Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

About scouting, if I remember it is not necessary to scout player under 18 since they can't be drafted. Is it right ?
If so, we have to uncheck young players in the "scouting player screen".

PS: oh Cards, I know now why you loved Adam Dunn so much. He is a beast. Each hit is hard, very hard. I'm only 4 games in the season (+ some ST games) but he already had launched 2 moon shots and one was very impressive versus KC. Versus a lefty he hit the ball a bit late but send a no doubter 465 feet away in the opposite field. He is the reason I play with the White Sox this year and I'm sure I will love him!!!

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

Just started one last franchise because I got sick of having my super rookie (I had like a .20 ERA because he was so good, and it wasn't fun). Same setup as always(Pirates, Experienced, OSFM Full Minors), except I decided to sim multiple years this time (I've simmed 2 so far, but might sim one more) so that the players I drafted aren't super rookie 18-year-olds, but they are rising star 20-21 year-olds.

First year simming, I only won 67 games, but that is expected with the Pirates. I traded for Bryce Harper and I got offered a trade for Jose Tabata (I put him on the trading block) that landed me Alexei Ramirez, and Adam Dunn. I didn't have a LF, so I just switched Matt Diaz over to LF for a bit. Ramirez and DUnn killed it year 1 for me, and they both filled two of my biggest needs (besides starting pitcher).

I drafted this RF (I moved him to LF immediately) named Carson Bailey who is pretty solid, but is by no means a super rookie, however, his potential is maxed! Anyways, I missed the playoffs, and hit free agency. Re-signed most of my key players (I don't even bother with older minor league guys, as I will never call them up anyways), and ended up signing this very solid RP (I forgot his named, but he was good), as well as Yadier Molina! He fills a HUGE need, and even though he's not that young, he can still boost my team for a few more years.

Anyways, then I simmed the next season as well. I moved Harper up to the MLB (where he destroyed, and earned a 10-year contract in return as the future face of the franchise), but kept my rookie in AA (where he got the triple crown easily, and also led the league in walks, hits, stolelen bases, runs, and OPS). Anyways, I finally ended up maxing out my stadium, and I got myself in good financial shape. I had the 7th pick in the draft, and I got this solid 19-year-old RP who can throw 100 MPH! And no, he's not a super rookie either, he could throw 100 before editing and everything. His potential isn't maxed, but it's still "A" potential.

Didn't make any trades this season, because my team, other than pitching, was stacked pretty well for now and the future. I was around .500 nearing the All-Star break when my team suddenly won 8 out of their last 10 going in and never looked back. Going into the All-Star break, we were 11.5 games behind the Phillies for the wild card. We ended up going on a magical run and it came down to a tiebreaker game and we won, putting us in the playoffs! I didn't expect us to go far, but I simmed the first round and we ended up winning! We lost the next round, but that run the last second half of the season was enough for me. And my budget finally went up! Only 4%, but it's better than 0%!

Didn't have $ to sign any key free agents, other than re-signing my players, so that's what I did. I got a new hitting coach, but Terry Francona and the rest of the staff stayed, so I had no holes to fill there.

My players progressed decently well, but not as well as I expected. After harper's rookie year, he only went up +2, and then +4 the next season, while my other rookie only went up +2. That would be fine, if I didn't have like all my training centered towards those two while some other players went up +20! But whatever, they're still really young, so they'll have their moments.

Gonna start actually playing at the beginning of 2013, as now is the perfect time to start playing, after last season's second-half run. Moved my rookie up to the MLB (Matt Diaz demanded too much $, so I let him go), and even though he's not gonna tear it up immediately, he can hold his own.

Well I'm 1-5 with the Mets using Knight and co's roster and playing on default allstar. This game is starting to really frustrate me! I finally had a 5-1 lead against Philly and only needed 4 outs for the win. Santana has thrown 120 pitches so I take him out for Capuano...You see where this is going...Philly explodes for a 6 run 8th and I lose 7-5. Groannnn... I thought I was finally going to snatch another win.

The difficulty is fine, I get realistic hit counts but I just can't stop the CPU from coming back on me almost every time I get a lead. I'm guessing the Mets bullpen is just trash.

Is anybody else struggling like hell with the Mets?

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

Awesome and frustrating game yesterday. 0-0 going into the 6th, runners on 1st and 2nd w/1 out when i made a mental error on a ball hit to SS i threw to 3rd and tried to also get the batter out at first. So i again had runners on 1st and 2nd w/2 out, MIL gets 2 doubles and i go down 3-0, F*!

But, then my bats finally came alive, i had 0 hits going into the 7th, first Thole gets on with a single, then Murphy jacks a 2-run shot, Santana K's, Reyes hits a solo shot, and Wright hammered a solo shot also. Yes up 4-3!

Bottom 7, Johan had only thrown 75 pitches but had rather low energy so i left him in and gives up 4 successive hits as MIL nets 3 runs. I guess i should have yanked him b/c energy matters more than the # of pitches thrown. Tomorrow's another day!

In the middle of my first game right now. Andrew McCutchen led off with a solo HR, and my rookie got a hit for me. His baserunning ability is 6, but his speed is only 57. I was in a sac bunt situation, so it didn't matter anyways, but I wanna know if it's safe to steal with him?

Anyways, I've allowed 3 hits so far, one of them on a sac bunt by the pitcher where the 3B, SP, and C all thought someone else would get it....ughhhh.

I'm now winning 1-0, and next time my rookie (hopefully) gets on base, I wanna know if I can steal 2nd.

Started my franchise over after getting frustrated. want a clear head

so far 1-1 with the cubs

1st game- I lose 2-0. James Mcdonald was too dang good. His changeup was too good for me. I had 5 hits but they were scattered. Zambrano pitched a good game for me

2nd game-Ryan Doumit hit a 1st inning hr off Garza. I got a HR from Soriano to cut the lead to tie it. Pirates then put up 3 in the 5th, then I followed up with a Hr from Razmirez.Bottom of the 7th I tied it with a hr from Soto. Bottom of 9th a 2 run hr on a sinker middle in from Starlin Castro to win it.

So I've had 2 different games so far. One where I struggled hitting and the 2nd one where I had 4 home runs. Paul Maholm hung a curveball on 3 of those so I'm gonna play a few more to see if I iwll have to decrease my power slider

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

WOW! What a 3 game series against the Marlins i just had to start the year.

                Game 1
Pelfrey pitches well (6 Ings/4k/2bb/5hits/2r/1 unearned), against Johnson (8 Ings/7k/1bb/1r/earned/ 8 hits). I'm down 2-1 going to the 9th. Bang, Lead Off HR against Nunez by Reyes to tie the game. Pagan, next batter, Bang 3-2 lead off of Henley (closer bug). KRod, comes in..... 1-2-3 inning.
                Win opener 3-2

                Game 2
Niese pitches brilliant (8 ings/4hits/5k/1bb/0r) against Nolasco (7ings/6k/0bb/6hits) combined with Krod's second save chance in as many chances 1-0 win. Only run scored by sacrifice fly from Bay.

Nope, won't touch sliders because I know how this game plays..................

                Game 3
After taking a 4-0 lead powered by Bay's 3 run blast, Dickey leaves after 1 1/3 ings with shoulder tightness (didn't know until after game). Carrasco comes in and does an admirable job limiting them to 1 run in 3 2/3 inings, striking out 4 batters. With a 5-1 lead Boyer comes in the 6th and promptly gives up a 2 run shot to Morrison. In the 7th, Parnell gives a 2 run HR to Peterson (POTG) pinch hitting, to tie the game. Needless to say, I lost the game in 10 from a Henley Ramirez (GWHR)

Thank goodness I have a day off.

                Other notables:

Yanks 3 game sweep of Tigers....
Phillies 3 game sweep of Astros....
Red Sox 3 game sweep of Rangers......

                Closely resembling real life notables:
Texiera with 3 HRs to start the year.

You are correct about the scouting of players under 18. At least until the draft. After the draft, I only scout 17 year old players since the scouting pool still has players that were drafted available to scout. I write down the entire first and supplemental rounds, but after that there aren't any players with abilities worth noting. After about the third year, I end up scouting new faces for the first few weeks, but then just leave it alone and let the CPU do the rest since by then I have scouted pretty much every player worth scouting in the the previous two years.

Yes indeed Adam Dunn is a beast. I hit over 50 home runs with him in his first season with us. I then re-signed him to a ridiculous $12 mil per year contract, even though I could have signed him to $6+ due to the way contracts are attached to overall ability rather than stats. He is on pace to hit another 50 this season. I can't remember ever hitting a home run with him that wasn't a no doubter "Oh boy, and Adam Dunn has got himself a home run" cut scene. If all goes well, he is going to retire an A with over 600 career homers.

Yeah, I just decided to switch to timing hitting. I get more realistic stats, and not 0 hits per game, so it's more fun.

Does anyone play their franchises the day your team plays and then use the other time to do roster, injuries, etc updates. I think once Knight releases his final roster I will do this. I will sim spring training and then play the first few games till i get up to date with my team. I feel this could be a great way to play the game for along time.

                      Any thoughts?

Just by dumb luck I happened to play the Mariners opening night game while I watched the actual game on my pc. But now I'm at the end of April, so that didn't last long.

Trying a Fantasy draft Franchise w/ The Cubs.

SP Rotation: Lester, Morrow, Matsuz, Pineada, Casey Kelly

RP/CP Bard and Krimbel from what I could remember

                          Bats: Carlos Gonzalez/Ryan Howard/Starlin Castro/Chris Young/Ian Stewart/Mike Stanton

Settings: Right now I'm Playing on veteran on all accounts.

Played 1 Game so far, Hit 3 HR's and Won 10-2 Which is huge for me because I stink on this game at hitting. Total Record is 5-7 So far.

Had to go to PT, so I have to start game 1 over. Switched to timing hitting, so my 2nd rated batting (woo!) can actually play like the 2nd-best.

Also, I need a good, young SP that's not impossible to get and has at least 4 pitches (so no Banuelos)...any ideas? I usually get Arnoldis Chapman in my bullpen, but my RPs are pretty decent, and I have a good rookie with good potential, so I need a solid starter that doesn't have a gigantic contract and is pretty young.

After a nice 6 games winning streak for my A's, we have now lost 7 of the last 10. The last two losses were particularly heart-breaking as they were both walk-offs by Division-Leading Seattle. Both came off of Andrew Baily, who had previously been 3 for 3 in save opportunity's. We now sit at 9-10 with one more game against Seattle then, off to L.A. for a three game set followed by a four game home stand vs. the Rangers to end the month. If I don't get things turned around I may end up in the cellar before the end of May.

Wasn't sure where else to put this -

                                Are sim stats/boxscores messed up?

I played opening day and the simmed 5 straight. Rangers scored 5 or more in all games but 1. They lost 2-1

In the game I played I hit 3 home runs. In the simmed games the box scores showed a total of 11 more home runs hit.

But, when I check stats it shows my team has only hit 6 home runs for the season. What the what?
