Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

Mets update: the Fish took 2 of 3 from me, my pitching went to hell. Johan, Gee and my bullpen got blasted. Gee has been struggling, I might have to call up Humber to take his spot.

Ike continues to be awful vs lefties, I demoted Turner (was getting little playing time with Murph and Hall raking) and called up hard luck Mets prospect Zach Lutz to platoon with Ike.

Perhaps my digital team was looking ahead to next series. Next up are the Braves, who are sitting a mere 2.5 back (as is Philly). should be fun last couple months.

My offensive numbers are the opposite of impressive, no idea how i am winning lol

      Marlins Franchise

Just took the win on Opening Day against the New York Mets. Jose Reyes was the only player to score for them early on in the game where he was active on the bases. He went 2-for-4 with a Double and a Stolen Base which came after he got his 2nd hit ( a single ) and then he got pushed over to 3rd by Angel Pagan's groundout to 1st and David Wright hit a Sac Fly and LoMo's throw was on target to catch Reyes. Logan Morrison went 2-for-4 with a walk off single that drove in Hanley Ramirez. Hanley led the inning off with a double that missed getting out of the park by an inch. Then he took 3rd on a pitch that just barely got away from the Catcher, that's where speed plays a factor. Then LoMo's single through the 1st and 2nd gap brought Hanley home. It was a great game. Hanley was 1-for-3, he sacrificed in one inning trying to help manufacture a run.

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

This is my first update since I've started my Pirates franchise. Currently on the schedule I'm at June 18th. I play on all-star level with my own slider set. I'm also following all up to date transactions with 30 team control provided by strut and I'm playing with Knights and companies roster with real minor leaguers.

As it stands right now I'm at 39 and 34, 4.5 games back of St. Louis. I'm hoping I can catch them once Pulos goes down which should be coming up. Currently I'm in interleague play against Cleveland. I dropped game 1 against them in the 3 game set and was down 4 to 1 in the top of the 7th before busting out for a 4 run rally with a key home run from Overbay and a huge RBI single for Jose Tabata scoring Cedeno. Hanrahan locked it down for his 25th save in 26 tries. Hoping to win the rubber game.

Anyways, I'm having a blast with this game and looking forward to seeing who I get in the all-star game. Currently 3 of the players from my team, Walker, McCutchen and Hanrahan are 2nd in the all-star voting at their respective positions. Veras is pretty high up there as a reliever.

Should be fun to see how the year plays out. Later.

In my Yanks franchise, I'm 57-39 and 5.5 games back of the Red Sox in the AL East. However, I'm heading into a crucial four-game series with the Rays in which I'm a game and a half up in the Wild Card Race. Just a few weeks ago, they blasted me all over Yankees Stadium taking three of four games, but they have dropped their last two to the Sox, while the Yanks split the series with Toronto 2-2 in a four game series following the All-Star Break.

Needing pitching badly, I swung a trade with the A's sending Jesus Montero for Trevor Cahill after the A's expressed interest in the catching prospect. Cahill comes into the rotation with a 2.22 ERA, 102 K's while compiling an 8-2 record.

Montero was hitting just .175 since being called up early in the month and with the plethora of catching propsects in the Yankees system, Montero became expendable for a proven commodity in Cahill.

I had the pick of the lot...Gio was on the block originally, so I went in knowing I could get him at least. The A's for whatever reason wanted a catcher and relief pitching. I could have gotten GG, Brett Anderson or Cahill....had to get Cahill, who's the youngest and best of the three.

Unrealistic trade, but The Show liked it so, I'll take it...

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

A little background on my franchise with fictional players.
                  In the NL East...
                  Atlanta- Solid all around club.
Best position player- 24 y.o. 1B Robin Wolfe ...excellent power
Best pitcher- 35 y.o. SP Sean Spencer.....workhorse...stays in games and keeps his team in
Most likely to surprise- 25 y.o. SS Jonny Couture not a lot of speed, but a good stick for average.
My guess...2nd place 89-73...possible wild card team

Florida- Good pitching but very little offense to back it up.
Best position player- 34 y.o. Anthony Manning...good hitter but not great. Could be a piece for a playoff bound team.
Best pitcher- 27 y.o. CP Matt Bryant brother of Met OF Richard Bryant
Most likely to surprise- 24 y.o. 2B Bryant Gilmore...good speed good stick
My guess....4th place 74-88....dealing at the deadline

Washington- Poor team from top to bottom..not much here to work with.
Best position player- 25 y.o. CF Richard Harp...nice all around player
Best pitcher- 32 y.o. CP Coyote Burch...best is a relative term
Most likely to surprise- 24 y.o. Quinn McNally could wind up as a setup man with a playoff club
Me guess....last place 68-94....dealing at deadline as well...

New York- Like Atlanta....solid all around. Lacks speed..but has good bats and decent pitching
                  Best position player- 32 y.o. C Smokey Pollock...monster with the stick...avg. defender...poor arm
Best pitcher- 32 y.o. SP Sam Hinton...fireballer...must be careful with control
Most likely to surprise-SP Noah Barth...Not overpowering...but has good stuff and good make up.
My guess......1st place 92-70.....looking for that last piece at the deadline

Philly- Not much here to work with either...some good young players...but a few years off..
Best position player- 23 y.o. LF Gregg Dent...nice mix of contact and power.
Best pitcher- 23 y.o. SP Keith Swanson...not a blazer...kind of run of the mill...but can give you innings and has good a good make up.
Most likely to surprise- 21 y.o. RF Dave Strong....right now not really ready, but he does have talent...
My guess....3rd place 80-82......looking for pieces for next year....

Won the 2012 World Series with Toronto. I guess I am done with this franchsie. Back to the NL. Man, I totally forgot how much more strategy it takes to play in the NL! I was out coached at NL stadiums! Can't wait to start my new franchise in the senior circuit! Here are some 2012 stats:

After picking up Trevor Cahill in a trade with the A's, I decided to go with the youth movement and designate Sweaty Freddy Garcia for assignment and promote Sergio Mitre to the Long-Man Role.

My pitching rotation looks like this now:

                          Sabathia
                          Cahill
                          Hughes
                          Burnett
                          Colon

Which should help out my 22nd-ranked pitching, that could vault me over the Red Sox who hold a 5.5 game lead on me. However, my next test is to at least split with the Rays (1.5 games back of my Yanks) in the upcoming four-game series at Tropicana, luckily I don't have to face Price...but, I do have Shields, Niemann, Davis and Hellickson to deal with.

Good pickup on Cahill. For me Garcia is 9-3 and pitching well. I just lost CC for about 3 weeks and am thinking of what it would take to get King Felix in a Yankees uniform. If i can't get him then im going to try to Lilly back from the Dodgers or try to get Nolasco or Josh Johnson from the Marlins.

Just finished the All-Star game. NL won 5-3. We were up 3-0 in the 7th when Papel-blown allowed a 3-run HR to Dan Uggla. NL went on to add 2 more runs for the win.

Also, finally worked out a deal for BJ Upton. Sent him to Oakland.

                                Rays receive:
                                Daric Barton
                                Ryan Sweeney
                                Fernando Cabrera

                                Trade Value points: 11.35

                                Athletics receive:
                                BJ Upton

                                Trade Value points: 12.00

I am happy with the deal. IN THE GAME Barton is a OBP machine. Sweeney has decent speed, a good bat and is under team control for a few more years. Cabrera is a D rated potential pitching prospect. He doesn't have a ton of great attributes. However, he does have some velocity and his K/9 number is through the roof in AA and his overall slider for K/9 is good as well. Plus, he has a very good slider. Due to that, I figure he could be a possible ROOGY if he makes it to the big club. Right now I have him in AAA Durham.
