Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

Just started a new franchise with the Braves, where the plan is to play all 162 games. Not doing 30 team control, so every team's best players are on their rosters to begin the season. So while opening the season against the Nationals, I had to face Strausburg on Opening Day. Luckily for me, Derek Lowe was phenomenal. While I ended up striking out 14 times through 9 innings (something I need to work on, this is a typical amount of strikeouts for me), I managed to win in large part due to Dan Uggla's fantastic debut. Atlanta's big offseason pickup homered 3 times, and I won the game 5-3. My bullpen struggled, but overall I was happy with the first game. I plan on posting updates after each series I play in here.

I'm playing a game in my season and wondered if anyone else has seen that the A.L. East standings board in Fenway is wrong. I'm at April16 and it shows that the teams have played over 40 games, is this a bug?

It's been like that in every version of The Show. Unfortunately, the standings will stay like that throughout the season.

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

Spring Training Update: The back-up middle-infield position has yet to be decided, with neither player stepping up. Eduardo Nunez got his first extra base hit of the season with a double and seems to be the strongest candidate.

The 4th rotation spot has been claimed by Ivan Nova, who has been very strong in all of his appearances this spring. Freddy Garcia is leading the charge for the #5 spot, with Joba Chamberlain challenging. Neither Colon nor Brackman are being considered at this point - Brackman will head to AAA and is a likely mid-season call up. There are two possible outcomes:

#1) Garcia makes the rotation: Colon goes to the bullpen, Chamberlain goes to AAA.
#2) Chamberlain makes the rotation: Garcia goes to the bullpen, Colon competes with Garrison and Ayala for the final bullpen spot.

Mark Prior will be sent to AA to start the season, and Ryan Pope has easily won one of the open bullpen spots with a very strong spring training. Garrison is likely to win the second spot, given that he is a lefty and would give the Yankees the most flexibility out of the pen, but Ayala threw a perfect, 3-K inning in his last appearance and could earn the spot.

The plan now is to play two more games, then re-evaluate, with Garcia and Chamberlain throwing 80-100 pitches, and the rotation decision will be made off of those performances. The bullpen picture will be evaluated based on the performance of the starting pitchers and the relievers who come into the game. Nunez and Pena will start both these games (one each at 2B, SS).

Position Battle Statistics: (leader in green, out of contention in red, bold = won job)
                Eduardo Nunez: 2-9 (.222/.300/.333) 2 RBI, 0BB/2K
                Ramiro Pena: 1-8 (.125/.125/.125) 1 R, 0BB/1K

                Ivan Nova: 1-0, 2.57 ERA, 7.0 IP, 2H, 2ER, 1HR, 0BB, 5K, 0.29 WHIP
                Freddy Garcia: 1-0, 1.50 ERA, 6.0 IP, 3H, 1ER, 0HR, 0BB, 6K, 0.50 WHIP
                Joba Chamberlain: 1-1, 1.23 ERA, 7.1 IP, 6H, 1ER, 1HR, 1BB, 4K, 0.95 WHIP
                Bartolo Colon: 1-0, 5.40 ERA, 8.1 IP, 7H, 5ER, 2HR, 0BB, 4K, 0.84 WHIP (in contention for LRP spot)
                Andrew Brackman: 0-0, 1.50 ERA, 6.0 IP, 7H, 1ER, 0HR, 0BB, 5K, 1.17 WHIP (will be sent to AAA)

                Ryan Pope: 0-0, 0.00 ERA (4GP), 4.0 IP, 2H, 0ER, 0HR, 0BB, 4K, 0.50 WHIP
                Luis Ayala: 1-1, 6.00 ERA (3GP), 3.0 IP, 5H, 2ER, 0HR, 0BB, 3K, 1.67 WHIP
                Steve Garrison: 0-0, 3.00 ERA (3GP), 3.0 IP, 2H, 1ER, 0HR, 1BB, 1K, 1.00 ERA
                Mark Prior: 1-0, 10.13 ERA (2GP), 2.2 IP, 3H, 3ER, 1HR, 0BB, 2K, 1.13 WHIP (will start season in AA)

Season Progression update: My team is hitting on all strides right now, i've gone on a 20 game win streak. I'm playing on all star difficulty with the sliders that are recommended here, but I use guess location, would that contribute to me winning that much? Even with all of that winning the RedSox are still 4 games back!

I've traded for jason kipnis of the indians to take over 3B next year while Jeter DH's and I shift A-Rod to SS. However, i've come across a trade offer. The nationals have offered the Bryce Harper, for Kipnis. What do you guys think, should I accept the trade?

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

Just finished my first series in my Braves franchise, and I'm sure glad to be leaving Washington. After Dan Uggla's heroics in game 1 (see my post on the previous page), the next 2 games were a disaster.

Game 2: I had a 5-1 lead heading into the bottom of the 8th, thanks to some outstanding pitching from Tim Hudson. Unfortunately, my bullpen was a train wreck, and I also had a key error that contributed to the Nationals scoring 5, and taking a 6-5 lead. With runners on the corners with one out in the 9th, I grounded into a double play to take the loss.

Game 3: Freaking Livan Hernandez. No matter how hard I hit his fastball, it was always straight to someone. His curveball was so slow that I kept getting way ahead of it, and grounding out weakly. He had given up one hit against me in the first 6 innings (a Chipper Jones solo HR). I rallied for 3 runs off him in the 7th, but I was already down 7-1 at that point, and the game was basically over. Tommy Hanson threw 30 pitches in the 1st inning, and I could never get into a rhythm with him. He gave up 4 runs in 5 innings.

So at 1-2, I head to Milwaukee for a 4-game series with the Brewers. Jair Jurrjens will start the opener, against Randy Wolf. I'm looking forward to the Lowe-Greinke, and Hudson-Gallardo matchups in the last 2 games of the series.

It depends on your needs. You said you wanted Kipnis to take over at 3B next year, but do you think he'll be there for the future? What is your OF situation looking like for the future?

                          @ Braves: Freddy Garcia

After a 5-run outburst in the first inning for the Yankees, they cruised to an easy 6-3 win.

                          Relevant Statistics:
                          Freddy Garcia: 6.1 IP, 6H, 3R (1ER), 2HR, 0BB, 4K (97 pitches, 68 strikes)
                          - a strong start, but after a Pena error with two outs, Garcia gave up a moonshot to Jason Heyward. Along with another 465+ ft blast to Alex Gonzalez, Garcia struggled a bit, but pitched well enough to have a strong chance of making the Yankees rotation.

                          Bartolo Colon: 0.2 IP, 0H, 0BB, 0K
                          Luis Ayala: 1.0 IP, 1H, 0BB, 2K
                          Steve Garrison: 1.0 IP, 0H, 0BB, 0K

                          Eduardo Nunez (SS): 2-4, 2 2B, 1R, 1RBI
With an outstanding game, both offensively and defensively, Nunez was informed after the game that he earned a spot on the 25-man roster. Pena will be sent to AAA.
                          Ramiro Pena (2B): 0-4, 1K, 2 errors, (1 fielding, 1 throwing).

Both Pena and Nunez will play in tomorrow's game, where Chamberlain will take the mound against the 8-0 Pirates. Chamberlain will throw 80-100 pitches. Also scheduled to throw: Colon, Pope. Ayala and Garrison will throw, if necessary.

I'm 10-4 with the Indians. Playerd Baltimore today, they had Zach Britton and I had the choice to go between Carmona or White. i decided to go with Carmona and rest him after 5 if I had a lead. I as up 4-0 after 5. Carrasco pitched 4 beautiful innings and won 7-0.

Performer of the day was Matt Laporta with a 3 run bomb in the 4rd inning off a contact swing. Also a mention to Grady Sizemore who was 3 for 4 with a walk.

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

In season 2 of my franchise with the Indians (I wanted to pick a team that was a challenge and had lots of FAs, so I couldn't just re-sign them all). I selected this 23-year-old rookie who is VERY solid, and after simming 1 season, he is now one of the best players in the game (no editing). Traded for Arnoldis Chapman midway through season 1, then at the end of season 1 I traded for Mike Stanton, giving me some good young pieces to build around. I'm hoping my 24-year-old stud can make a good case for MVP (average fielding, but has 99 plate vision [!], 90 play discipline, 88 and 94 contact, and 74 and 86 power)! Just played my first series (against the Red Sox of course, who traded for Ubaldo Jiminez and signed Matt Cain in FA [unrealistic, but whatever]). SPlit the first 2 games 1-1, with my offense being HORRIBLE and my pitching being solid, except for a blown save in the bottom of the 9th in the season opener [but at least my stud 2nd-year player got one winning hit]). Third game, it was the opposite: good batting, bad pitching. Gave up 3 runs in the first on 4 hits, but then my first HRs of the season with Hafner and Sizemore getting one apiece in the 2nd. I made it 3-3 in the 6th and it was 4-4 going into the bottom of the 9th in game 3. I thought I could hold them, so I rested my CP and instead used the hard-throwing Chapman. Gave up a leadoff triple to Jacoby Ellsbury, then I intentionally walked the next batter, got a strikeout, then they drove in the winning run, yet another bottom of the 9th loss. But my stud 24-year-old is hitting like .550 and has 2+ hits in all 3 games so far, with like 4 or 5 SBs (his speed sucks, but his BR is good).
