Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

I'm surprised that I haven't posted here at all even though I've done a couple of franchises (but can never stick with one).

Anyways, I'm in year 2 with the Padres (2012) since the 2011 isn't interesting. I'm using the OS full rosters with some edits and this is currently my team:

    C Yasmani Grandal
    1B Anthony Rizzo
    2B Everth Cabrera
    3B Brett Lawrie
    SS Grant Green
    LF Kyle Blanks
    CF Cameron Maybin
    RF Bryce Harper

    RF Will Venable
    CF Luis Durango
    SS Jerry Hairston Jr.
    2B Alex Cora
    C Luis Martinez

    SP Mat Latos
    SP Stephen Strasburg
    SP Martin Perez
    SP Tanner Scheppers
    SP Cory Luebke

    CL Luke Gregerson
    SU Joe Thatcher
    SU Luis Perdomo
    MR Samuel Deduno
    MR Manny Banuelos
    MR Simon Castro
    LR Ernesto Frieri

    DL Billy Hamilton

Most of the players were acquired at the deadline from the last season in a rebuilding effort. Anyways, my record and team is pretty "unimportant" at this stage since you can say I'm rushing most of these players. However I just had one of my most exciting games ever not related to a RTTS playoff run.

It's still fairly early in the season and I've gotten off to a hot start, but I started a three-game series with the Giants and the pitching matchup was a pair of young lefties with a lot of upside, Martin Perez vs. Madison Bumgarner. The first inning was business as usual for both guys, but on the second inning the Giants managed to jump on Perez early with a 2-run bomb from Jake Fox. The next inning each team had its own solo home run (Grant Green for my team, Buster Posey for the Giants) and both were no doubters so I went and looked on the wind. At the end both sides had a combined 9 home runs, but it was a back-and-forth game that I didn't really care whether or not my team was losing the game. I hope to see more of these even if the power output was an outlier.

The first 3 innings are a flat out pitchers dual with Beckett mowing me down like nobodys business. Bottom of the 4th I finally draw a lead off walk with Brett Gardner. I then have Jeter sacrifice him over. Curtis Granderson comes up and blasts a double.

      1-0

      A-Rod draws a walk.

Mark Texeria then blasts a majestic 2 run shot.

Cano then follows with a monster solo shot.

      4-0 Yankees.

Fast forward to the 8th inning. Ivan Nova pitching a brilliant game walks the lead off batter and is very tired. I bring in Jaba. He proceeds to walk his first batter (Crawford) so now I have first and second I manage to get a pop up for the first out....then Adrian Gonzalez steps to the plate. He takes a 1-2 slider deep and out to cut the lead to 4-3.

I go into the 9th with Rivera loose and ready to close this out for my first ever WS birth on The Show (I have never made it to the WS yet)

Rivera walks Big Papi....then Pedroia cranks a 2 run shot.

      I go down 1, 2, 3 in the 9th.

I lost the ACLS again.....that makes 4 straight times I can't finish this off dating back to the Show 2009 (three full season played on that one) and now Year one on 2011.

      SIGH.

Well....now to the off-season and spring traning.

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

I haven't posted in awhile. I left off tied at 1-1 in the 2012 ALCS with Boston. I would end up winning the ALCS 4-1, and advancing to face a tough Brewers team in the World Series. Although the Brewers nearly lost their NLCS matchup, blowing a 3-0 lead before winning in Game 7.

I would go on to a sweep of Milwaukee in the World Series, with total and utter domination by Nick Swisher, who earned World Series MVP and Playoff MVP, by having 5 WS homers.

In the offseason, there were no retirements, no free agents lost, and no trades done by me. Instead, I picked up David Wright in free agency, with the intent of moving ARod to short if Jeter retired. Since Jeter didn't retire, I will utilize David Wright as DH and assign Boone Logan to Scranton, since he had a less than impressive playoffs.

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

In starting year 3 of my franchise (2013), the defnding champion Yankees look like this in their starting rotation and lineup:

              SP CC Sabathia
              SP Phil Hughes
              SP Ivan Nova
              SP AJ Burnett
              SP Carlos Silva

              SS Derek Jeter
              CF Curtis Granderson
              1B Mark Teixeira
              3B Alex Rodriguez
              2B Robinson Cano
              RF Nick Swisher
              DH David Wright
              C Russell Martin
              LF David DeJesus

In my first two games of the season, both against Detroit, the Yankees would fail to score early runs, instead rallying back late, before losing by tallies of 4-3 and 4-2.

The third game of that series saw a dominant pitching performance by Ivan Nova, going 7.2 innings, allowing 4 hits, and striking out 7, with no walks and nor runs allowed. Offensively, the Yankee bats finally came to life, as Jeter got a 2-run homer in the first inning, and Nick Swisher added a grand slam in the 3rd to lift the Yankees to an 8-0 victory.

AJ Burnett was himself in the following game against Texas, allowing 4 runs in 2 innings, as the Yankees lost 8-3. They followed that up with a gutsy 5-4 win over the Rangers, getting 2 homers from Nick Swisher, including the go-ahead homer, and David Wright's first homer as a Yankee. So I sit at 2-3 with the finale coming up against Texas before hitting the road for an early West Coast jaunt against Seattle and Los Angeles Angels.

With that said, further updates will be as I complete months in the season, with only other updates coming for milestones, trades, or free agent pick ups.

I'm in year 2 of my Padres franchise and am trying to keep up with the teams real-life moves. I was able to obtain Desmond Jennings and Zach Stewart in separate trades and am trying to get Carlos Quentin. White Sox won't budge for Stewart & Jennings, even after I set all of Quentins attributes to 0. I guess he is really that untouchable?

Got a Dodgers franchise going. I am currently in second place witha 16-10 record. The Padres are 17-8 leading the division. I have a 3 game set coming up against them.I did all the real life offseason trades and signings as well. Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier are my studs. Kemp is hitting 290 with 14 homeruns and 25 rbis 9 stolen bases. Either has 10 homeruns and 22 rbis through the first month. Traded Juan Rivera to the Indians for Michael Brantley. He too is doing well for me with a 287 average 2 homeruns 10 rbis since I acquired him. Overall having a good month still having a hard time hotting with a few guys, but things are looking up.

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

I came within ONE STRIKE of throwing my first-ever no-hitter in The Show. This happened in my Seattle Franchise, playing at Toronto, with James Shields (signed in the offseason) on the mound. Rajai Davis broke up the no-hitter with a single up the middle. I was so bummed and then to make things worse, Shields gives up a game-tying double to J.P. Arrencebia. Thankfully, I managed to force extra innings and won the game in the 11th inning, 2-1.

I saved after the 9th inning (it was late), so I don't have full stats, but Shields did walk one batter and struck out 6.

I just started my Royals Franchise which I Fantasy Drafted. The team turned out pretty good.

                      Rotation:
                      1. Justin Verlander- Under control for 5 more years.
                      2. Max Scherzer
                      3 Madison Bumbgarner
                      4. Jeremy Hellickson
                      5. Randy Wolf- Great for eating innings

                      Lineup
                      1. Denard Span
                      2. Chone figgens
                      3. Jason Heyward
                      4. Justin Morneau
                      5. J.P Arencibia
                      6. Neil Walker
                      7. Asdrubal Cabrera
                      8. Jose Tabata
                      9. Desmond Jennings

I'm not really worried because I probably have the best Farm System in the game with players such as Tyler Skaggs, Eric Hosmer, Mike Trout and Jonathan Singleton just to name a few. And half of my projected big league for 2011 is under club control for 3-4 more years.

I've heard that sound 3 times... once was Babe Ruth, the second was Josh Gibson, and the third was Bo Jackson- Buck O'Neil

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

My Mets franchise through the end of June.

It was a very tough month! Earlier, seeing how I was pitching well (for the talents I have, that is), I sent down D.J. Carrasco (was knocked around left and right) to AAA to add an extra position player. The 10-man pitching staff turned out to be a bad idea... I feel overuse of relievers may have contributed to several late-inning blowouts, led to a few strings of losing streaks. Now I'm back with 11-man staff, things have gotten right on track, as seen in the decent ERA...

However, the offense has gone south... It's a very nice speedy team but with J. Reyes and A. Pagan getting cold (again), I had trouble creating scoring opportunities... J. Bay and I. Davis haven't found their grooves yet (though D. Wright is now starting to get hot), and they're bad enough that I picked up Troy Glaus as an FA to platoon with Davis.

Partly, my offense went down because I wasn't taking as much time playing each game... short of time, or I was trying to get in a game when I was really tired after work, etc. It just tells how important it is to concentrate when hitting. You rush things and you'll swing at bad pitches...

At least I'm still only 1.5 games behind Atlanta.

Anyways, I was gonna post a couple movies of interesting plays, but the video uploader complains of network error, so unfortunately cannot...

By the way, all this is on MLB11, when everybody now is talking about MLB12....

I am playing in my 2nd season in franchise w/ the Braves. The Show dont stop amazing me with realism. I am sucking right now. 5-12 record, but 17 games. I have rarely had a chance to used CL Kimbrel, actually 3 or 4 games. I put in Kimbrel for a save attempt vs. the Brewers. I was up by 1 run, he blew the save. He got rocked badddd.

So the next game, same scenario. I tried Kimbrel again. Before I put him in the 9th to save the game. I checked out his CONF, it was not even at half and he pitched like it. He through 6 balls straight. He walked one batter and could not find the strike zone. I pulled him for Venters. The player he walked was bunting over to 2B and ended up scoring on a single up the middle.

Okay so I started an Astros franchise and, expecting that I would need a couple of years to rebuild, traded all my developed talent for prospects. After enduring 2 miserable years in last place before the 2013 season I decided to sign Brian Mccann as a free agent just to have SOMEBODY in my lineup. I then proceeded to sign Dustin Moseley to a cheap 1 year deal to fill out my rotation, knowing full well that he would suck and that I would have to endure another brutal year.

Well I simmed to the all star break and my Astros are in first place, Brian Mccann has 30 home runs, and Dustin Moseley is 13-1 and started the all star game! Words cannot even describe what I am feeling right now. Anyway I'm planning on snagging some starters around the trade deadline because I have a feeling that Dustin Moseley isn't going to continue being the staff ace that he is right now.

This one is a pic of my record and stats. I've won 7 games in row at this point and I'm 4 games out the Wildcard. The Padres are actually leading the Wildcard. So this a huge series.
