Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

Finally got a team that I really liked to start a fantasy draft franchise with. I'm using the Indians. I went through the Full Minors roster and made a lot of ratings edits. I'm a bigger fan of rating a guy based on only last years outputs than a 3 year average, especially for fantasy draft franchises, as it's basically a "what if these guys had the same ability as last year with an all new team around them?". So if you were doing a fantasy draft with Knights rosters without editing anyone, different guys get drafted in different spots.

      First off, here's the squad:

      Lineup

      LF Johnny Damon
      3B Placido Polanco
      CF Carlos Gonzalez
      DH Jose Bautista
      1B Billy Butler
      RF Carlos Quentin
C John Baker (vs. RHP)/Fransisco Cervelli (vs. LHP)
      2B Blake Dewitt
      SS Edgar Renteria

      Rotation

      Trevor Cahill
      Matt Cain
      Ted Lilly
      Colby Lewis
      Gio Gonzalez

      Bullpen

      LRP Tim Wakefield
      MRP Dan Wheeler
      MRP Guillermo Mota
      MRP Koji Uehara
      SU Jonny Venters
      SU Octavio Dotel
      CP Mariano Rivera

Lost game one of the season against the White Sox 6-4. There's gonna be some heated games between the two of us, as they have a tough as nails rotation to match up with my lineup. They threw Cliff Lee at me in game 1, then I get Liriano in game 2, followed by Big Z in game 3.

I fell behind early in the first after giving up a two run bomb on a belt high sinker to Carlos Pena. Cahill had trouble controlling his sinker all day long, as he only lasted 5, giving up 4 ER with 7 K's. If not for his slider, I probably wouldn't have kept the game as close as I did. Lee struck out 3 of the first 4 guys, but I finally got to him in the 5th with a two run bomb from Quentin on a letter high fastball. Lee only really made two mistakes all game long, and that was one. He also gave up a HR to Damon on a hanging curveball. The game was tied 4-4 in the 9th. I brought in Mariano to give keep it tied, and he did his job, striking out the side on 12 pitches. I blew my big chance in the bottom of the 9th, as CarGo led off the inning with a double. I figured I had it in the bag with a man on 2nd with 0 outs, and Bautista, Butler, and Quentin due up, but CarGo wound up stranded at 3rd to end the inning.

They wound up pulling it out in the 11th after back to back doubles from Boesch and Belliard gave them the lead. They plated one more in the inning, then brought in Papelbon to shut the door.

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

This wasn't in my franchise, but I was doing an exhibition. I was the A's in their new Yellow jerseys facing Lincecum and the Giants in SF. My god, I just destroyed them even with the A's less than stellar offense.

Lincecum went 4 2/3, giving up 8 runs. It's funny because he could've got out of the 1st unscathed, but Tejada made a throwing error that allowed the inning to continue, and then two singles later, it was 1-0, and then another single, and a double and I was up 3-0 in the 1st. Got a couple more runs in the 2nd, and hit a 3 run blast with Kouzmanoff in the 5th to make it 8-1 and they pulled Lincecum.

I dominated with Brett Anderson. It's just funny how just like in real life, even the elite guys can have off days. I've probably played 10 exhibitions (I play RTTS but haven't started Franchise yet), and I've only won twice. I've seen tons of varying scores, too, which is very good.

Just got Ludwick back after he's been on the 60 day DL. SF has also been on a losing skid pushing my lead to 5 games now. It was down to 1.5. I'm 74-52. Ludwicks first AB I hit a 2 run HR! Welcome back. I released Denorfia to make room for him simply becauase I absolutely hate him.

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

Started a new franchise with the Indians. Wanted to save lots of cap space to stock up one offseason, so I simulated 3 years and let almost all my FAs walk (I kept like 4 over the 3 years, because they were young and good (Chisenhall, Arnoldis Chapman [traded for him in year 1], this stud CF with maxed potential, this SP with almost maxed potential, and I re-signed my 20-year-old stud 2B to a 10 year contract, which he is now in year 2 of). My 20-year-old 2B, Rich De La Rosa, started his career as a 3B, but I already had Chisenhall, so I moved him to 2B, which gave him a huge ratings boost. The whole plan is to build around him for batting and Chapman for pitching, so I'm gonna sim two more years, to where I'm guessing my stud 2B will basically have like a Robinson Cano-like build.

Santana has thrown 120 pitches so I take him out for Capuano...You see where this is going...Philly explodes for a 6 run 8th and I lose 7-5. Groannnn... I thought I was finally going to snatch another win.

The difficulty is fine, I get realistic hit counts but I just can't stop the CPU from coming back on me almost every time I get a lead. I'm guessing the Mets bullpen is just trash.

Is anybody else struggling like hell with the Mets?

We're in the same boat. I'm 0-5 with the Mets......

I'm 9-8 with the Dodgers in my franchise. I'm 1.5 GB in division and wild card. I just beat the Braves 3-2 in 10th inning. I was down by 1 run going into the 10th. Barajas double, Sacrifice Fly with Cory Aldridge, Juan Uribe RBI single. Loney Walk, Carroll strikeout, Blake Walk, and Pinch-Hit RBI single by Furcal. Very satisfying win. Then, after that game I traded John Ely and Josh Lindbloom for Josh Willingham. Going to update soon.

2-5 with my Tigers on HOF.

Damn it takes a lot of concentration to win a game this year on HOF, its hard work but im loving it.

A slow start, but motown WILL become the gotown once again, i preach patience to myself

I'm 6-5 in mine, after just losing 2 straight at home to Texas... started 0-2 after the Yankees shut us down, but managed to eek out a 1 to 0 win in the final game of the series. Had a good series at Baltimore, and home opening series vs. KC. My games have been pretty variable... I think I'm finally getting my settings just the way I want.

Here is a video of the opening game of the series vs. Texas (a 3 to 0 loss)... Coke was actually perfect thru 4-2/3 then my wife called and broke my concentration LOL

I'll post that 5th inning video later, because there was some pretty cool things that happened in it.

Also, notice I use your walk-up pack?

Just finished my first week of the season with the A's, and it is going to be a very long and hard season if this first week is any indication. 2-6 out of the gate. have lost every series thus far.

HOF is brutal. .500 ball is an ideal goal for me, but staying there is tough.

This is why hot streaks are important. I definitely believe one of those will determine my division.
