Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

I still can't pitch for ****. Here's the embarrassing part, I'm using rookie pitching difficulty. I'm just awful. After giving up the 4 consecutive HRs to the Jays, I played the RSox. First pitch of the game, HR. Second batter, HR. By the end of the 1st inning it was 5-0. I didn't pick up a hit til the 4th, which seems random for me. I usually either explode for runs, or barely do anything.

So anyway, I just kept giving up more HRs and eventually trailed 9-0 in the 9th before tacking on a couple garbage runs to lose 9-2. Gave up 7 HRs in the game, making it 12 HRs allowed in the last 2 games. Now on a 3 game losing streak and 5 of 6. I use metered pitching, and as mentioned I'm on the wussiest difficulty level and still get shelled. Is there anyone else as bad as me?

Pretty much. I played it on ps2 a few years ago and liked it, but last year was my first venture into current gen baseball and I went the 2K route. Been playing '11 for a few months now and it's pretty fun, I just expected to master rookie pitching by now and need to bump it up. We're actually ranked way up there in K's but it seems like if I don't get a strikeout it's a hit.

It takes awhile but you'll probably get used to it. I know when I first got the game I was ridiculously bad at both hitting and pitching, but I've gotten better the more I play. I'm on veteran with analog and I doubt I'll ever go above that this year.

The main thing is just being able to get somewhat close to the line in the meter and the circle at the top, otherwise you're going to leave pitches way over the plate and/or not where you wanted them to be. Another thing is you don't have to quickly flick the stick up all the time. You can just move it up at a normal pace and it'll save your pitcher some energy. It helps a lot if you try to go slow on pitches like sliders, changeups, etc and flick fast on fastballs.

I actually do edit every team. It took me 1-2 weeks but I finished.

What do you have the CPU pitching sliders set at? I'm getting ready to start up a Rockies franchise on Veteran using Analog hitting.

                    Home Field: Polo Grounds

In the late stages of May in this New York Met franchise, manager M. Knight has had little in the way of obstacles. His pitching staff, which was(and still is for sure) the only question mark on this club, has performed way above any expectations. Considered mediocre as the season started his starting staff, from his ace to his fourth pitcher have been nothing short of spectacular. Of course one good cold streak or a prolonged injury to any of the starting staff could be trouble as the organization falls off the deep end in terms of talent and would have a tough time weathering such an event.
The offense, the strong point of this club is performing as expected and has even come out of it's early season doldrums in the HR hitting department as both C Smokey Pollock and 3B Eddie Collins(the teams early season MVP candidate) now sit at 13 homeruns tied for 5th in the N.L.
With a 42-9 record, 10 games in front of the second place(WC leading) Atlanta Braves, the Mets suffered it's first test of the young season. In game 2 of a three game series vs. the 2nd place Cubs, Mets CF and leadoff hitter Jay Stapleton suffered a dislocated shoulder in a 9th inning leaping grab off the bat of Cub catcher Kyle Parker.
Leading 9-1 at the time, Knight said "I subbed out Bryant in RF with Gillespie. I guess I should have subbed out Jay instead." he said. "But that's the game, we'll have to deal with it. Tough break." Stapleton, the Met catalyst was hitting .331 with 1 homerun and 11 SB's.
Getting the call up from AAA is 2B/SS Ozzie Martinez.

Yea I treat the Show as its own baseball world. I never understood the whole keeping your team/the league with the same rosters as real life.

I treat franchise as my own challenge, see how I can do with the roster that my team had at the beginning of the season. I usually don't make any drastic moves (don't need to as a Phillies player ) but for example, I don't have Pence on my Phillies team. Of course I haven't gotten to the trade deadline yet so I may by then but I also might go for another right-handed bat (I do need one).

Although I am VERY tempted to adjust John Mayberry Jr.'s stats considering he is horrible in The Show and is tearing it up in real life (he just might win the LF position this year). But I know that the Show's ratings are based on a player's entire career and I am looking to continue this chise for a while so I'd rather not edit someone to be higher just because they're on a hot streak (JMJ might start sucking again next year, who knows).

This does mean I got to start on opening day with every other team's most hated Phillies player, Chase Utley.

Game six of my franchise... got blasted in the series finale in Toronto 12-2. they hit every home run except the two run variety against me. Trevor Cahill just didn't have it for his second straight start to start the season.

well it is time to to to Minnesota for my first ever series at the new outdoor park... hopefully i won't start another downward spiral as i started the season against Seattle.

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

So since I've finally "got" analog hitting, decided to start another franchise using purely analog controls, veteran everything (for now), strike zone off, guess pitch off, API off.

Picked my Phillies again and decided to use Spring Training to hone my stick skills.

Unfortunately had to start off with two games against the Yankees, lost the first 6-0 and the second 5-3.

Headed to the Blue Jays after that and won in the 11th 2-1. I scored my first run in the 8th with a RBI single from Polanco. Then they knocked in a dinger in the bottom of the 8th to tie it up.

Luckily my pitching locked them down, giving up only one single until the 11th. Jimmy Rollins hit a leadoff double and I pinch hit with John Mayberry Junior in place of the 0-4 Victorino. He hit a double to drive in Rollins to take the lead. Kendrick was pitching and got through two outs before letting a baserunner reach 1st. Brought in the Maddog to get the final out and his first save.

I definitely need to continue working on my analog hitting in practice mode but I LOVE the feel you get with this hitting interface. Nearly feels like you're swinging the bat yourself. In the 2nd Yankees game I hit a solo shot with Ryan Howard and man, it just feels great with analog hitting. Zone is still easier, but I feel like once I practice more, I can really control my swing a lot better with analog. I've already gotten a few jammed hits or choked up on something for a single which I never got with zone.
