As for my season, I just split with the Reds and up to game 3 in Washington. My most recent game I won 2-1 on a Bay solo shot in the top of the 11th. I played the entire game without guessing a pitch, had 8 hits...but struck out 16 times. However , I lost Thole for 1-2 months after a collision at the plate. I now have 3 catchers on the 60 day dl. Some kid who i signed off of FA has been forced into starting duty at AAA.

Not sure how much offense i can get out of Paulino/Nickeas. I am at the trading deadline, so I think it is time to shop for a catcher..

Man, after so much time put into my first year with the Twins, I got eliminated by boston in the ALDS 3-1 all games decided by 2 runs or less. I'm not sure what philosophy to take heading into the second year.

I signed Robinson Cano because I felt I need an offense that needs to be reckoned with and Feel that with the additions of Lance Berkman and Robison Cano, I'll have one of the best offenses. I signed Berkman because Thome retired and I needed a new DH. Berkman also has a decent glove which I can put on the field when other players are tired. I also resigned a lot of my player to trade them because I wasn't feeling the free agents. Right now my line up looks like this

      1. Denard Span CF
      2. Robinson Cano 2B
      3. Joe Mauer C
      4. Justin Morneau 1B
      5. Jason Kubel RF
      6. Michael Young SS
      7. Delmon Young LF
      8. Lance Berkman DH
      9. Danny Valencia 3B

      BENCH
      Michael Cuddyer
      Alexi Casilla
      Ben Revere
      Orlando Cabrera
      Drew Butera
      (cant remember the others).

First spring training vs boston i crushed 11 hits for 8 runs. I felt good with the line up. However I feel like have too many bench players. I resigned most of my players in order to trade them for a GOOD starting pitcher which I need. I also plan on trading Joe Nathan along with that package and use Matt Capps as my closer. However trying to trade is such a headache.

I tried playing around with the trades and the Marlins wouldn't even give up Javier Vasquez for Mauer, Liriano, and Cano ( I wasn't going to do it but really?)....

I'll be checking what I can get for Kubel, Cuddyer, & Nathan. I'm on a quest to demolish boston!! they have eliminated me in mlb 2k9 and the show 11 GRRRRRRRR

I think I may give that a look. I let him play about 5 games after Castro got hurt before I made the move. He is/was hitting .157 and I didn't like him in the field.

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

I started a franchise a few days ago with completely fictional rosters(thanks to raliegh mclure and sluggbugg/others for putting these together)
I changed the rosters a bit(a lot ) before starting by making them more of a 60's style league. Stirrups....equip....facial hair ...etc.

I'm using the N.Y. Mets in Manage only Mode.
I'm playing my home games in the Polo Grounds for the first 4 seasons.
I'll then switch to Shea Stadium for 25 years or so and then to Citi.
I'll also be playing some other team games in the Classic Stadiums as well such as the Phillies(and maybe one other team) in Shibe....the Cards in Sportsman's Park....Washington and Florida in Griffith....Pitt and another team in Crosley.

I'm only 1 week into the season so I won't post stats...but while there are no "powerhouse" teams that stand far and above the rest....the stronger teams in the league/divisions are Baltimore/Tor.....Detroit/Cle.....LA/Oak
          N.Y. N/Atl......Pitt/St. Louis....and L.A. N/S.F

Should make for some very interesting play. So far I'm having a blast.
I've got pretty good power....decent avg. hitters.....pretty good pitching and very little speed. My defense is solid all around with no real standouts except my 1B who is the best defensive 1B in the league. My catcher...while a great hitter is barely average in defense and throwing out runners.
There are some standout players on each club....I'll run them down in later posts.

I decided to go the veteran rental route. i shipped 3 prospects that i had no use for to the Red Sox for Jason Varitek. Whom btw acquired Werth for the 2nd time in my history of the Show. They picked him up last year during the offseason.

Funny how u are the m's and ur offense is the best thing about ur team. I am 13-12 in my orioles franchise and I am still looking to deal Vladimir and d lee for a left fielder and a good sp. Anyone know of any good trade ideas? I need to find someone quick so I can keep pace with the redsox who are now 6 games in front of me after taking two of three from me.

Haha...yeah, I love that guys screen name.

Playing with that groups fictional set is SO much fun.
Learning about all the players from scratch is a blast.
                    I'm loving it.
I'm already starting to hate some players through the league and I know nothing about them yet!

My 3B is Eddie Collins. Probably the most solid 3B in the league. Great power...pretty good contact and defense and an excellent base runner(he's based off a real player...I won't say who in case anyone else plans on using these)...
But there is a 3B on Pittsburgh, Hank Nolan who is a HR monster and I'll see what I can do to ply him from them if they fall out of contention. They shouldn't though as Pittsburgh might be the best offensive club in the league and have pretty good pitching.
Pitt's LF Greenburg is also an offensive machine.
That's a tough lineup to get through.

A week to go before the Non Waivers Trade Deadline and I've pulled off a massive deal in acquiring Jose Bautista from the Jays for my Starting 2B Matt Camp and Minor League Pitching All Star Justin Berg.

Currently 2 games out of first in the Lost Column.

Aramis Ramirez went on a power surge this month and now leads the league in Homers with 31.
Don't you EVER read my blog? It's gotten a lot better.

Started a Brewers franchise as using my O's was too hard around the trade deadline (didn't want to give up any of my guys because they are still with the team in real life).

Named Kotsay the starting CF over Nyjer Morgan and Carlos Gomez due to his veteran bat and ability to hit from the two hole behind Rickie Weeks. It did me a lot of good, as 10 games in Weeks went down with a fractured hand for 1-2 months. It has led me to get 'creative' with my line up in order to put in a legitimate lead off candidate while not losing the rest of my power. So, this is what I trot out:

                        LF Morgan/Gomez platoon
                        CF Kotsay
                        3B Braun
                        1B Fielder
                        2B McGehee
                        RF Hart
                        SS Betancourt
                        C Lucroy
                        Pitcher

Defense is nerve-racking in the infield. McGehee has nowhere near the range of Weeks, and Braun has a sub par arm at third. I have Counsell on the bench, but he doesn't match up offensively to what Morgan/Gomez/Kotsay can do, and that is who I would have to sit for him.

After about a week of this line up, I am 9-8 and just beat Halladay and the Phillies 1-0 in 15 innings. So far, so good I suppose.

The ERA took a hit towards the end of the month as we lost several games by a wide margin.

In my Tigers chise with fantasy rosters, I made it to the 2012 World Series against the Rockies. Split the first 2 games at Coors, came home to Comerica, and I win games 3 and 4 to take a 3-1 lead. Game 5 comes around and its Clayton Kershaw vs Scott Kazmir. Scoreless through 3, but Justin Upton hit a solo shot in the 4th and the Rockies tied the game with a HR in the 5th. Score remains the same, because Kershaw and Kazmir were in the zone. Kershaw ended up going 7, gave up the one run, and struck out 6 but the Tiger's bats couldn't touch Kazmir. I get into a jam in the ninth, with runners of 1st and 3rd one out and a popup to 2nd and a weak hit to the pitcher got me out of the jam. So I come up to bat in the bottom of the ninth, and my 2nd batter of the inning doubles, and Justin Upton comes up. First pitch is a hanging slider, Upton drives it to deep center. I thought it would go past the CF and stay in the park, but the ball kept carrying! Walk-off 2-run HR to dead center to win the WS!

Finally won a Playoff game in my Jays 2nd season. In 2010, the A's swept me. This year, Texas beat me the first game 9-8. I won the second game in Arlington 10-5. Then back in Toronto, I won the next two games 4-3 and 3-2. Next up, ChiSox! They beat the Red Sox for me! Man, I think I was like 3-13 against Boston this season. The door is open!
