Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

Well after 5 games of the 2011 World Series, the Yankees are heading back to New York with a 3-2 series lead.

The Yankees won games 4 and 5 in Florida. The Story of Game 4 was Freddy Garcia who pitched a 5 hit complete game shutout. The story of Game 5 was the Yankees offense. Arod went deep twice (almost had a Reggie Jackson moment) Jorge and Granderson went deep as well to give the Yankees a 9-4 win.

Here are highlights of Game 5

    <iframe width="690" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/O3pJ5Vdygp0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Game 6 will see CC go up against Nolasco who pitched great against the Yankees in Game 2.

Yankees capture World Series Title # 28!!!

Well the 2011 World series ended up going 7 games. Game 6 was a heartbreaker for the Yankees who got to Nolasco scoring 4 runs (1 run in the 3rd and 3 runs in the 4th thanks to a 3 run HR by Tex) CC came out to pitch the 5th with a 4 run cushion that was short lived thanks to Gaby Sanchez hitting a 3 run bomb of his own off of CC. The Marlins tied the game in the 7th off of Nova on a single by Sanchez. In the 9th, the Marlins scored another run off of Joba on a few basehits. That would prove to be the game as the Marlins forced a Game 7 with a good 5-4 win against the Yankees. (Because I had a bitter taste in my mouth due to the loss, i quickly played game 7)

Game 7 was a little less dramatic. AJ vs Volstad. Cano had the big blow in the bottom of the 1st hitting a 3 run shot off of Chris Volstad. The Yankees tacked on 3 more runs in the bottom of the 3rd to bring their lead up to 6-0. Aj didnt need much as he pitched great going 7 innings pitching 4 hit shutout ball. Robertson came into the game in the 8th and 9th inning and was able to finish the game helping the Yankees capture World Series Title # 28 ( I apologize for no video as I had to save the game in the 6th inning bc I had to run out for the misses)

So you played every game? That's awesome either way. Sucks that Rivera is retiring though.

I played most of my games. There were a few times where I went with sportscast manager..i like that option better than simming since I have more control on what happens. With 2 kids, that mode came in handy. Played all my playoff games though

It does hurt that Mo retired. I was hoping to have him for atleast one more year but i guess it wasnt meant to be. Jorge retried as well. I was thinking about resigning him since he had a good year for me at DH. I think in the offseason I will look to get Prince and another starter and left handed reliever.

            Quick update:

I finished 100-62, four games ahead of the Red Sox in the division. Boston got the Wild Card and will be facing Texas while I will be taking on the White Sox.

Game 1: CC Sabathia vs Jaime Garcia
Game 2: Phil Hughes vs John Danks
Game 3: Ivan Nova vs TBD

A screenshot of the bracket is coming, as well as updates on the ALDS vs the White Sox. I have just been on vacation and haven't had the time to grab the screenshots off of my PS3 yet.

            The awards went as follows:

            MVP - Miguel Cabrera, DET
Cy Young - Ivan Nova, NYY

Boston is the Wild Card team, and in the NL, Milwaukee won the Wild Card with a 6-game win streak to end the season and surpass Philly.

Re: MLB 11 The Show &quot;Franchise/Season&quot; Progress Thread

In Game 1 of the ALDS, CC Sabathia went 5 scoreless innings. During that span, Nick Swisher would homer twice, Cano would homer, and three more Yankees would homer, giving the Yankees a 7-0 lead.

In the 6th, Sabathia would get touched for 3 runs. He'd be replaced by Boone Logan who gave up 3 more in the 8th. Pedro Feliciano pitched a perfect 9th.

Mark Trumbo added 2 RBI in the 11-6 victory over the White Sox. Swisher finished 4-4, and Cano went 4-5.

The playoff lineup is as follows:

                Jeter - SS
                Granderson - CF
                Teixeira - 1B
                Rodriguez - 3B
                Cano - 2B
                Swisher - RF
                Trumbo - DH
                Martin - C
                DeJesus - LF

In Game 2, Swisher would be the star again, getting the go-ahead homer in the 8th to cap a comeback. The Yankees had to comeback twice, down 2-0 to take a 3-2 lead, then going down 5-3 before winning 6-5.

Phil Hughes had a poor performance, his 4th in a row dating back to the regular season. Pedro Feliciano bailed him out, getting the win. Rivera slammed the door shut with the save.

In Game 3, Ivan Nova, the Cy Young winner, would shine. He gave up an early homer, but the Yankees once again staged a comeback. DeJesus had 2 RBI, including the clincher, an RBI single in the 8th to drive in Martin to make it 6-3. Rivera closed out the series with another save, and it is on to the ALCS against either Texas or Boston. Their series stands at 2-1 Boston at the moment.

Turns out I'd face Boston in the ALCS, since they beat Texas 3-1 in the ALDS.

On the NL side, both Milwaukee and St. Louis swept, keeping all first -round matchups rather uneventful.

Boston chose to use 3 pitchers for the ALCS. I chose to use 4. Here are the matchups:

GM 1 - CC Sabathia vs Clay Buchholz
GM 2 - Phil Hughes vs Josh Beckett
GM 3 - Ivan Nova vs Jon Lester
GM 4 - AJ Burnett vs Clay Buchholz
GM 5 - CC Sabathia vs Josh Beckett*
GM 6 - Phil Hughes vs Jon Lester*
GM 7 - Ivan Nova vs Clay Buchholz*

                  * - if necessary

                  Updates on the ALCS forthcoming.

Thanks. You know what they say: Payback's a mother...

Game 1 would see an old, familiar face be the hero. First, CC Sabathia would struggle through 6 innings, allowing 3 runs on 10 hits, but he walked 8 batters and found himself working out of bases loaded jams in the 4th and 6th innings.

In the 8th, with the score 3-2 Boston, Nick Swisher, who stayed hot from the ALDS, would drive in Cano on a one out double. Swisher advanced to third on the throw home, and Trumbo would hit a deep fly to the track in right, bringing in Swisher for the 4-3 lead.

Rivera would blow it in the 9th, allowing a leadoff double to Crawford, who then stole third, and would score on Ellsbury's groundout. The top of the 9th would end with the game tied at 4-4. Derek Jeter would lead off the bottom of the ninth, and took the first pitch over the wall in left to give the Yankees a 5-4 walk-off win in Game 1 of the ALCS.

Game 2 would be a different game entirely. Phil Hughes would allow 7 runs in 2 and a third innings, including 3 homers to Carl Crawford. The Yankees found themselves down 7-0 early, and the shellacking was on.

Turning to Carlos Silva, the Yankees hoped he could just keep them in it. He did a masterful job pitching, as the Yankee bats came to life in the 5th. Russell Martin would get a 2-run, 2-out double and then score on DeJesus' single to make it 7-3.

In the 6th, the Yankees would continue as they would get 3 consecutive doubles from ARod, Cano, and Swisher, cutting it to 7-5. Trumbo and Martin would make outs, leaving Swisher at third with DeJesus coming up. David DeJesus would crush a 3-2 slider over the centerfield wall, tying the game at 7-7 and capping the comeback.

The mistake though was allowing a tired Carlos Silva to pitch the 7th. He allowed a lead-off single to Ellsbury, and promptly followed it up by allowing a 2-run homer to Adrian Gonzalez.

Swisher would homer in the 8th, making it 9-8. The Yankees would get the tying run to third in the 9th, but leave him stranded as they'd fall 9-8 to the Red Sox in Game 2, tying the series at 1-1.

Here is my latest update on my Atlanta Braves franchise. I thought I would be better at this game, but its truely challenging for me. I play on All-star level, but I like it... My record is currently at 37-69. For some reason I still think I can finish wiith a .500 record. Call me crazy. I took another injury hit, Chipper went down with torn hamstring for 1-2 months. He probably retire at the end year.

I am still determined to finish this season, by playing all games. Hopefully I can do it by Christmas. I got Heyward back, but he is playing like the real-life counterpart this year.

Some interesting trades from the cpu: Jeter to the Cubs for S. Castro and another player. Both teams are in the Wild card race, but The Cubs are 4GB back of first and the Yanks are 3rd 16GB of the Red Sox. Yanks also traded Granderson to the Angels for two players. Also the Angels are well into first and I think Vernon Wells went down.

I went up 1-0 on Boston in the ALCS in my year one 2011 Yankees chise.

CC pitched 8 strong innings and was under 100 pitches and we had a 4-2 lead. I figured let me let him try and finish this game out.

                              Bad idea.

He walks the first batter he faced, then gets a fly out. Mike Cameron comes to the plate....the guy has not hit a lick this post season.

                              2 run HR. Tie game.

Well. We come up in the top of the tenth and Curtis Granderson smokes a 1-0 slider for a go ahead HR. This time Mariano comes in and closes it out.

I really wanted to get game one and steal one in Boston. They are super tough on this years game and I really had a hard time with them in the regular season.
