Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

Started a new franchise with my New York Yankees.

Simmed the whole 2011 season w/ CPU controlling everything.

Yankees eliminated first round by the Rangers.

Red Sox end up winning the World Series by beating the Cardinals.

Playing the 2012 season with me in control of everything. Sorta like a new GM, so to say.

Fired Girardi and most of his staff and hired Buck Showalter.

Posada retired.

Signed a few minor free agents like John Garland, Joe Nelson, and Matt Capps for the bullpen.

Brought back mostly everyone except for Andruw Jones, Bartolo Colon. Just to name a few.

Brought up Jesus Montero from the minors.

Awkward stuff in my first game of the year vs. Blue Jays...

Sabathia was pitching strong and in the 7th inning he was in the middle of pitching to a guy and gets injured. Game tells me that Sabathia will need rotator cuff surgery and will be out 4-5 months.

Now I'm in need of an ace.

With barely any good names left in the free agent market, and the prospects in the minors not ready yet. I put Phil Hughes in the number 1 spot in the rotation. He had a good 2011 season (unlike his real life counterpart).

So now the rotation is...

P. Hughes
F. Garcia
J. Garland
A. Burnett
I. Nova (Brought up to fill the No. 5 starter void)

Bullpen is...

MR J. Chamberlain
MR J. Nelson
MR P. Feliciano
MR D. Robertson
SU M. Capps
SU R. Soriano
CP M. Rivera

Lineup is...

SS D. Jeter
CF C. Granderson
1B M. Teixeira
2B R. Cano
3B A. Rodriguez
DH J. Montero
RF N. Swisher
C R. Martin
LF B. Gardner

Bench is...
INF R. Pena
INF E. Nunez
OF Melky Mesa (brought up by CPU in 2011)
C F. Cervelli

So far I'm 7-2, second place to the 8-1 Red Sox.

Just started the 2012 season against the Jays and the season opener was a good one. CC went up against Romero. CC pitched 8 innings giving up 3 runs on 8 hits and Soriano got his first save of the season. The Bronx bombers lived up to their name by hitting 4 solo Hrs. 2 by Arod, 1 by Jeter and 1 by Teixiera. Yankees won the first game 4 -3.

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

Just had a great game against the Rangers. I am at Game 4 of the 2012 season as the Yankees palying the Rangers. AJ was dealing for 7 innings pitching a shutout and striking out 9. The 8th is where AJ had problems. He gave up a 2 Run HR to Kinsler but was able to settle down and get out of the 8th with a 4-2 lead. I was able to tac on one more run in the bottom of the night (almost had a grand slam by Micheal Young)

Onto the 9th and I bring in Soriano to close out the game (Mo retired after the 2011 season) Soriano promptly gives up a double to Moreland and Hamilton follows up with a 2 Run HR. Next up is Cruz who hits a hr (back to back) to tie up the game. I got the next 3 guys out to end the inning. Game was tied until the 11th where Granderson sends everyone home with a walkoff 3 Run shot.

After seeing Reyes and Pagan leave, I scrapped my Mets franchise and resurrected NY using the Fictional roster set.

I did a fantasy draft and wound up with the top overall team, based on ratings. The fictional set is really well done. I'm still learning all my players' names, but did win on Opening Day against the Marlins, 4-1.

A plain vanilla OSFM spring training, I think. I'm not too obsessed about player movements, just trying to enjoy the details in the franchise mode really for the first time, so it's okay for me....

Besides I like a team with some speed, thinking of ways to generate runs here and there. What the Mets will do without Reyes and Pagan now...

Yeah, they are going to be a slow team without those two guys.

Keep up the good work ... I'm going to re-start a Rockies franchise (caught baseball fever over the weekend) with Jason19's OSFM Variation set.

This FAQ seems getting old but people have said a lot are still relevant:

A question those of you have completed more seasons in a franchise, playing or simming. Have you seen any Hall of Fame inductees as of yet?

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

I also caught baseball fever over last weekend at Piratesfest, and finally finished off my Pirates Cinderella season with a victory in the World Series over the White Sox. I didn't spend much of the end of the season with the team, and in the offseason the progression got messed up, as James McDonald, who won the Cy Young that season ( I played most games he pitched) actually decreased in rating. So, I decided I'd take my GM talents to Chi-Town and have spent the better part of the week trying to mold the Cubbies into a serious WS threat. While I only pitch in the games that I play, the team is currently in first place through the first week in May of year two. I made a bunch of trades to grab young talent. Some of the talent I've grabbed includes:

Brian Matusz
Brandon Beachy
Phil Hughes
Joba Chamberlain
Mike Minor
Freddie Freeman
Eric O'Flaherty
Danny Valencia
Chris Sale

Beachy is currently leading the league in Cy Young voting, as well as being the starter for the ASG. Matusz is extremely effective when I use him as long as I keep the ball low considering he only throws around 92-93 mph. Hughes stole his way into the rotation, Chamberlain and Sale are both my set up men, Minor is on fire currently in the minors, and if Randy Wells slips up its Minors spot to lose. Freeman is hitting .300 right now, Valencia around .375, and O'Flaherty is the only outlier with an ERA of 10.82. Needless to say, the future looks bright in Chicago as I still have Castro too!

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

My Mets franchise did well in May 2011, including a 9-game winning streak (and took the series against the Yankees!!!).

The power threats (Wright, Davis, and Bay... man these guys strike out A LOT for me) are still struggling, all hitting around .220 - .230 but with speedy guys (Reyes, Pagan, and Beltran) coming around there has been no shortage of offense.

I was thinking of bumping up the pitching difficulty (using Classic at All-star) since my pitching staff has been pretty strong through mid-May, but the last few games they have been literally shelled... Dropped two games straight against the Pirates, giving up more than 10 runs in both games. Just when I thought it was going to be an easy series!!!

Overall, I've been playing some amazingly intense baseball! A lot of late inning rallies for myself. Now I can see why some people complain about late-inning CPU comebacks, but really it's a chance for HUM player as well when the starter leaves and weaker relievers come in. It feels really, really good being patient and wait for a pitch to drive, and score all these go-ahead runs!

Absolute heatbreak in the 2011 ACLS in my year one Yankees Franchsie.

Beckett vs Ivan Nova series tied 3-3.

The first 3 innings are a flat out pitchers dual with Beckett mowing me down like nobodys business. Bottom of the 4th I finally draw a lead off walk with Brett Gardner. I then have Jeter sacrifice him over. Curtis Granderson comes up and blasts a double.

1-0

A-Rod draws a walk.

Mark Texeria then blasts a majestic 2 run shot.

Cano then follows with a monster solo shot.

4-0 Yankees.

Fast forward to the 8th inning. Ivan Nova pitching a brilliant game walks the lead off batter and is very tired. I bring in Jaba. He proceeds to walk his first batter (Crawford) so now I have first and second I manage to get a pop up for the first out....then Adrian Gonzalez steps to the plate. He takes a 1-2 slider deep and out to cut the lead to 4-3.

I go into the 9th with Rivera loose and ready to close this out for my first ever WS birth on The Show (I have never made it to the WS yet)

Rivera walks Big Papi....then Pedroia cranks a 2 run shot.

I go down 1, 2, 3 in the 9th.

I lost the ACLS again.....that makes 4 straight times I can't finish this off dating back to the Show 2009 (three full season played on that one) and now Year one on 2011.

SIGH.

Well....now to the off-season and spring traning.

I love this game.
