Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

Lost the final game of the series to the Tigers. Bedard was terrible because of his minor knee injury and my offense was horrendous. Still, winning record and four with Oakland coming up makes me excited.

I would love to trade Dustin Ackley because I can get SO much for him, but just not realistic at all.

            Game 17
Houston Astros 7-10 vs. New York Mets 15-2
            Polo Grounds

After taking a quick 3 game series in Atlanta, 2 games to 1, the Mets came back home for a 6 game stretch against Houston for three and Arizona for three.
Game one featured Mets SP Noah Barth(4-0) against Houston SP Paul LaRue(1-2)
Barth, while not dominant, was consistent. Always ahead of the Houston hitters he walked none while striking out three in 6 2/3 innings. The Met hitters took a chunk out of LaRue's game early with smoking hot OF'er Richard Bryant hitting a solo homer in the bottom of the first inning. Bryant is hitting .354 on the season so far and has taken the starting job for the time being from both Buck Gillespie and Forest Evans.
Evans meanwhile made his own bid for some playing time as he hit a pinch hit 2-run homerun in the bottom of the 7th to start the Met scoring again as the middle innings were quiet for both clubs.
RBI singles from SS Colin Bennet and 3B Eddie Collins rounded out the scoring as the Mets took game 1 easily 5-0 although only getting 6 hits on the day.
Barth got the league leading 4th win to move to 4-0 with a 1.21 ERA
Game 2 features Bryant Walker(1-0) vs. Jim Clarke(1-2) in a night game.

Game 2 of the series between N.Y. and Houston went much the same as Game 1. Met pitching kept the Houston hitters guessing all night. This time however, Met SP Bryant Walker did something no team has done to Houston this year and that was put them into double digits in the K column. Houston led the league with the fewest strikeouts at the plate this young season so far, but with a nice fastball and devastating screwball, Walker had the Houston batters shaking their heads while walking back to the dugout to the tune of 12 times. RP Dominic Gordon added 3 more K's in the final two innings to make the total 15 for the game. Nearly double in any other game this year so far.
Met LF Hank Borders homered, his 5th of the year to lead the Met hitters with 3 RBI and 1B Vince Talley singled, doubled and tripled to raise his average to .338 on the year.
With a final linescore of 1-8-2 for Houston and 7-12-0 for the Mets....New York pushed it's lead in the East to 4.5 games over Atlanta and Florida.

In the rest of the league....the Cubs(11-7) lead the Brewers(11-8) by 1/2 game and the Cardinals(10-8) by 1 game. The D-Backs(9-8) are surprising everyone to lead the West over the Giants(9-9) by 1/2 game.

In the A.L. The Orioles(15-3) are the on fire wining their last 12 and they lead the Blue Jays(10-8) by 5 games.
The A.L. Central has the Indians(10-8) and Tigers(10-9) neck and neck and the Royals(9-9) playing well to keep things interesting early.
In the A.L. West, the A's(12-6) have a 3 game lead over Los Angeles(9-9)

So, I need some help from everybody. The Mariners are in first right now, but statistically, it's just not going to last. We are 26th in runs scored, 27th in average and just not scoring anything. Luckily, we are first in ERA but Vargas and Bedard are returning to form and Pineda tires after 70 pitches. We shouldn't be competing but since we are and I don't plan on going three or four seasons, should I go for a win now mentality? Bring in a guy like Carlos Pena and another pitcher for the injury prone Bedard and return, give up prospects?

Good point, I never minded trading prospects, but I am looking at moving high end ones like Ackley and other A and B prospects to get talent to win now. I'm sure trading Ackley is at all realistic, but if I need to win now??

I'm going into year 2 of my Padres franchise. The first year we finished 83-79 and missed the playoffs. We have the best bullpen in baseball with Luke Gregerson, Cory Wade, Latroy Hawkins, Mike Adams, Chad Qualls, Joe Thatcher, and Heath Bell. The rest of our team is pretty good. Here's our MLB roster.

                          SP- M. Latos, M. Scherzer, C. Richard, A. Harang, T. Stauffer
