I think I'm just going to scrap this franchise and start fresh with the Rockies one the Full Minors roster comes out.

      @ Yankees fans: Question:

Using Jorge exclusively for DH or as back-up catcher? Please advise. Ty!

I hate the Yankees and really hate Posada; however, since this is the Show and real life knees are a non issue, I would recommend keeping Jorge as your primary DH and backup catcher. You lose nothing by having him as a backup, save a weak arm and perhaps a few more passed balls, but you gain the ability to have a more versatile backup IF or OF on your roster instead, like Eric Chavez. Last year I had Jake Fox as my backup catcher. I would not want that in real life, but the consequences on the show were nil.

Good call. As hard as it is to believe it's only a vid game. I think Jorge can withstand being backup catcher.

Sitting at 22-16 after losing to the Pirates 3-2 last night. One more game on the road trip then I will finally be back at home. Got the DBags, Brewers and Gnats coming in, before the first interleague series.

Because I like to keep things realistic (while not mirroring real life), I'm going to "pretend" that Jorge really can't catch this year. He'll be my 3rd, emergency (only in case of injury) catcher. I actually switched his position to 1B, and removed catcher... while giving him very low stats in that area. Now if I try to play him behind the plate, I know I'll pay for it.

That's given way to a huge battle for both catchers spots on the team... I thought Martin would be the starter - but Montero is absolutely tearing the cover off the ball, and playing average defense. He's clearly the front runner on my roster right now.

                What about Cervelli?

All 3 are playing exceptionally well... Montero is hitting over .600, with 3 HR, 4 2B, 10 RBIs... just absolutely crushing the ball.

Martin and Cervelli are hitting between .280-.333, but neither has shown much power (2 and 1 doubles respectively). They seem to play similar defense... so it's really uncertain at this point.

My plan was to have Montero start in AAA, and play out the start of the season with Martin/Cervelli... but he now leads the team in HRs, BA, RBIs and OPS... I feel like he's earning a starting spot.

What would you do with this situation?

Looking good. Are you playing all games? I'd be really happy if the Dodgers start out 22-16.

For me, spring training is made for earning spots. Perhaps it is because I use the A's, but no one is safe in my book and everyone on the 40 man roster has a shot at making the team. Anyone who performs well in spring training will make the team, regardless of what position they play. For me, doing this makes the spring training actually matter. Sometimes it doesn't work out so well come the regular season, but at least they got their chance.

My god I'm awful. Just played my 2nd game, against the White Sox. Pavano vs Buerhle. Started out okay, then I gave up 3 runs in an inning ,and it was all downhill from there (again).

I got a triple with Span and actually batted him in to make it 3-1, but then I ended up giving up 5 more runs, and got frustrated so I simmed to the end and lost 9-2. This was a huge game because it was a divisional game and I'm only playing a 14 game season. Not good. In the market for a starting pitcher right now. Liriano and Pavano just are not good enough.

So true... and where I don't have a "settled" spot coming in, it's pretty much up for grabs. That being said, I figured that it was settled that Martin would be my starter, and Cervelli was the back up... and that Montero would get his shot at the first injury or in a few months. I figured I'd hit ok with him in ST (he's rated lower than Martin, and I think just at or below Cervelli, but I can't remember) and then send him off to AAA... I never thought I'd see this kind of showing... and it's making me rethink things.

The same thing is happening with the Nunez/Pena battle for back-up INF. I figured that Nunez would run away with it... instead, Pena has been dominating on both offense and defense.

The really interesting thing is that Andrew Brackman is actually showing some incredible promise. 9.0 IP, 2H, 14K. Granted, he hasn't pitched more than two innings in an outing, but he's making me give him a second look. I can't imagine giving him the #5 spot right away, but he's probably the #1 call up.

Game 1 of my franchise. Latos vs Wainwright in STL in the rain. Pitchers duel, 0-0 goin going into the top of the 8th. STL had something going in the bottom of the 7th so they pinch hit for Wainwright (plus had a high pitch count). New pitcher is Batista (can't remember) and Maybin leads off with a triple so i pinch hit for Latos (mistake). I hit a sac fly to bring him in and thats all i get. 1-0 Padres going into the bottom 8th. Mike Adams comes in, first pitch gives up a HR. Then gives up 3 more runs. Franklin in for STL, top 9th, lead off double. Then a 2run HR cuts it to 4-3 with 0 outs but I can't get anything else. Lose 4-3.

Well you have the Yankees, so most of the spots are set. With the A's, pretty much any position is up for grabs, save catcher, so it always makes for an interesting spring training. I can understand why people that use teams like Yankees or Red Sox would rather just skip spring training, but teams like the A's need that in order to figure out the lineup.

By the way, how is Eric Chavez doing for you? Are you giving him a chance in spring training? Because it is a game and not real life, thus no shoulder or back injuries, you won't be disappointed with his defense. He would make a great backup, and hits righties pretty well. While he isn't Aroid, he can certainly hold his own as a backup
