Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

In my MLB 09 Oakland Athletics franchise (in 2011 now), I won the final game of the Tampa series 7-5 to sweep them and go to 5-4 on the season.

Next was a series with the Cleveland Indians

Game 1, pretty dissapointing. Another bad start by my starters, Snell gave up 6 runs in 5 innings. But my bullpen was stellar though and we crawled back to tie the game at 6. I had my chance in the bottom of the 10th, man on 2nd no outs. I choked and the Indians got out of the inning unscathed. Then as I figured would happen when I failed to capitalize on that opportunity the Indians blew up Joey Devine in the 11th and scored 5 runs and went on to win 11-5.

Game 2, Arroyo struggled really bad. Don't remember how many runs he gave up, but we lost 10-6.

After this game I went to free agency to look for some starting depth just in case these struggles continued with my starters. I signed Bartolo Colon and assigned him to Triple A for the time being, he'll probably be the first called upon if I decide to give up on one of my starters. I also made a very nice discovery to help out my bullpen. Billy Wagner was unsigned, so I signed him to a 1 year deal worth $5.3M. This could really help me out, as I was looking for another lefty in the pen, as Will Ohman, my closer, was the only one. Hope he works out.

Game 3, Wil Ledezma was on. He went 6 2/3 striking out 7 and only allowing 3 hits. Bill Hall knocked in our lone runs on a 2 RBI triple in the 2nd. Billy Wagner was impressive in his first outing for us, going 2/3 of an inning and striking out both batters he faced. Will Ohman came in and shut the door and got us back to .500 at 6-6.

I'm thinking about possibly making Wagner the closer though, because he is really overpowering. But Ohman has been great for me, not allowing a run in 5 1/3 innings and collecting 4 saves. But he is not as overpowering as Wagner. I think I'll wait it out and let it play itself out and make a decision later.

To all of you who re-created classic players, thank you!
I made a roster set that combines current players with players from the late 80's and 90's, it's a blast.

I merged not only stars like Tony Gwynn and Mike Piazza but also guys like Charles Nagy, Carlos Baerga, J.T. Snow, Tony Womack, Rod Beck etc.

It's a ton of fun, there are some serious powerhouses:
--Red Sox (add Boggs, Nomar + Pedro, Clemens 1-2)
        --Cardinals (3-6 of Pujols/McGwire/Holliday/Edmonds)
        --Yanks (Bernie, O'Neill, Mattingly + Wells/Pettite/El Duque)

I am the Giants (Bonds, Kent, Will Clark!) -- we are 17-9. Bonds/Posey are mashing. Matt Williams is hitting around .150. Brian Wilson has been lights out.

The Mariners and Yankees have the best records- I expect the M's to keep it up with the Randy/Felix 1-2 and a lineup with Ichiro/Griffey/Edgar/Olerud/Buhner etc.

I see the Red Sox, Mariners, Giants, Braves, and Yanks as the title favorites.
The Dodgers and Rockies are respectable division foes with additions of Piazza, Hershiser, Larry Walker, Shawn Green, Raul Mondesi etc.

With a little imagination, it's a blast existing in this fantasy land, where the last 25 years of baseball meet!

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

I got a PS3 and the game last week, and finally started a franchise using the Astros.

My first game against the Phillies I lost 3-2. I had a chance to tie it up in the 9th but couldn't capitalize with runners on 2nd and 3rd.

The second game I lost again to the Phillies I believe 12-3. Chase Utley absolutely destroyed me, and my reliever got rocked so bad that I sent him down right after for Aneury Rodriguez. Bill Hall had 2 homeruns for me, but outside of that I didn't do anything right.

Then I played the third game. Bill Hall had another homerun, but I was down 3-2 and was able to tie it up on a Michael Bourn home run in the 7th, and things finally swung my way in the 9th. I hit a sharp ground ball to Polanco who wasn't able to handle it, and I took advantage and put 2 runners in to give me a 5-3 lead going into the bottom of the 9th. Lyon closed it out and I got my first win ever in MLB 11 The funny thing is is that Aneury Rodriguez got the win for me. I was so pumped after that win that it was hard to fall asleep, and I finished that game around 1:15 in the morning. It's incredible how realistic and exciting this game is.

Today I played the first game of 3 against the Reds. I got off to a good start when Hunter Pence hit a home run to dead center (The balls seem to fly out of Great American Ballpark), but J.A. Happ left some pitches hanging and gave up 3 home runs (2 with 2 outs and nobody on, those killed me), giving them a 4-1 lead. I pinch hit Happ with Inglett and he hit a home run to make it 4-2 going into the 9th, but I failed to get anything else across and lost to put my record to 1-3.

I can tell it's gonna be a tough season, but It's definitely a lot of fun. I can't wait to get home and play a few more games.

I'm currently 2-1 with the Phils. I just played a 25 inning game (), and won 2-1. I don't understand how a) I only was able to muster 2 runs in 25 innings and b) how the Astros completely choked every time they got someone on 2nd or 3rd base.

Screw it, I'm gonna continue my franchise full of very highly-rated players. Half of them don't even play like their ratings anyways, so it evens out, with a good amount of maxed out batters and pitchers.

Two more ST games down, and the roster is no where near set. The offense finally came alive - Cano with 3 HRs in 2 games really set the pace for the rest of the club.

                Game 5: 11-5 W v. Tampa Bay
Cano went 2-3 with 2 HRs, Teixera added another shot, and Martin tacked on a run in the top of the 9th with his 1st HR. Colon got the start and pitched very well - 3.1 IP, 3H, 1ER, 0BB, 2K. Mark Prior really struggled (he was called up before the game, as all "real life injuries" were applied to all teams - he took Marte's roster spot after he was placed on the 60-day DL), going 1.2 IP, allowing 3 runs on 3 hits including a monster HR to Johnny Damon.

                Game 6: 7-3 W v. Boston
Cano again took home player of the game honors: 2-2, HR, 3R, RBI, BB. The Yankees fell behind 3-0 early, but never gave up, pushing across 3 runs in the 4th and 4 in the 5th to take home the win. Joba Chamberlain was the star on the mound, going 3.0 IP, allowing 4 H, 0 R, 1 BB and 2K in relief of a not-so-sharp Sabathia (3 ER in 4 IP).

Position Battle Statistics: (current leader in green, if there is one)
                Eduardo Nunez: 1-5 (.200) 2 RBI, 0BB/2K
                Ramiro Pena: 1-7 (.143) 1 R, 0BB/1K

                Ivan Nova: 0-0, 0.00 ERA, 3.0 IP, 0H, 0ER, 0HR, 0BB, 2K, 0.00 WHIP
                Joba Chamberlain: 1-1, 2.08 ERA, 4.1 IP, 5H, 1ER, 1HR, 1BB, 3K, 1.38 WHIP
                Bartolo Colon: 1-0, 1.42 ERA, 6.1 IP, 3H, 1ER, 0HR, 0BB, 3K, 0.47 WHIP
                Freddy Garcia: 0-0, 0.00 ERA, 3.0 IP, 1H, 0ER, 0HR, 0BB, 4K, 0.33 WHIP
                Andrew Brackman: 0-0, 0.00 ERA, 1.0 IP, 1H, 0ER, 0HR, 0BB, 2K, 1.00 WHIP

                Ryan Pope: 0-0, 0.00 ERA (3GP), 3.0 IP, 1H, 0ER, 0HR, 0BB, 4K, 0.33 WHIP
                Luis Ayala: 1-1, 9.00 ERA (2GP), 2.0 IP, 5H, 2ER, 0HR, 0BB, 0K, 2.50 WHIP
                Steve Garrison: 0-0, 4.50 ERA (2GP), 2.0 IP, 2H, 1ER, 0HR, 0BB, 0K, 1.00 ERA
                Mark Prior: 0-0, 16.20 ERA (1GP), 1.2 IP, 3H, 3ER, 1HR, 0BB, 1K, 1.80 WHIP

Down 3 games to 1 in the NLCS vs STL. Not looking to good.

Honestly looking forward to next season though. Going with a young staff.

Well I kept my head above .500 for all of April, but now the lack of bats are finally starting to show with the Mariners. Into the second week of May and have lost 5 of my last 6, the only win being a Felix start as he is now a perfect 6-0. Dustin Ackley and Nick Franklin can't get here soon enough.

Playing a Cincinnati Reds season with the first roster official SCEA roster update, so things are a bit outdated but that's just how it is. I like to have realistic rosters, but I don't lose sleep over it.

I'm 13-7 now, 2nd in the NL Central. I actually just won 6 straight games before dropping a 6-2 contest to the STL Cardinals, dropping me a 1/2 game back of the Pirates, who have the MLB's best record.

My starting staff is struggling with ERA's all over 4+ (besides Cueto, in 2 starts as he missed one). My bullpen has come together well. Chapman is in the 1's, Masset hasn't allowed a run yet in like 10 innings, Fisher is in the 3's. I love Jared Burton's pitch repetiore. CUT, RFB, CH, SL. Devastating stuff. Cordero has 5 saves.

Votto is on an MVP pace again, Bruce is mashing the ball, and the surprise has been Paul Janish. Gold Glove defense as usual, but he's got like 5 HR and 10 RBI. I was worried HR totals were going to be too high, but they're balancing out after settling into the game and sliders.

Just now starting a Franchise w/ the O's. I wanted a challenge so that's why I picked them.

Opening day was crazy, @ TB It went 12 Innings and I won 9-7. I got off to a Quick start against Price in the 1st Scoring 5, then fizzled off from there.

Starting a new Tigers franchise for the third time. The first time I was six or seven games in but I decided to start over and use 30 team control and also manually set injuries to start the season. I got three games into my second franchise and already had like 15 HR (despite being on AS and even lowering the power slider quite a bit) so I basically quit that one and decided to not try to do a 162 gamer this year. When Knights new rosters came out I decided to try again, only I will sim to this day so I don't feel that far behind everyone lol. Not sure if ill do every game or two out of every three yet.!

I'm playing with Cleveland. I also play like in real life. So if the Tribe play tomorrow i'll play the game.

I tarded somm prospects for Ricky Romero. I picked Derek Holland of the Rangers and my rotation is now set with Romero-Carmona-Holland-Masterton-White

                              My line-up

                              Sizemore

Left-handed hevay so vs a Lefty I switch-up Brantler and Werglaz for Laporta-Keanrs, Switch Kipnis for Scott Sizemore.

Currently i'm 9-5. I just won 15-3 vs the Orioles. WOn 5-03 yesterday in 12th inning on a Cabrera walk-off homerun.
