Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

I'm on game two of my Franchise season with the Mets. I look terrible. I was actually winning game one till the 9th when KRod gave up a HR that tied it to John Buck. I was pretty pissed by this point. Then I make it to 12 without scoring and Gee ends up giving up 3 back to back hits, we go down for the loss. Game two was just a blow out Pelfrey was terrible but not as bad as my offensive. I struck out 10x to Vasquez who is now the NL leader in strikeouts. I have such a hard time hitting. When I dont swing they pitch strikes. When I swing the pitch is a ball lol

Pelfrey has been horrible for me too. I have removed him from the rotation his era is 5.97 after 1 month into the season.

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

Started a franchise with the Pirates. Usually I'd use the Yankees, but I want a challenge. Plus, no one will trade with NY, so I can't rebuild to make it a challenge, and with the Pirates, it's a challenge.

First thing I did was I signed FA Ben Sheets to a 2-year contract. Ended up retiring after year 1, so yeah, didn't do much.

Then, I traded Andrew McCutchen for Manny Banuelos, Andruw Jones, and Melky Mesa. The Yankees got a top-flight OF who could play at LF for Gardner if need be, and who hasn't even hit his prime yet.

I simulated a few months into the season and Banuelos was struggling, and since I picked up a very solid Gerrit Cole in the draft (I made him a super rookie, since he's supposed to be better than Strasburg), I traded Banuelos for Arnoldis Chapman on the Reds. They get their SP of the future, while I solidify my bullpen even more.

Then, towards the trade deadline, Jose Tabata was having an All-Star season, and since I knew he'd demand a lot cause his contract was expiring, I traded him for Nick Markakis and Derrek Lee.

Offseason hit, and I lost Andruw Jones and Derrek Lee, two key players in both trades. I tried to get David Ortiz, but got another 1B instead. But I got a small upgrade at C in Jason Varitek. Also, I picked up this 26 year old SP and 26 year old CF that I forgot the names. But productive offseason!

Does it matter if you skip Spring Training? Will this have ANY impact on my players? (ie. health, form, confidence etc)

I play every single game of the regular season, so I'd rather not waste my time on the pre-season.

                  It has no impact.

And also, is there any way to load an ACCURATE roster with injured players?

I've decided I'm sick to death with obsessing over settings and precise accuracy. I bought this game to play some damn baseball, and I've spent a week waiting and playing with the options.

Is there any way to just launch into a franchise with MLB opening day rosters as they were? I really don't have the time or patience to manually injure any more players.

You can use the 25 man rosters that are on Sports connect. HustlinOwl did them. Only problem is that the CPU wont add to its 40 man roster.

I'm finding it so hard to start a franchise. Do I spend hours obsessing over detail, or just say "screw it" and don't sweat it?

Just say screw it and start a franchise. The Show is meant to have fun, not stressing over minuscule stuff.

Dam, I wanna start a new, more realistic one, but I can't find any good rookie pitchers that have any sort of chance at even being good...I mean they only progress like +2 every season and start at like 40...

Well after starting my Phillies franchise things are not looking good.

15-15 after the first month a few days, I am playing every 3 games and have a 4-1 record myself.

Pitchers are doing amazing all under 2.5 ERA but my team just can not hit, Victorino and Utley are posting under .200 average and with only one player batting above .300 (Ibanez)
Howard is leading the league with homeruns (11) but the team just can not put anything together.

If the month of may goes the same way I may have to make some changes.

I just said screw it and started. I wanted all of the real players in the game but, I don't care about 100% correct batting orders/40-man rosters, etc. I mean, really it's going to change so much anyway that I don't see why so many people stress over it. I mean, who would have thought that Carl Crawford would be batting 7th in the first week of April? Nobody probably but, if that lineup happen in the game people would have thrown a fit. Point is-- you're never going to get it perfect unless you go day by day and spend hours and hours getting the correct lineups in. While that maybe the way some guys want to play and I have nothing against that but, it's just not for me.

Anyway, the day after the OSFM was released I just skipped Spring Training and jumped in with both feet. The only thing I did that followed real life was I turned injury's off through Spring Training and added in the most of the major league injury's (Utley, Wainwright, B.Wilson, etc.) when the season started. Then, turned injury's back to ON so that I have "fantasy injury's" but, I will add in occasional real-life injury's at times just for the hell of it.

I wanted to pick a team that I think could contend for a playoff spot in year one but, isn't necessarily a "playoff team" so I ended up going with the A's. The finished with a record of 81-81 last year and have a solid all-around pitching staff but, their lineup is mostly comprised of journeyman with a few young guys mixed in. Plus, Josh Willingham is one of my favorite players because he's from around where I grew up in Alabama.

I'm nine games into my season so far. I'll post an update later tonight or tomorrow.
