Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

What's the difference between starting a season and starting a franchise?

I haven't received any answers on my own thread so I hope to get an answer here, thanks.

A Franchise gives you the ability to run more than one season, while a season only lets you play the one season. I'm not sure what the upside to playing Season Mode is.

Not true...Season mode is multiple seasons just like franchise, with a full offseason, free agents, retirements, etc. What it lacks is minor leagues (each team has a reserve roster on which extra players can be placed), any aspect of the off the field business (that's a long list, too many things to just name off), and player training.

Same here. I will draft a team, play one or two games and then just quit and do another fantasy draft. I think I enjoy the actual drafting more than playing with them, I guess I just don't like how everyone is on different teams, kind of takes the realistic aspect out of it.

Decided to start up a franchise with the Mariners instead of the Pirates. The Pirates have a bunch of good young players with short contracts, so you run out of $ quickly, plus they turn into the Yankees after like 5 years. With the Mariners, I get a good young player to build around (if you don't know who I'm talking about, please stop watching baseball), but they don't have a ridiculous amount of good prospects.

Anyways, simulated the first season so I could draft and play with my rookies, and so I could do some marketing to max out my stadium vendors and make some money. I simulated to the draft and picked up this solid RF at #2 overall with GREAT baserunning and fielding and pretty good contact, along with maxed-out potential...he's basically the next Ichiro, and that helps, since Ichiro retired. Then, got to the All-Star break and had a few All-Stars (Felix and someone else). About a week before the playoffs, I had won like 75 games, and was in the division lead. Simulated the last week, and got swept, making me miss the playoffs.

I re-signed most of my key FAs, but my CP left, and I ended up signing this much worse CP. But, I signed Jed Lowrie, Julio Lugo, and ROY OSWALT! Oswalt, coupled with Felix, gives me the best 1-2 punch in the league.

About to play opening day of 2012!

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

Had a chance to sweep a 4 game set agianst the Twins. Lost games 3 and 4. Game three hurt the most. Tillman went 6 innings, gave up 2 hits and 4 runs. Lost 4-3. Tillman gave up a double, walked a batter, hit a batter and gave up a grandslam to the Twins number 8 hitter. It was embarrassing.

Game 4 was exciting. Bergeson, got roughed up early for 7 runs in 3 innings. I stuck with him though because I needed to rest my bullpen with the Yanks and Red Sox coming to town, so he settled in and pitched well. We managed to score 3 runs in the 5th and 6th innings, to make it 7-6. I decide that since Bergeson is at 89 pitches (I usually pull my guys around the 90 pitch mark.) and Delmon Young is up before three lefties and I have Gonzalez in the Pen to face them, He can go after Young. Pitch 90 is a ball, so on pitch 91 I tried to throw a fastball just off the plate but it backs up to the heart of the plate and a 7-6 game is now 8-6, and I couldn't get any closer.

So I sit at 9-10 on the season with 6 games at home against the Yankees (1-2) and the Red Sox (first meeting this year.) Only 2 games out of first in the AL East. I also have my 1, 2, 3 starters going against New Yorks 3, 4, 5 so I am hoping to take 2 of 3 from the Yankees and see what happens against Boston with the bottom of my rotation.

I love all my young arms. The only one I am struggling with is Matusz. He has an ERA of 7.79. It's the hitch in his throwing motion that is throwing me off. If I can't get it figured out in the next two starts I plan on changing his motion in May.

Best 1-2 punch in the league? You don't even have the best 1-2 punch in the division. Good luck against those A's my friend haha.

So having Felix and Roy Oswalt isn't the best 1-2 punch in the game? If you're implying the best pitcher in baseball and one of the best pitchers in baseball aren't better than Cahill and Braden, you know NOTHING about baseball.

Can't take a little rivalry ribbing? Son, I have been following baseball probably since before you were born. And if you think Braden is one of the A's best pitchers, you obviously don't know the A's that well. Cahill and Anderson are the most talented, with Gio trying to push his way into that mix. Indeed, the A's had the league's best ERA last year. Felix is a stud and super star, no doubt about it, but Oswalt is on the decline. Together, they make a pretty damn good 1-2 punch, but to say the best in the league, and then the best in baseball, well that is a pretty bold claim and purely subjective at best. Better than Halladay and Lee? Carpenter and Wainwright? Linecum and Cain? C.C. and.....ok bad example. Questions like these are subjective at best. In real life, I wouldn't look forward to the A's having to face King Felix and Roy Oswalt on a regular basis, nor that youngster Pineda.

Well, he said in the game so maybe the 1-2 pitchers you listed aren't still together, also I agree with what you said I don't know why that guy said you know nothing about baseball A's have one of the best rotations, and is young. I also, thank you for complamenting Halladay and Lee.

One quick question.... Is anyone noticing a high number of injuries/errors when simulating? I try not to look at the scores when simulating (so I can enjoy the great new in-game score ticker), but it seems there are at least 3-6 injuries a day. Also, a lot of the offense seems to be happening early in games. Not game-killers just wondering if this is something I'm sensitive too or could be tweaked in a patch.

No, I was just saying that both Oswalt and Felix are better than any pitcher on the A's. No doubt, the A's have the best young rotation in baseball by far, but in the game, I have one of the best 1-2 punches. I didn't mean the single best. Also, I'm a Yankees fan, so my rivalry is the Red Sox

In the sliders turn the injury frequency to the left.

You can argue you that, Cahill can be just as good as Oswalt, and I went back and checked you said you had the "best 1-2 punch in baseball," so be careful when your saying stuff people will take it out of hand.
