      Through July

Rode hot pitching from Strasburg and Turner and managed to scratch out a 17-9 record for the month. Chris Carter was hot all month and is emerging as a pretty important cog in the lineup. Maybin has been unable to re-capture whatever it was that got him to that ridiculous April he had.

      NL West:

      Dodgers 58-50
      Diamondbacks 58-50
      Giants 58-50
      Padres 54-55Rockies 47-61

      Batting:

      Cameron Maybin .294 AVG/11 HR/49 RBI , .816 OPS
      Matt Diaz ..270/8/38, .752 OPS
      Chris Carter (A's prospect) .264/14/40, .744 OPS
      Travis Hafner ..229/12/39, .675 OPS
      Brian Roberts .297/14/41, .857 OPS
      Pedro Ciriaco .252/6/30, .725 OPS
      Brett Lawrie .250/5/33, .647 OPS
      Nick Hundley, .239/5/19, .749 OPS

      Mike Morse .284/7/24, .835 OPS
      Gregor Blanco .247/1/11 .634 OPS
      Ryan Roberts .230/1/9, .566 OPS
      Bobby Crosby .234/5/16 .737 OPS
Chris Getz .178/1/6 .479 OPS (sent to AAA)

      Pitching:

      Tim Lincecum 11-8, 2.94 ERA, 168 Ks
      Clayton Kershaw 6-10, 3.83 ERA, 142 Ks
      Stephen Strasburg 10-5, 3.01 ERA, 172 Ks
      Francisco Liriano 8-4, 2.68 ERA, 145 Ks

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

Last series of the year, my Tigers are playing Cleveland in Comerica and are clinging to a one game lead over the Chi Sox, who are playing in Toronto. Both teams won the first game, Porcello earning his 18th win of the season.
The second to last day of the season saw Chicago beat Toronto. Tim Lincecum (fantasy roster) took the mound for Detroit and the Tigers jumped off to a 3-0 lead. Then Lincecum faltered and the Tribe took the lead 4-3. Miggy tied the game with his 51 HR I brought Valverde in to pitch the 9th. All fine until Hafner hit a solo shot to take the lead and win the game.
So final day of the season, the AL Central is a two way tie and Wild Card is a three way split. Verlander vs. Carmona. Scoreless duel thru 5, then Avila breaks the tie with a solo shot. That was all the Verlander needed, even though 2 more runs were scored. In the end, Verlander throws a complete game shutout with 7 Ks. Detroit clinched their first AL Central division title and their first division since 1987. The Tigers face the Yankees in the first round of the playoffs.
          MLB: Detroit Tigers
          NHL: Pittsburgh Penguins
          NCAA FB: Penn State
          NFL: Pittsburgh Steelers

Just threw a no hitter 5 games into my Twin's franchise against the Yankees . The pitcher was Blackburn. It would have been a perfect game but my 2nd baseman was out for the day because he was tired so I replaced him with a 3rd baseman I think.

OH well a no hitter is still something to be proud of, my 2nd one so far.. since MLB 08 with Chien Ming Wang
Why did I move here? I guess it was the weather.

Currently 28-17 2nd place Al East with my Bronx Bombers, boston is in 1st with a 29-16 record and Tampa is 3rd with a 27-18 record, took 2 outta 3 against boston, should've swept but bullpen blew a nice 5 run lead, and lost the game, then swept tampa 2 games, 1st game was winning 9-2 into the 9th inning and they put up a 6 run 9th but came up short, next game crush'em 11-1. Then split a 2 game set with Baltimore. 1st 2 weeks of the season my hitting sucked, was caught in between analog or zone hitting, and no good sliders, finally turned it around lead the league in homer's with 70 and triples with 16, 21st in average with a .260.

Started up my new Seattle Mariners franchise last week, using all Analog controls. I'm only playing the games that Felix Hernandez and Michael Pineda are the starting pitcher, and so far I'm off to a 6-4 start.

Seattle's offense is limited, but I can scrounge some runs together. Pitching with both King Felix and Pineda has been a lot of fun.

Limited is an understatement when it comes to seattle's offense...outside of ichiro, they dont really have a consistent offensive threat...hopefully smoak will
live up to his high potential...figgy hasnt been the same since when he was in LAA...neither ryan, wilson, or gutierrez are offensive threats..cust is all-or-nothing...so im sure u will be winning a lotta 1-0, 2-1 games...good luck lol

In my 2nd season near the end of May as the Mariners...probably going to start trading for some starting pitchers and solid infielders. I made an early season trade picking up Grant Balfour to hopefully bolster my pen and I signed Kyle Davies in the offseason. So far I'm 19-19 heading into a home-series vs. Texas.

I hate it when you aren't having fun in your franchise anymore.

So i have started a Phillies franchise and have started 5-1 already have had two extra inning games. Utley has taken over third and PP is manning second for now. Shold be fun.

Smoak is off to a great start for me, and Figgins is on a tear. Ichiro is really struggling out of the gates. Cust is hit-and-miss and the bottom third of the lineup doesn't do much. Milton Bradley (I'm using Opening Day rosters) has been really good, though.

                          ***My April Update***

                          [Through June 3rd]

                          NL Central
                          Reds: 42-16
                          Cubs: 34-23 - 7.5 GB
                          Cardinals: 30-29 - 12.5 GB
                          Brewers: 27-31 - 15.0 GB
                          Astros: 26-32 - 16.0 GB
                          Pirates: 25-34 - 17.5 GB

Since updating my last post, the Reds are still on a crazy winning rampage. Right now, I'm probably better off going after the Wild Card, which I'm leading by a game and a half. I made a trade in mid-May, which I posted in the Trades Discussions Thread. Since then my offense has exploded, as I'm comfortably not known as the worst hitting team in the majors anymore. Borbon has taken the lead-off role and ran with it (literally...). He's hitting a whopping .357 as a Cub with 15 SB (caught only twice). The only standout in my line-up still, is Tyler Colvin. The transition to first base has been easy for him, which I'm very thankful for.

My pitching is still best in the league, mainly because of Dempster, Garza and Wells. Diamond, Grabow, Wood and Marmol have been dominant to make my bullpen one of the best and most dependable in the league. I have no concern with my pitching, except for Carlos Zambrano. I'm going to look to trade him before the deadline.

                          Line-Up
                          1. RF Julio Borbon: .321 - 1 HR - 17 RBI - 25 R - 26 SB
                          2. SS Starlin Castro: .251 - 7 HR - 18 RBI - 21 R - 19 SB
                          3. 1B Tyler Colvin: .321 - 12 HR - 32 RBI - 30 R - 13 SB
                          4. C Geovany Soto: .266 - 8 HR - 18 RBI - 22 R
                          5. CF Marlon Byrd: .305 - 8 HR - 24 RBI - 24 R - 7 SB
                          6. LF Alfonso Soriano: .232 - 12 HR - 31 RBI - 25 R - 8 SB
                          7. 3B Aramis Ramirez: .219 - 7 HR - 20 RBI - 24 R
                          8. 2B Blake DeWitt: .180 - 0 HR - 5 RBI - 5 R - 2 SB
[I have a platoon at 2B. DeWitt faces RHP, Baker/Barney faces LHP.]

I know this has been asked a million times, but I need some advice.

I love a good Franchise, but my problem with the MLB is the 162 game season. I typically play every game in my franchises/dynasties, but playing a 162 game season is out of the question if I want to move on to year two. What is the best way around this problem if I want to still be involved with my teams on the field success?

I love a good Franchise, but my problem with the MLB is the 162 game season. I typically play every game in my franchises/dynasties, but playing a 162 game season is out of the question if I want to move on to year two. What is the best way around this problem if I want to still be involved with my teams on the field success?

2 against other AL teams (18)
                              6 games for interleague (6)

Lets me see every stadium that the Jays play in, and lets me get through multiple seasons. And if I'm in it come September, then I can play every game and get the pennant race feeling and still play only around 60 games which still isn't a ton.

                              • 4 games against division opponents: 2 home, 2 away
                                • X*4 = Z, where X=number of teams in your division minus your team, where Z= the amount of games played
                                • So if I'm the Dodgers, I'd play the 4 other teams 4 teams each. 4*4=16

                              • 2 games against inter-division (NL Central/NL East): 1 home, 1 away
                                • X*2 = Z, where X= number of teams in NL Central/NL East, where Z= number of games played
                                • I'd play the 11 teams in NL Central & East each twice. 11*2=22

                              • Any 6 games of interleague play: 3 home, 3 away
                                • 6 games total - you choose which games

                              • Add 16+22+6= 44 games

I'm going to add a wrinkle and get those 44 games in prior to Sept. 1st so I can pick and choose any game in Sept or all of them if I'm in the race. With aub's strategy you could play anywhere between 40-80 games depending on how successful your team does.

I'm hoping this system will allow my to play at least 3 seasons. I'll mostly likely sportscast the games I don't play using a different profile, so I can keep my game states (the games I play) separate from the simmed ones.

                              Does that make sense?

Play one game per series, if that's still too many, play 1 game out of every 5. It should give you a chance to pitch with a different starter each game. Or maybe even play a week, sim two weeks, play a week, sim two weeks etc...
