Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

Well, not sure when I last updated and too lazy to find it. Been studying for an exam, working, spedning time with the wife and kids so haven't played as much as I would have liked.

I couldn't hit a lick on All-Star so I finally gave in and moved it down to Veteran and now I am having close games, where I actually have a chance to win. After the switch I went 1-2 before winning my last 3. I am now 6-7 after starting 3-7.

My last game was the series opener in Boston, it was cold and the wind was blowing out to left at 21MPH! I was up 11-1 when Morrow came out of the game and ended up winning 13-5 (Dotel is a bum). The biggest thing was that I doubled my homerun total on the season in this game from 9 to 18! Yup 9HR on 16 hits!

Rajai Davis got hurt a few games back and I have been starting Corey Patterson, not ideal, but outsode of a trade or getting a crappy defensive CF in Jose Guillen, it was my only option. He was okay, nothing special until this game when he jacked three opposite field jacks up into the jetstream over the monster, LOL.

When he came up late in the game the announce crew mentioned if he hit a 4th he would join a very small cast of record holders with 4 HR. He hit one to the track.

Also HR'ing in the game were Podsednik, Lind, Escobar, Lind, Arencibia and Rivera as a pinch hitter in the 8th. One away from tying the MLB record.

Before anyone says change the difficulty, this is only the second time I have scored more than 5 runs and my team batting average is still in the .230's, LOL. I was shocked, got 4 off of Beckett and then 2 of Wakefiled and 1 each of a litany of other relievers.

It should be a long tired road considering the fans/media I have to deal with.

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

Well i have a feeling im not going to win many games this year if this first game trend continues. well looking at the box score i guess i didn't strike out NEARLY as much as it felt i did. (9) However, Seattle came out with a 7-run 6th and 7th innings to put this one away. Justin Smoak was literally smoking red hot. (4-5, 2 R, 2 RBI, 2B, )

Felix Hernandez was no slouch either against me. (8.0 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 7 K, 0 BB)

Top two players for me were Coco Crisp and David Dejesus. Each one of them drove in a run for me. that was the extent of my scoring however.

Trevor Cahill gave up 8 runs all earned in six and two thirds innings on 14 hits. like i said he was cruising along until the sixth inning. that is when it all fell apart and fast.

I'd swear that the guys at Sony have gotten together with the U.S. Government and gotten a hold of the DNA computer. reason i say this is that it is way to smart for a video game.

when it comes to pitching that is of course. it seems no matter what i do i cant hit. i take pitches they throw strikes, i swing they throw balls... i feel almost as if they are in my head knowing that i have an itchy trigger finger and are waiting for me to make stupid mistakes.

hopefully this doesn't become a trend in my franchise or for my real life A's. cause it could be a very long season for both of us. lost 8-2!!!

Why not just take some team pride and see if you can get your Pirates to the post season. I would presume that your a Pirates fan due to your avatar.

However if you are serious about going ONLY with one of those two teams, lets look into each and see who is the best team to take.

first let us start with the Cincinnati Reds. They are coming off of a Division title, solid pitching staff, great young lineup, solid bullpen. pretty high overall team rating, should be a fun season trying to get them to defend said division title and get them to the world series.

now let us talk about the Rockies, Again some very solid great points. good, maybe not as solid of a starting rotation. good mix of veteran and young talent sprinkled through out the lineup.

if i had to go by which division is the over all most competitive, well i'd say it has to be the NL Central. In my opinion it is a stronger division over all due to level of talent within the division. as you should well know if you are a true black and gold Pirates fan.

in closing, i would have to say that if i was to have to make this choice you have given us, i would chose the Rockies. Reason being i think that it would be much more of a challenge to take them through that division to get into the playoffs.

the Reds are expected to if not repeat, they are expected to be in contention all year long.

So my money is on going with the lesser, more challenging team, the Rockies. hope this has helped you.

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

Just started my Yankees franchise - playing ST to see how things unfold. My offense has been RED HOT... I'm 3-0, with wins of 10-0, 14-3, 9-1. This is with the same set of sliders that I was getting really realistic results with earlier (I played ST with the Yankees before the OSFM ******s came out), so I'm thinking that it's just a fluke and things will go back to being difficult again soon.

Sabathia was decent in Game 1 (all my starters went 3 innings - I put a pitch limit of 45 pitches on them for their first outings) - in 3.0 IP, he allowed 4 hits, walked 2, and struck out 1 - but didn't allow a run.

AJ was awesome - even though he gave up a monster HR to Rollins to start the game... he struck out 7 in 3 innings. He also allowed 4 hits, including the HR.

Hughes was easily the best of the 3 - 3.0 IP, 4H, 1ER (all came in the first inning), 0 BB, 5K - and he was cruising. The hits were ALL soft... just hit to the right place.

My relievers are doing well - but my bench has been amazing. It'll be difficult to figure out who is going to make the opening day ******.

Just played my first game in season 2 (simmed 1st season to do draft). Had my solid TRUE rookie (the one I drafted) starting opening day. We won 1-0, with him pitching a complete game shutout, allowing 7 hits, 2 walks, and 6 strikeouts. And I thought his max was 97 MPH on his fastball ,but I hit 100 a few times

I'm 1-3 with my Pirates Franchise. I can't score (only 11 runs, but 8 in a single game). My only bright spot in my lineup is McCutchen (375, 3 hr, 4 rbi) so i decided to trade for Vladimir Guerrero. I gived them a B prospect pitcher. Hope i can score more with him

I also picked up Tony Gwinn Jr from the waiver to remplace Jose Tabata (091 avg).

I need to have a better pitching rotation, my team have a 5.29 era.

It going to be hard but i knew what to expect with the Pirates lol...

Is there anyway to skip ST without the computer screwing w/your rosters? I ended up with Koyie Hill, Geo Soto, and Wellington Castillo all on the major league roster. Castillo is a stud catcher but why would the CPU have 3 catchers on my roster. And Castillo needs to be in AAA Iowa getting his AB's because he's big time trade bait as is Soto in real life when the time comes to either re-sign Soto, trade him, or trade Castillo. But he's rated C which is a big whiff on SCEA's part.

Anyway, I just hate that I had to use one of his options sending him to AAA.

Just started a new franchise with the Yankees. First thing I did was traded C.C. Sabathia and Manny Banuelos to the Mariners for Felix Hernandez. I know it would never happen in real life, but I think it's fairly realistic for the game. The Mariners aren't anywhere near being competitive and probably never will be while Hernandez is still in his prime. I gave them a short-term replacement ace in Sabathia, and they got a good, young SP in Banuelos, with great potential, to build for their future. It's obvious why I did it because it's King Felix, plus I hate how Banuelos only has 3 pitches.

Then, I traded Andruw Jones and an OF prospect for Nick Markakis, giving me an upgrade over Gardner, while being able to keep Gardner. Andruw Jones is a great power hitter, but I already have lots of power hitters, so I got another contact hitter in Markakis. Plus, I have a young Melky Mesa ready to step up at CF once Granderson is gone.

About to play my first regular season game

Bottom of 8th - With a runner on second, Dexter Fowler doubles off the wall to put the Rockies back on top 8-7
Top of 9th - Houston Street comes in to close the doors. 1,2,3. Rockies win 8-7.

Win goes to Morales who ony had to pitch 1/3 of an inning.
