Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

    Hey Guys,

Just thought I'd let you know what's happening in my Cubs farnchise in 2012.

Right now, I'm in the middle of the All-Star Break and the trading deadline is coming up soon. I'm 2nd in the division behind the Cardinals by 4-5 games or so.

Anyway, here's my team statistics for the whole season so far.

I'm missing 2 or 3 players, but they didn't contribute much as they were only either up in the majors for a few days or got released.

Anyway, here's some of my "notes" about the season so far:

    NOTES

    - Randy Wells and Carlos Zambrano went on the DL last week
    - Mike Fontenot just returned from a long time on the DL
    - Josh Vitters recently called up to be the everyday third baseman, replacing the platoon of Jeff Baker/Blake DeWitt.
    - Vitters is a streaky hitter. Can be hot, can be cold.
    - Jeff Baker super utility man. Started at 5 different positions (3B, 2B, 1B, LF, RF)
    - Ben Revere started out hot, but now platooning in LF with Fernando Perez
    - Starlin Castro and Darwin Barney in top 6 in batting average in MLB
    - Blake DeWitt/Mike Fontenot most "forgotten" players due to Baker being the super-sub guy

    - Matt Garza, CJ Wilson and Randy Wells anchors the rotation
    - Casey Coleman started the season as the no. 5 starter, got injured, now in minors
    - Jeff Manship the team's biggest surprise so far filling in the no. 5 starter slot
    - Anthony Swarzak just called up last week after tearing up AAA, replacing Zambrano
    - One of the best bullpen in MLB, led by Carlos Marmol, Kerry Wood and Sean Marshall
    - Rotation coming out of the all-star break: Matt Garza, CJ Wilson, Jeff Manship, Rich Hill (for 1-2 starts until Wells come back), Anthony Swarzak.
    - Wells to return from DL in six days, Zambrano in September.

    - Team's All-Stars: Matt Garza, Carlos Marmol and Tyler Colvin

    Typical Lineup in recent games:

    LF Ben Revere
    2B Darwin Barney
    SS Starlin Castro
    1B Lars Anderson
    C Geovany Soto
    RF Tyler Colvin
    3B Josh Vitters
    CF Marlon Byrd
    P Pitcher's Spot

    Minor League Report:

    - Brett Jackson killing it down in AAA Iowa after spending first 2 months on DL
    - Dylan Heuer and Chris Carpenter dominating AAA hitters
    - Andrew Cashner below average in bullpen

    Trade Rumors?
    - Want a power bat (rental) for the 3-4-5-6 slot in lineup
    - Keeping an eye on David Wright and Ian Kinsler
    - Wright plays third base, Vitters moves to left field, Revere moves to center field
    - Kinsler plays second base, Barney moves to third base, Vitters moves to left field, Revere moves to center field
    - Want to trade Marlon Byrd, Blake DeWitt

    Thoughts?? Any ideas??

    Thanks!

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

Had my first offseason yesterday and came away with good talent in my opinion, well at least upgrades anyways. Major signings include Rickie Weeks 3yr $9mil, Jose Bautista 3yr $18mil, David Ortiz 2yr $6mil, CJ Wilson 3yr $11mil. Had to let Daniel Hudson go b/c he was asking for $10mil/yr and he got a 5yr deal from PHI and i didn't want him for that.

What i was flabergasted by was that I offered Adrian Gonzalez a 5yr deal worth $105mil and he took BOS offer of 3yr $48mil instead! Oh well at least he didn't inflate my payroll, i've done pretty well with Ortiz so far so i'm happy.

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

106 games into my 2010 Brewers franchise.

              Here's how we look:

              Line-up
              2B Rickie Weeks
Has been performing well at the lead off spot and has hit 18 homers and around 40 RBIs even though he missed 6 weeks due to injury. Looking to lock him up this offseason.
              CF Jacoby Ellsbury
Traded for earlier in the year to add some speed because I am near the bottom in stolen bases. Has been hitting the ball extremely well but has been caught stealing half the amount of times he has actually stolen a base. Also a free agent at the end of the year and most likely will be my current and future CF, so getting him to sign is key.
              LF Ryan Braun
Having a amazing year. Top 5 in the triple crown categories and is in contention for a Gold Glove award. He's already locked up long term but speculation as arose as to a possible move back to third base.
              1B Prince Fielder
Prince has become a King this year with his performance. Currently leads the National League in all three triple crown categories and is now piling on more and more stats, expanding his lead. Currently is the run away MVP at this point and is in for a huge pay day this offseason. I will most likely do whatever it takes to lock him up long term. I guess we'll see though.
              3B Casey McGehee
After starting off the season hot and looking as a legitamate MVP candidate, McGehee has cooled down and is playing as a average third baseman. Very expendable and when his contract ends this off season he will not receive a offer from the Brewers organization.
              C Gregg Zaun
Started off as just a mentor to the young Lucroy, but has become a extremely reliable bat in my lineup. Although his stats aren't through the roof, he seems to hit clutch hit after clutch hit. Most likely will let him walk or retire this offseason due to Lucroy and a few other catchers waiting in the minors for their shots.
              RF Corey Hart
Playing at a average level right now. Already locked up for a few more years and not a single team is really willing to trade for him.
              SS Alcides Escobar
The future of the organization. Although having just a average season, has shown glimpses of All Star potential. A free agent this season, I look to lock him up also for a long term deal.

              C Jonathan Lucroy
The starting catcher of the future.
              CF Adam Stern
A 30 year old Canadian stud who was burning it up in the Minors. Gave this lefty a shot and he has not disappointed.
              CF Carlos Gomez
Moved down to AAA for about a month due to a terrible (below .100) average. Brought back up and has been on fire. Looking to sign him to a long contract this offseason and make him a very important bench piece to the future of this organization.
              2B Bill Hall
Picked up off waivers from the Red Sox the first day of the schedule and has not disappointed. By far the most productive bench player on my team and has earned a new contract during the offseason.
              SS Craig Counsell
Older, doesn't play too well but is a good left bat when I need one. Either he retires this offseason or walks.

              Starting Pitching Rotation
              SP Yovani Gallardo
He is playing extremely inconsistent and not up to what a "Ace" should be playing like. I expected a lot more from him but am not receiving. Will most likely have to look into free agency for a better #1 option and move Gallardo to a #2, maybe even #3.
              SP John Lackey
Came over in the trade with Ellsbury. He is playing pretty well but happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. A solid ERA but doesn't ever get run support when he pitches so his W-L isn't the greatest. Signed to a huge contract, I most likely will trade him this offseason for some prospects to dump some money and try for a better SP.
              SP Randy Wolf
Terrible. Just Terrible. Don't really know what to do with him. No one will trade for him because of his age and I have a problem with just releasing guys and getting nothing for them. Not really sure what I will do with him.
              SP Dave Bush
Would be my starting pitcher Game 1 of the World Series at this point. The most consistent and a legitimate Cy Young candidate this year. With a few SP prospects ready to bump up to the show, it is a huge toss up whether or not I will re-sign him or not.
              SP Manny Parra
Biggest surprise this season. Started in the bullpen and moved into the starting rotation after Doug Davis was picked up off waivers by the Padres. A under 2.00 ERA in around 10 starts this year and doesn't seem to be letting up. Will sign him to a multi-year contract at the end of the season as a a solid #5 Starting Pitcher.

In the bullpen I've got Carlos Villanueva, Todd Coffey, Mark DiFelice, Mitch Stetter, Chris Narveson, Latroy Hawkins, and closer Fernando Rodney (made a trade as Axford was doing terrible). Nothing really much to say about this bunch of guys, other than Hawkins and Rodney, all are expendable.

Trades that I did in my franchise:

              Red Sox get:
              SP Chris Capuano
              CF Chris Dickerson
              LF A Potential Prospect

              Brewers get:
              CF Jacoby Ellsbury
              SP John Lackey

              Angels get:
              RP Trever Hoffman
              CP B Potential Prospect

              Brewers get:
              CP Fernando Rodney

Currently I sit at 63-43 and am 6.5 games ahead of the St. Louis Cardinals and already can't wait for the off season to begin (IMO the best part of sporting video games).

I'll post more updates as the season goes on, we just lost 2 out of 3 to the Astros (lit me up all season). I play every game so we still have awhile to go.

Currently fighting against the Rockies for the NL west lead and the Phillies for the Wild Card spot. Drew Stubbs has been great offensively as a pickup early July as he leads the team with 28 HRs heading into August. My pitching has really been keeping us high above .500, with McDonald, Bucholz, Cueto, Hudson, and Duke. Hudson and Duke struggled the first half but both have had nice turnarounds to begin the second half (combined 6-2 3.75-ish ERA) while McDonald is 3rd in Cy Young voting. No offensive standouts really besides SS Stephen Drew leading the league in doubles (45). I play one game per series unless it is a division opponent (if I'm in a race with them for division standings I play all games/ against last place contender I sim series).

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

From the last time I posted to now, a lot has changed. I should have known that the first game would be an indicator of how things would go offensively for the Mariners. In game two in Oakland, Justin Smoak had two homeruns and we managed to score five runs en route to a win. Seattle is sitting at 2-0, but three straight loses and two shutouts dropped us to 2-3. It’s just incredible how terrible this offensive is. I can take losing on good pitches, but when balls are down the middle and in the hot zones and getting popped up or grounded out, it drives me nuts.

Ichiro is batting .111, Figgans isn’t much better and from six down, nobody is above .200. I brought up Dustin Ackley, who doesn’t have a hit yet, and Smoak has been quiet since Oakland.

My pitching is incredible, but I need offense. What should I do? I am looking at Casey McGee, Jason Kubel and maybe a few others.

                  Any thoughts?

                  Cheers,

                        Cheers,

I just finished my 1st series w/ the Mariners. I took 2 of 3 from the A's. I scored 9 runs in theseries my offense put up fights when I was losing. That helped me win. If you are looking for a big hitter you can trade Chone Figgins , Mike Carp and another decent prospect for Mark Reynolds. That will give the Mariners linuep a threat.

Nobody in my lineup is hitting over 300 exept kennedy who played 1 game. Then now I just traded Reynolds, and a 3rd baseman for JOSE BAUTISTA will post after nnext game goooooooo Mariners
