch count and a comfortable lead, I took him out after 6. Up 8-1, Fuentes, Matt Capps, and Andrew Bailey finished out the game and the series.

It only took 4 seasons, but man was it worth it. I have heard that the celebration is rather weak, and it is, but fun nonetheless. Somehow Paxton ended up as the playoff and world series MVP, despite Pena belting 4 homers and a dozen or so RBIs. Pedroia of course got the NL playoff mvp.

Then we went into the off season and got some key acquisitions without spending very much money. Zack Grienke had sat out the whole season on the FA list (I pretend TJ surgery). So I picked him up for 1 year at $5 mil. I also got Joakim Soria for 1 year at $1 mil. I even tried to get Matt LaPorta for $2 mil, but Boston got just as wise and grabbed him up for a 2 year $17 Mil contract. I let Braden, Ziegler, Joey Devine, and Kouzmanoff. In need of a second baseman, I watched closely to see how free agency would shake out for Chase Utley, but Boston had his numbers way out of my price range. No other 2nd base option, so I figured I would ride it out with a spring training tryout. At the end of February, I notice that the Phillies had pulled their huge offering for Tulowitzki. I guess they lost out on too many arbitration hearings. I offered a 1 year $2 mil deal and he accepted. I will lose out on a draft pick, but I could get it back if he doesn't re-sign with us. I just didn't want the kid to sit out a whole year in FA, and he shores up my 2nd problem. I should play him SS, but my SS can't play 2nd so Tulo gets the job.

A funny thing happened right after the arbitration hearings. A bunch of teams released their top player. Guys like C.C., Hamilton, Fielder (MVP), Halladay, all got released to make budget room. I am considering going after Halladay because I really like him, I could use another pitcher especially since Grienke is a one year rental, Drabek, Ross, Richard, and de los Santos have still not panned out for me, and I don't want Halladay to sit it out a whole year in FA. He wants $18 mil though. Will be a tough decision. If I sign him to one year, I might be able to re-sign him to a lesser contract. Or I might lose him to another team. Or he might retire. Next year, Suzuki will be due for a raise, and Anderson and Bailey the year after that. Could get expensive.
        Congrats Cards...
I'm sure everyone here could say you well deserve it !(4 seasons including p-offs is 670-680+ games !!)
So you won it and above all vs the Philadelphia Yankees ... ouch Phillies.
What a tough line-up to beat every night.
It makes it even more special I think.

Anyway congrats. And good luck for season #5.

PS: I'm pretty interested in stats, standings,... if you could give me/us some info

        Thanks.

Well the Indians have made it to the draft in 2010 and at 17-34 theres work to be done. pitching wise only 2 starters have a solid era Masterson (4.12) and Laffey (3.17) have been good the rest a disaster. Laffey just got done beating CC and the Yankees so hes had a strong start. Shin-Soo Choo is having an all star start but the offense is sputtering. In the draft with the fourth overall pick im looking for a second baseman and the trade market is open for Cleveland should be an intersting 2 months for the Indians

In the Draft i hit in a second baseman in the first round. Jeramy Chavez should be a great player in a year or 2 shows good cantact skills with some pop. Good speed should be above average when he matures and defensivley he needs work but hes got a cannon of an arm. Other than that 4 other positon players were taken with 2 outfielders and 2 infielders along with chavez. I would say its a success based on the fact the other four where d potential. Trade market ill be looking for young pitchers and another major league ready infielder or 2

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

Just finished April in my Red Sox franchise with 12-15 record, 5 games behind the division leader Yankees.

My pitching has been pretty good with the 1-2 punch of Beckett and Lester. Beckett leads the staff with 3 wins while Lester leads all MLB pitchers in strikeouts. Dice-K has been so-so for me so far his not that consistent and always have a high pitch count in 5-6 innings. lackey is struggling to find his groove as he lost his first four decisions (2 quality starts btw) and Buchholz has his ERA around 7.00 with 3 losses.
My bullpen has been stellar with the combination of Jenks-Bard-Papelbon leading the way. Wheeler, Wakefield, and Albers also have been great when used while trailing to keep us in the game. Bard is a beast and his fastball is just overpowering. but Papelbon is struggling in save situations as he already blown 3 saves for me so far and his ERA hover around 5.00 I'm thinking about giving the closer job to Bard if Pap continues to struggle.

My offense in the other hand, has been awful. My team ranked 29th in AVG, HR, and RBI. Big Papi is hitting .082 with no homers and 2 RBIs. Hopefully he can bounce back. Crawford has been good hitting around .280 and have stolen 13 bases so far. A-Gon leads my team in HR with 5 homers. Youk is struggling to get hits as his average hovering around .192 with 2 homers.
hopefully my offense can bounce back next month.

I'm playing a 30-team franchise and I play every game.

              sorry for my bad english

Is it me or many people seem to have offensive issue this year ?
Maybe batting is more difficult ?
As far as I'm concerned, I've down the difficulty from HOF to AS because I was struggling (whereas I was a HOF guy last year).

                Weird. Maybe I just suck!

Thanks man. In all fairness, I did play every game in the first three seasons, but only played one game a series in the 4th season (and simmed the last two weeks of the season), save for the playoffs. I played all of those. Here was my lineup and some stats:

CF Aurelio Peralta .312/27/84 with 25 SB
                  3B David Wright .304/28/100 and 26 SB

                  RF Adam Dunn .271/50/120
                  DH Chris Carter .292/37/112
                  LF Carlos Quentin .296/26/82
SS Termel Paxton .288/24/81 17 SB
                  C Kurt Suzuki .299/24/96
                  2B Kevin Kouzmanoff .305/16/71
2B Cliff Pennington .325/2/26 only played 56 games

I also had Ryan Church, Michael Taylor, and C Max Stassi and then C J.P. Arencibia after Stassi was traded for Lee

                  Pitchers:
                  Cliff Lee 17-8 4.84 167K
Brett Anderson 19-4 2.74 185K and Cy Young winner
                  Gio Gonzalez 16-6 4.04 185K
                  Vin Mazarro 17-5 3.61 147K

Andrew Bailey 2.49 46 saves and Relief award winner
I also picked up Fuentes off waivers with a 7+ era but was spotless in the playoffs

                  Standings for winners:
                  AL East - Bos 102-60, TB 92-70

                  NL West - LAD 105-57, Col 95-67

                  Oak beats TB 3-0
                  Bos beats Min 3-0

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

Played two 2 game series against the Angels and then the Rangers with my A's.

I was 12-13 going into the Angels series and had a matchup of Bronson Arroyo and John Lackey in game 1. Very solid outting by both pitchers, they were both on top of their games but Bronson ended up giving up a sac fly in the bottom of the 7th and the Angels took a 3-2 lead and held on for the win.

Game 2 was Bartolo Colon's first start for the Athletics, and man was he on. He ended up going 6 2/3 scoreless innings allowing 7 hits and striking out 8. Up 3-0 in the 8th, Joey Devine gave up 2 runs but Santiago Casilla bailed him out and kept the lead for us. Nate McClouth hit a solo homerun in the top of the 9th to give us a 4-2 lead. That was the fourth solo homerun of the day for our Athletics (Reyes, Roberts and Ankiel hit the others). Wagner came in and set the Angels down in order while striking out 2 to earn the save.

Game 1 of the Rangers series was going well until the 5th. We had a 3-1 lead going into the bottom of the 5th, where Wil Ledezma just fell apart. It unraveled so fast, and I didn't have anyone up in the pen to get him out before we lost the lead. The Rangers walked away from that inning with a 5-3 lead, and while we tried to fight back we were shut down the rest of the way and lost.

Game 2, Ian Snell was on the mound for us, his first start since his amazing performance last time out. He was good again, he ended up going 7 innings allowing 3 runs on 5 hits while striking out 5. Glad to see back to back good outings by him, hope it continues. The Rangers had Vicente Padilla on the mound, and we got to him early. In the first, Rick Ankiel hit a 3 run homerun to left to give us the early 3-0 lead with no outs in the ballgame. Padilla got out of that inning without giving up any more runs, but we were making him work. He was chased from the game after only 2 1/3 innings, giving up 5 runs on 7 hits 3 walks and throwing a whopping 86 pitches. Bottom of the 8th, we are up 5-3 and unfortunately my regular set up man, Will Ohman, needs the day off. So I brought in Joey Devine, and he got into some trouble. After getting two quick outs, he allowed back to back base hits. I brought in Billy Wagner, and with 2 on and 2 out he struck out Chris Davis to end the inning. Wagner came back out in the 9th and set the Rangers down 1-2-3 and completed the 4 out save. The Rangers threw 184 pitches in this game, I am not sure I have ever done that.

Just a few notes, I now have a record of 14-15 on the season. 3 out of these 4 games the starters pitched well. That's what I love to see, after all the struggles with starting pitching we had in April hopefully things are turning around.

I am also very very pleased with Jose Reyes so far, glad I was able to sign him to a 3 year/$60 million contract this past offseason. He's hitting .340 with 8 doubles 4 triples and 2 homeruns. He also has 6 or 7 stolen bases and plays great defense. I really wanted a dynamic player like him for the top of my order (I tried for Crawford the year before) and am very happy I got him.

For me it's lack of variety. I hit on Legend last year and hitting .230 on All-Star this year. I hit the ball hard and good, but it's always to someone. When it's not too someone it's a blooper that the fielder has plenty of time to get to. It's frustrating to say the least and not sure what sliders to adjust to help with the problem.

I am running as the Royals this year. I am 7-6 so far. Mike Moustakas was a guy I was gonna bring up in May, but his Spring was far beyond great and has been my best hitter so far.

I played out Spring training and had a lot of surprises make my team. Everett Teaford, Lance Zawadzki and Lucas May.

I also traded WIlson Betemit for Carols Villanueva and he has been the bomb! A 0.44 ERA in 3 starts.

Luke Hochevar has been on a roll aswell with a ERA in the 2's and a 3-0 record in 4 starts.

Melky Cabrera, Kyle Davies & Jeff Francis has been my weak points. Francis is a long reliever due to Villanueva being in the rotation. My hitting overall sucks, but Lorenzo Cain, Mike Moustakas, Brayan Pena & Mike Aviles has been doing very well.

Oops, this first game against the Angels I put in bold, I actually won the game 3-2. Arroyo gave up 2 runs in 7 innings while striking out 7.

Well, I've faired pretty well. It's been an up-and-down season early on. I'm off to a 17-3 start, best in the majors with my Phillies. I've already played a 16-inning game, along with 2 20-inning games, so that's taken its toll...Thankfully I'm 3-0 in those games. Here's a look at my roster:

                          Lineup:
                          1) SS Jimmy Rollins .308 1HR 1RBI 5SB
                          2) 3B Placido Polanco .363 2HR 11RBI
                          3) 2B Chase Utley .325 9HR 21RBI
                          4) 1B Ryan Howard .341 8HR 11RBI
                          5) LF Raul Ibanez .358 5HR 10 RBI
                          6) RF Domonic Brown .268 4HR 11RBI 3SB
                          7) CF Shane Victorino .213 1HR 4RBI 1SB
                          8) C Carlos Ruiz .280

                          Bench:
                          OF Ben Francisco .211 (8-38) 2HR 5RBI
                          C/1B Erik Kratz .381 (8-21) 2RBI 3 2B
                          1B/OF Ross Gload .267 (4-15) 2HR 2RBI
                          INF Marco Scutaro .304(17-56) 2HR 8RBI (Most w/ Boston)
                          1B Mike Sweeney .133 (2-15) 1 3B
C Brian Schneider .167 (1-6) *Currently on DL*

                          Rotation:

                          Closer:
                          Brad Lidge: 1-0/ 8 Saves/ 20K-40 Batters Faced/ 12IP/ 0.00 ERA/0.33 WHIP

Most of my lineup has been hot for at least a week out of the first three, with Howard and Utley cooling off as of late and Ibanez and Brown really heating up. My bench has been solid though my FA Signing in Mike Sweeney hasn't paid off (1 year/ $1.6 Million). I love the guy, but am probably going to replace him with Jim Edmonds (2 years/ $1 Million) who has torn up AA and AAA.

Rocco Baldelli (2 years/ $1 Million) has faltered at AAA, but has torn up AA. So when I call up Edmonds, I'll probably move Baldelli back to Lehigh Valley (AAA) and see what he can do.

Meyer and Bass impressed out of Spring Training and have done well for me. Very underrated. Brian Schneider may have lost his job to the rookie Kratz after he somehow broke his arm sliding into 2nd...feet first....

I acquired Scutaro, somehow, for D-Rated AA Relief Prospect Rob Ayala. Straight up. Don't know what Boston was thinking.

But I have been thinking of bolsting my bullpen since Springer has really been faltering as of late. Boston is being stupid again.

Should I accept this trade (Probably yes, but just making sure)?

Red Sox Acquire: RP JC Romero & RP Danys Baez

How can you call 17-3 start a up-and-down season? lol I'm doing a pirates franchise and I'm only 4-9. My bright spot is my rookie Wiz Khalifa, who is 3-0. What settings you using?

Up and down because one night I'll win in a 12-0 blowout, the next a 1-0 pitching duel, and the next a 20-inning game in which my bullpen pitched a 8.2 Inning Perfecto. Custom Settings. I sucked in Spring Training (where there was yet ANOTHER 20 inning game) so I made Custom Settings that would make it easier for me to slip into it. I'm planning on increasing the difficulty every month or so until I'm back at All-Star...

But what say you? Daniel Bard for Baez and Romero is a pretty good steal. Only problem is they're tearing up AAA, so I'm a bit indescisive.

And I'm still a bit curious how I lost Brian Schneider...He hit a double in the gap, slid feet first into second like normal, and it said he suffered an injury. I shrugged it off, waited till the game was over and there it said he was gone 2-3 months with a broken arm...Weirdest Injury I've ever suffered...

That still isn't really a up-and-down season, say you start 6-0 then lose 8 straight, then win 3 in a row, then lose 5 straight, that's a up-and-down season.

Now about the trade, I don't like to rob the cpu. As J.C. and Baez are getting older and more unconsistent. While Bard is young and is getting better. But it's ur franchise you can do whatever you like.
