Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

I'm 23-19 right now after a 7 game win streak. Tied for first with Minnesota. These are some team stats through 37 games (I've played 43).

My team has been strong offensively but inconsistent. I released Magglio and was able to get Guerrero to DH for me. He was leading the AL in hitting for Baltimore but has cooled down since the trade.

Jackson as you can see started off slow but I have gotten his average up to .235. He also has 3 homers and one big one that won a big game in Minnesota. Guzman was a cheap free agent pick up who I hoped would give me some stability all around the infield. He kept hitting and I have been starting him at third for the past 3 few weeks and he is hitting .330. He's been great with RISP and has had plenty of big hits.

The middle of the order has been strong with Martinez (.317/7/25), Boesch (.289/3/30), Raburn (.275/4/15), and Guillen (.297/4/20). Escobar has been great for the 2 hole hitting .325 since the trade.

Boesch was driving in big runs so I benched Magglio because he was struggling. Then I needed a spark after a huge slump and that's how I got Guerrero.

Then my pitching. Verlander, Scherzer, have been very good. Penny, Coke, and Porcello are coming around. Valverde and Benoit both started off slow but I have slowly been getting their ERA's back to a normal level. Zumaya and Schlereth have been great for me. Schlereth has been a late innings guy for me and has only been scored on 3 times in 15 appearances.

Manny Corpas and Escobar were good pickups for me. I picked up Corpas after Perry went down for a week. I currently have Perry closing in AAA, Corpas was pitching to well to send down. Escobar has been an innings eater in long relief.

I have Andy Oliver in Triple A Toledo who I am considering bringing up. Coke has struggled and Oliver would be a nice lefty to give a shot. But Coke gave me 8 scoreless his last start, so it will have to wait.

Right now after 43 games, Cabrera is 2nd in MVP voting. He's hitting .345 with 14 HR and 36 RBI. He leads in RBI and is 2nd in HR. Verlander is leading all AL starters in All Star Votes (5-2, 2.52 ERA) and Escobar is leading Jeter in votes for Shortstops.

My offense is coming back to earth, the many guys I have hitting .330-.350 are coming back to down to the .300 range with the exception of Cabrera. I definitely feel like this is the most realistic numbers I have ever had in a baseball game and I'm cruising through the season.

I think he'd be a good sign for the guy who lost Lincecum. Frankly, he just needs a league average guy to fill in at the back end of the rotation - it sucks that he lost one of the premier pitchers in the league, BUT having Cain, Sanchez, and Bumgardner somewhat mitigates the loss.
Well...I decided to pick up Sheets. I know he's probably done IRL, but I needed a right handed guy in the rotation. Proceeded to lose the next game 9-1 (not his start), so I guess the team took the news pretty hard

QUESTION: I had to release a guy in order to make the signing...I thought I should have an open roster space because of Lincecum on the 60 Day DL? Not sure exactly how that is supposed to work?

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

Just bought the game yesterday and decided to run with the Mets. 24-19 so far, i've played about 15 of the games. Ike Davis is providing good power, already has 10 homers, Wright is second on the team with 8. I personally have only hit 3 home runs, others simmed.

Interesting note: STL put Pujols on the trading block, i've already tried multiple offers and none took, he better not go to NYY or BOS!

I've noticed that the trading probably won't be as prevelant as years passed. TOR put Drabek on the block and i offered Bay and K-rod, which met 2 of the 4 positions they were looking for and didn't spark even the slightest interest. It's kinda good i guess b/c last year the comp accepted so many trades that wouldn't happen IRL.

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

As the O.S. Full Minors (Knight & Co.) Roster is on its way and is said to be released by Opening Day or earlier, I am getting very hyped up about starting up my franchise. I am leading towards starting a Rockies Franchise, for a few reasons...

          1. I always love a squad with stellar pitching (Jimenez and more)
          2. They are a great offensive squad as well
          3. They have been in close contention for the playoffs but have fallen short because of their failure to start the season solid.

Or, I could always go with my home team the Bucs. I attend some 20 games a year and follow them day in and day out...But I always like to learn about another team and use them in franchise mode...

I think I'm going to go with the play all 162 games for a few reasons...

          1. The franchise bug seems DEADLY, don't want to put in that much time for it to be ruined
          2. I don't want to go through the stress of the work-around
          3. I have NEVER played 162 games, or even came remotely close...

It's been great to read about all of your guys' franchises, I have been silently following without posting. Special thanks to Knight and everyone who assisted him, without these rosters, I may not have even purchaced the game. Bugs? Yeah they can hurt, but it's not reason to immediately turn the game into your local GameStop and go play last year's version...I have been a loyal "The Show" player since 06, making in to 2030 in 07s version. And I am COMPLETELY PUMPED to continue this series again...

I'm doing a Cubs franchise as well. I play one of every 6 games and Garza was awful for me. I ended up moving him to the bullpen about 2 months into the season when he was 2-7 with a 7+ ERA and finally traded him and Reed Johnson to the Braves for an A pitching prospect and Eric Hinske. Marmol was also terrible (0-4 8+ ERA) so I moved Kerry Wood to closer and am using Marmol to set up now. I just got to the All-Star break and am 3 games under .500 but only 4.5 back of Milwaukee and 4.0 back of the Braves for the Wild Card. Ramirez has been my best hitter with a .301 average (only one over .300 in my lineup) and 15 HRs. Pena is hitting about .270 with 20 HRs. I just traded Soriano (hitting .280 with 18 HRs) to the Reds for Aroldis Chapman, a 19 y/o "A" CF prospect, and Yonder Alonso. If I can't get closer in either the division or wild card race by the end of June, I might go into firesale mode and try to get rid of Ramirez, Zambrano, and Pena and get some good prospects to build around. I've got quite a few "A" and "B" potential guys in the minors right now to build around for the future

Just played one of my best games! At Fenway vs Boston. First game they beat me up 10-4.

Fast forward to this game. Porcello is shaky and he leaves in the 7th inning. I'm down 4-1 and it just feels like one of those hopeless games. Couldn't get anything going offensively. Boston's crowd was into it.

Guillen doubles off the tip off Crawford's glove, Raburn scores. Down by 2.

Then Avila comes up, who has been riding the bench since my last trade, and Homers to deep left center field to tie the game. The crowd was dead silent!

Then I bring in Joaquin Benoit and picks apart the heart of Boston's order.

Next inning I bring in Schlereth, who retires Jose Guillen, Crawford, and Ellsbury. At this point I have all the momentum.

Eventually it's the 10th inning. Austin Jackson doubles and advances to third. Then Avila comes through again with a sac fly to give me the lead.

And Valverde comes in to retire Gonzalez, Ortiz, and Youkilis on 6 pitches. Huge win for me.

              I'm up to 25-20 now.

Been plain like crazy as it is Spring Break and I am 28-19 in late may. Just took 2 out of 3 against Boston.

Garza cooled down but still has 4-3 3.44 ERA.
                  Castro,Soto over .300.
                  Pena 14HR's
Lead the divison by about 2 games. This is pretty realistic and fun so far

Havent had any close close game yet. Best game so far was a 2-2 tie in the 12th inning when COL scored and went up 7-2 and I came back and won 8-7 in the bottom of the inning

I did this same thing. I traded Zambrano, Pena, Ramirez, Wood and Dempster for 8-9 prospects that I could work with for many years. Im a big Cubs fan, but when push comes to shove I would rather have prospects than some of the "talent" we have now.

Brad Penny and Phil Coke are amazing in this game, but I'm pretty bad with Porcello.

Yeah I think I'm going to have to do the same. Playing only 1 out of 6 games makes it tough to get on a roll because the team just doesn't perform too well when I sim. I've got a pretty decent farm system going, so I'm looking to load it up a bit more and go strong into 2012

Played the worst game of my life last night. I'm breezing through a lineup of Pirates (who even I haven't heard of) with Verlander. He's thrown 50 pitches through 7. I'm up 3-0. Out of nowhere they string together 6-7 straight extra base hits. I lose the game.
