Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

^^ I think you'll play Boston because the Yanks have the wildcard and Texas is ahead of you. If you were ahead Texas or someone else gets the wildcard then you'll play Texas.

Wow, just won the World Series in my Rays franchise, year 3, and it was unbelievable. I don't think I've ever had this much fun combined with an up and down feeling with any other sports game before.

I started my franchise with the Rays, for 3 main reasons... Basically no major achievements, low payroll for a challenge, and the cowbells

First year I did a whole "restructure" type of deal. Basically I put Price and my other top 2 pitchers as long relievers and let the CPU deal with trades and everything accept for reorganizing the charts. Did this till all star break first year and acted as if I was the new honcho in charge (since I was using rosters from June I figured I shouldn't mess with them till the nearer to the trade deadline). In this franchise I pretty much handled all but the games, played a few here and there but mostly simmed because I plan to run this for a long time and I'm using it to understand the franchise aspect completely, and I'm used to playing football franchises so anything over 19 games is a long season lol.

First year ended in a 50ish-100 season. 3% less payroll, down to like 63 Mil. Made a few trades for prospects and reliever help (Rays where horrid there) and secured my two RF youngsters and some other core players for longer contracts.

2nd year, ended with a 60ish-90 season... another 3% less payroll and only have 60 Mil to work with. Picked up Andre Ethier and some AAA prospects and went into year 3 with low hopes.

Started off year 3 the first two months hovering around .500, looking at my payroll I new I had two options moving forward, resign Price or Longoria. Very small cap room and no way to get both, I decided to deal Price for to help finish my Bullpen and replace him with a starter. Having an actual bullpen helped out tremendously and along with my starters getting into hot streaks I managed an 87 win season that ended with a 9-1 run to tie the Twins for the wild card.

In the one and down game with the Twins my soon to become favorite player, Matt Joyce, emerged. He hit the go ahead HR in the 8th in a shootout that put the Rays in the playoffs. In the first round against the Rangers, he and Ethier had clutch long balls that clinched the series in game 5 after the Rays and Rangers went back and forth every single game (my pitching was hit and miss... no pun intended).

Round 2 of the playoffs were against the Yankees and like the first round my pitching was spotty (mostly because I don't have a lot of games under my belt other then RTTS and got some young pitchers with clutch issues), but was able to finish them in 6 and go on to the World Series.

This is where it got crazy. Game 1 was at the Marlins (only a 200 mile different between teams, guess I saved on hotel cost), I had a 4-2 lead going into the 9th (thanks to Joyce). My closer, 4 for 4 in the playoffs, blows it and we go to the 11th where I use a guy off the bench who was a bench player all year, no starts, no attention, just used "just in case".... he hits a first pitch HR that ends up winning the game.

Game 2, 3-0 lead in the 5th when my starting pitcher Travis Wood is hurt. Put in a cold reliever and instantly give up 2 points. Take a 3-2 lead into the 9th and my closer blows it again. Top of the 10th, Joyce strides in and bombs one and I think I might have this one. Bottom of the 10th, after an error extends the inning, Hanley hits a walk off 3 run bomb. darn...

Game 3, in Tampa, down 3-2 in the bottom of the 9th and a score off a Longoria rbi double. In the bottom of the 10th, guess who strides up? Mr Matt Joyce, hits a walk off HR and we take a 2-1 lead in the series.

Game 4, gave up 3 runs in 2 innings and my guys went psycho after that. By the 6th I had a 10-3 lead and coasted to a 12-4 win for a 3-1 series lead.

Game 5, trailed 3-2 going into the bottom of the 8th. 2 outs, Ethier gets a base hit RBI to tie it and Mr. clutch himself, Joyce, is up again. He's had an off game but 2nd pitch he sees he belts over the right field wall and we take a 4-3 lead and cowbells are ringing everywhere. Put my closer in (uhh ohh...) after my setup guy gives up a base hit. I get 2 strikeouts and a line to third and the first championship for the Tampa Bay Rays!

Had a blast during this playoff run, since I don't play regular season games except a few (like against the braves) it was fun as heck going through the motions of winning and losing and making every at bat count. Heck, just getting past the one and down and Rangers series was so fulfilling I had no idea the team could go all the way after just making the playoffs. Going to have to enjoy this though, because I don't know if I'll get a cap increase this year, but I'm pretty sure I'm loosing some great guys due to my small pockets

lol sounds like you had a lot of fun. Personally, I like playing most of my regular season because it makes my playoffs even better (since i worked for it). I look forward to playing my playoffs with the Twins and heading into the off-season and making some changes to the roster etc etc. However I don't think I'll be able to play and finish my 2nd year so what I plan on doing is starting a season with either the Rockies or the Reds and doing something similar to what you did. I'll take control into putting a good roster together and playing the playoffs if they make it. Other than that

I'm still on a quest for a world series with these Twins!!....last time I finished a franchise was in MLB 2k10 and with the Yanks and got eliminated 4-1 by boston in the ALCS. I plan on getting my first ring!

I just started a franchise with my Red Sox on Hall of Fame difficulty. It's my first time playing on HOF, All-Star was getting to easy.

I finished off the first series taking the first two out of three from the Rangers. There wasn't much offense to speak of but luckily the Rangers had the same problem as we both batted an identical .196 in the series. The pitching, on the other hand, was great as I had all three of my starters go seven innings or more giving up just four hits or less and had a combined 23 strikeouts. Papelbon got two saves for me in the series, one of which coming in the 11th inning of the low scoring game two.

It should be a great season as long as I get my offense going.

careLOS, yeah I think offense always suffers the most when you go up in difficulty. I'm sure you'll get back into a groove, just like when you were at AS. I definitely HOF offers a very good balance of games and challenges.

I'm thinking about going to start a new franchise today or tomorrow night. Anybody have a suggestion on their favorite places to play? I'm trying to stay away from Cleveland since I heard it's a living hell playing there. Also doing a fantasy draft, that unless I settle on the Pittsburgh Pirates, because I can't take apart my favorite team!

I just started my Reds franchise as I'm a diehard Reds fan. Does anyone know how to keep the ball in GABP. I lost my first game 5-1 giving up 3 homeruns to the Brewers. I won the second game 7-5. I hit 6 HRs and the Brewers hit 5 HRs. So far I'm 1-1. I'm usually a RTTS guy but I needed a change. Playing full games are pretty fun!

I'm playin my franchise with 30 team control and i go through all the messages for each team and clear them out when they come up. Today while clearing them out, every team besides my own has not signed there draft picks that they got in June. Do they eventually do this or do I have to go through each team and sign them? Or do they do it at the end of the season or a certain time in the season. I'm just past the allstar break btw.

To test it out, I would backup your franchise file or save it as two different files just in case an auto-save accidentally kicks into effect. Then, I would simulate to the end of July and see what type of progress has been made and do it again for August and September.

Extended win streak to 5 games on the strength of Carlos Lee's go-ahead, 2-run ITP HR.

Saw a lot of Rangers fans in the crowd. Nice touch.

I'm now 31-50 with Astros. Playing every game.

I may attempt a Pirates/Astros/(insert bad team here) Franchise. I have my Brewers and I need a secondary one.
Any ideas? I would say Royals but they have the chance to be solid. Nationals are another choice.

I'm playing with the Pirates so I would havta say they are a very good choice....They have good young talent especially in the hitting department...Their pitching, on the other hand, gunna need a lot of work...Nice ballpark..Minor league system very barren outside of a few pitchers

I'm in a similar situation... I'll most likely end up playing the yankees in the wild card and they have beaten me pretty bad too...I'll have to get a strategy ready before the playoffs start.

I started a 30 team franchise on '10 using the Braves. I'm a sim most kind of guy so I set my schedule in a way I'd face each non divisional opponent twice (1H 1A) and each divivsional opponent four times (2H 2A) befroe September - when the games I play depends on how my playoff chances are looking. I will get a good 44 games in before September and I'll also have simmed stats because God knows I'll hate .210 if I play all 162 games.

I'm currrently closing in on June with an NL East leading 27-17 record, 1 ahead of the Phillies and 1.5 ahead of the Nationals. The Mets and Marlins are both 8 games back.

I won my last played game 14-5 against the 10-35 Pittsburgh Pirates, getting 23 hits (no idea where the offense came from).

We've got the Marlins coming up next for the first time this season.

                                Team Stats:
                                Batting Average - .271 12th in MLB
Earned Run Average - 3.30 4th in MLB behind the White Sox, Giants, and Rays

                                Rotation
                                Tim Hudson 4-2 3.86ERA 1.41WHIP
                                Tommy Hanson 6-3 2.42ERA 1.15WHIP

                                Brandon Beachy 4-3 4.34ERA 1.47WHIP

                                Bullpen
Kris Medlen (played in 5 games all year, guess we haven't been needing any long relief)
                                Peter Moylan 4.41ERA
Scott Proctor 1.50ERA in 24 innings
Anthony Varvaro (just got called up for Linebrink who wasn't doing so good. He got claimed off the waivers by the Astros I think)
                                Eric O'Flaherty
                                Jonny Venters 0.86ERA , 22Ks, 3BB in 21 innings
Craig Kimbrel 14 saves in 15 attempts. He's 10 for his last 10, all simmed games.

                                Batters
Martin Prado .287, 7HR, 26 RBI - He's been cold lately but therecent Pirates series should get everyone going.

Nate McLouth .219, 1HR, 17RBI - Apparentley he's got the hot bat in the lineup at the moment

Chipper Jones .349, 6HR, 23RBI - Chipper been costing me games defensively. He got absolutely no hustle left he wouldn't field a drag down line or try to score from first on a double that's rolling around the outfield.

Brian McCann .327, 9HR, 24RBI - Hit .181 with 1 homerun and 2 RBIs last month, we got ourselves a different McCann this month.

                                Dan Uggla .260, 9HR, 21RBI

Jayson Heyward .276, 9HR, 26RBI - Been struggling lately but I hit 3 bombs with him in the last two games I've played now he got that fire icon back

Eric Hinske .230, 2HR, 11RBI - Replacing the injured Freddie Freeman (out for up to three months) but hasn't been hitting the ball well enough, as a matter of fact he just got over teh Mendoza line a week ago.

Alex Gonzalez .268, 1HR, 11RBI - Was hitting well in April but he's back to his regualr self.

Martin Prado .287, 7HR, 26RBI - Used to leadoff until he started slumping. Surprising homeruns number though, maybe that is why he's not hitting over .320 like he was all of April. He's swinging for the fences now.

Jordan Schafer .351, 2HR, 13RBI - 26 hits off the bench, should replace McLouth in the lineup but again McLouth is supposed to be hot.

Josh Anderson - Just got called up from Gwinnett where he hit .387 in 40 games

                                David Ross .244, 2HR, 11RBI
                                Brooks Conrad .267, 5RBI
                                Brandon Hicks .217, 3RBI

PS: Not that it matters but the difficulty setting is All Star for hitting and Hall of Fame for Pitching combined with PsychoBulk's slider set.
