Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread
Okay so I started an Astros franchise and, expecting that I would need a couple of years to rebuild, traded all my developed talent for prospects. After enduring 2 miserable years in last place before the 2013 season I decided to sign Brian Mccann as a free agent just to have SOMEBODY in my lineup. I then proceeded to sign Dustin Moseley to a cheap 1 year deal to fill out my rotation, knowing full well that he would suck and that I would have to endure another brutal year.
Well I simmed to the all star break and my Astros are in first place, Brian Mccann has 30 home runs, and Dustin Moseley is 13-1 and started the all star game! Words cannot even describe what I am feeling right now. Anyway I'm planning on snagging some starters around the trade deadline because I have a feeling that Dustin Moseley isn't going to continue being the staff ace that he is right now.
Anyway over the course of the second half of the season my division lead over the Brewers has gradually evaporated until now, I am currently tied for first with them in the last week of the season.Comment

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread
After the month of April, I sat at 14-9, tied with Baltimore for the Wild Card lead and trailing Boston by 3.5 games in the division.
I started May with a huge series against Baltimore, and Phil Hughes got roughed around a bit. After the Baltimore series, his record sat at 2-3 with a 5.50 ERA.
I added him to my trading block, and the very next day I was alerted that the Red Sox had placed Josh Beckett on the trade block. So yes, I pulled the trigger, sending Phil Hughes to Boston in exchange for Josh Beckett.
This happened right before I started a series with Boston at Fenway. Neither pitcher pitched as the matchups didn't line up. Beckett instead gets his first Yankee start at home against the White Sox.
Beckett is 2-0 with a 3.77 ERA on the season.Comment

Just finished up my regular season. Was able to stay hot through out September and catch the Braves the last day of the season. I got alot of help from the Phillies by sweeping the Braves. Heres what the playoff matchups look like. I'm hoping to get some revenge from'06 on the Cards.Attached FilesMLB: New York Mets

Speaking of Colorado, in my Franchise (no way I'm finishing anything, it's just for fun until MLB 12 drops), Ian Stewart hit a pinch-hit Grand Slam last night against the Pirates, breaking a 0-0 tie in the top of the 9th @ PNC. De la Rosa picked up the complete game shutout as the Rockies won, 4-0.Currently Playing:

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread
I bought the game on release but didn't start my Franchise until a few months ago.
I'm playing with my Arizona Diamondbacks using Knight's rosters right after the World Series.
I just completed the 2011 All-Star Game with a NL victory with a final score of 4-1, Ian Kennedy made the start and took the win against Dan Haren.
Prior to the All-Star Game my dbacks went on a hot streak winning 9 and then 12 more after a loss in Cleveland and we have since run off with the division in the currently weak NL West leading by 24 games.
Dodgers are coming to town now for a three game series and we have Joe Saunders (8-3) going up against Ted Lilly (7-6).MLB The Show 21 Stadium Creator

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread
The first game back from the All-Star Game the Dodgers come to take on the dbacks for a three game series.
Game 93:
Ted Lilly (7-6) vs. Joe Saunders (8-3)
Ted Lilly dominated the dbacks going a perfect 5.2IP until Chris Young drilled a blast to Left Field to break the Perfect Game and Shutout. Diamondbacks continue to battle back but can not find a way to tie the game in the late goings.
Top 1:
Ethier lined to CF for a single and on the next batter Barajas grounded to 3B but a throwing error by Ryan Roberts allowed Ethier to score.
Top 2:
Leading off for the Dodgers, Rivera lined to 3B for a single and was driven home on a Casey Blake blast to LF which expanded the Dodgers' lead to 3-0.
Top 5:
Runners on 3rd and 1st for Kemp, and a line drive single brings a run home but that's all they'll get due to a double-play to follow up.
Bottom 5:
Going a perfect 5.2 innings, Ted Lilly makes a mistake and leaves an 87mph Fastball down the middle for Chris Young who drives it over the LF wall to put the dbacks on the board 4-1 breaking the Perfect game and Shutout in one swing.
Top 7:
Ethier blasts a double off of the top of the CF wall but is gunned down on a fantastic relay going to 3B by Young, Drew, and Roberts.
Bottom 7:
After Upton and Goldschmidt lead off the inning with back to back singles, rookie Collin Cowgill drives a double to Right Center Field driving in both to trim the lead to 4-3.
Top 8:
With Saunders out of the game with 5 decent innings pitched and Micah Owings with a perfect 6th and 7th, Brad Zeigler comes in to the 8th and gives up a solo HR to Juan Rivera who batted 2nd in the inning, the Dodgers now lead the dbacks 5-3.
Bottom 8:
With Henry Blanco leading off and Matt Guerrier coming to pitch, the dbacks sent Miguel Montero to the plate and on the first pitch he drove an opposite field blast to put the dbacks behind by one.
Bottom 9:
Javy Guerra comes in to close things out for the Dodgers. Paul Goldschmidt drives a LOONG fly ball to deep Left Center Field but Matt Kemp grabs it inches from going out of the park and tying the game, had he not it would have caromed off of the yellow line. First pitch swinging Young drives a fastball right down the middle right to Kemp in CF. Rookie Collin Cowgill takes a drive to LF and Rivera takes it for the out, Dodgers win 5-4 and snapped the dbacks 12 game win streak.
Final: 5-4 Dodgers
W: Lilly (8-6)
L: Saunders (8-4)
S: Guerra (22)
Game 94:
Dana Eveland (4-9) vs. Josh Collmenter (12-2)
Hard fought game between both teams and the lead was never safe in any inning. Mediocre pitching was countered by potent offense which lead to a moderately high scoring game but the dbacks came out victorious although the Dodgers could have won with one swing of that bat in just about any situation.
Bottom 1:
Willie Bloomquist leads off the game with a single and promptly steals 2nd, but after a pop out and a dropped 3rd strike he found himself on 3rd with 2 outs. Paul Goldschmidt drilled a double down the line but a missed throw put him on 3rd and he could have made it to home had I had a better angle to see who was/wasn't covering the plate. Dbacks lead 1-0 after 1.
Top 2:
Juan Uribe drills a line drive over Hill's head at 2nd and legs it out for a double with 1 out. Casey Blake with a 1-2 count takes a hanging curveball over the LF wall to put the Dodgers up 2-1.
Top 3:
Ethier reaches on a grounder to 2nd and is driven home on an RBI double by Barajas to put the Dodgers up 3-1.
Bottom 3:
Josh Collmenter and Willie Bloomquist lead off the inning with back to back singles and Aaron Hill explodes on a slider and puts it deep over the LF wall, dbacks now lead 4-3.
Bottom 6:
Justin Upton leads off the inning and gets a meatball right down the middle and pounds the 1st pitch of the inning over the LF wall for his 23rd HR of the season, 5-3 dbacks.
Bottom 8:
Willie Bloomquist and Aaron Hill both reach on leadoff singles, and Upton comes through with a grounder through the left side which brings home Bloomquist to extend the lead to 6-3.
Top 9:
J.J. Putz enters the game to close it out. Matt Kemp leads things off 0-3 today and pops out to Goldschmidt at 1B. Loney lines to LF for a single and then Uribe strikes out looking. Rivera lined to CF for a single and Blake comes through with a slow dribbler up the middle to bring home Loney to make the score 6-4. Velez pinch hits for the pitchers' spot and grounds out to 2B on the 1st pitch, dbacks win 6-4.
Final: 6-4 Diamondbacks
W: Collmenter (13-2)
L: Eveland (4-10)
S: Putz (32)
Game 95:
Clayton Kershaw (6-6) vs. Jarrod Parker (10-3)
Huge offensive night for the Diamondbacks which allowed them to hold the lead from the first inning on, but a blown save cost the dbacks the game and the series giving up 5 runs in the top of the 9th. Goldschmidt and Hill powered HRs off of a poor performance by Kershaw, but all for naught as the dbacks can't hold on for victory.
Bottom 2:
After an inning of the dbacks and Dodgers threatening to score it was the dbacks who struck first. Paul Goldschmidt came to the plate and Kershaw tried to put a fastball on the inside but left it too far over the place and it was shot over the CF wall for Goldy's 36th of the year, putting him ahead of Pujols for #1 in the MLB. Later in the inning Ryan Roberts shoots a line drive to SS and it's knocked down but no play is made, Roberts advances to 2nd and 3rd on stolen bases. Parker at the plate with two outs and shoots a line drive over Aaron Miles' head at 2nd which puts the dbacks up 2-0.
Bottom 3:
With Miguel Montero at 1st after a single, Paul Goldschmidt comes to the plate and drills a ball deep to Left Center Field, Matt Kemp tracks it down to the wall and leaps!!!! The ball hits Kemp's glove and falls back down to the field, but with 2 outs he saved a HR and the runners were forced to hold at 2nd and 3rd in the confusion. Young came to bat next and popped out behind SS to get Kershaw out of the inning.
Top 4:
After an 8 pitch at bat, Ethier gets a high fastball and shoots it to the opposite field, Parra tracks it down at the wall but it hits the top of the wall and into the bullpen for a Home Run, dbacks still hold the lead but it is now 2-1.
Bottom 5:
After severely threatening to score in the inning the Dodgers blow a bases loaded situation with no outs, as Kershaw takes the mound he leaves a first pitch meatball for Aaron Hill to blast out over the CF wall which extends the dbacks lead to 3-1; Kershaw has given up 9 hits to this point.
Top 7:
Leading off, James Loney takes a fastball away and loops it over Hill's head for a single, Juan Uribe comes up to bat and blasts a ball over the wall in Left Field to knot the game at 3; Parker leaves the game and Brad Zeigler comes in.
Bottom 8:
With Justin Upton's leadoff single and a stolen base, Montero grounds to 1st and allows Upton to move to 3rd with only one out. Goldschmidt comes to the plate and with the infield in he delivers a grounder between Kemp and Carroll to put the dbacks on top 4-3; Putz begins to warm up.
Top 9:
Enter Putz. James Loney comes up all ready hitting 1-3 today, shoots a grounder to 2nd but it goes under Hill's glove for a leadoff single as the tying run; Gwynn Jr. to Pinch Run. With the tying run on, Juan Uribe comes to bat all ready 2-3 with the game tying HR in his last At-bat, Uribe blasts to 3B and it's knocked down by Roberts but it pops out of his glove on the transfer, no out and Velez runs for Uribe. Rivera to bat, 1-3 with a single all ready, lines to SS Drew but the runners stay still, 1 out. Casey Blake up to bat now, hitless today but was a force the previous two games, flies to LF but Parra misses it and it bounced over the wall for a GRD, game tied 4-4. Putz puts Miles on to load the bases. Gordon with a line drive to RF and puts in 2 runs, Dodgers lead 6-4; exit Putz. Ethier with a grounder to 1B and Ethier beats out the double play but the run scores, 7-4 Dodgers. Barajas pulls a double to LF and the run also scores, 8-4 Dodgers....... and Kemp strikes out swinging to end the inning.
Bottom 9:
Kuo comes in to finish off the game. Parra pops out to 2B for the first out. Micah Owings flies out to CF. Drew is the last chance, doubled to LF. Hill grounds out to SS for the final out.
Final: 8-4 Dodgers
W: Guerrier (7-1)
L: Putz (0-3)
S: none

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread
I resumed playing The Show in the past month or so, including my single-team control Pirates franchise. When I picked it back up, I was in early/mid May with a record of roughly 20-15 or so (no simming). I played several games since, but also simmed a game or two per series, bringing me to the Father's Day weekend series in Cleveland. I'm still a few games over .500, but I'm now in 4th place behind MIL, STL, and CIN.
I want to play the Sunday game, which I attended with the family, but after playing Friday's game I'm having second thoughts. How the heck do you hit at Jacobs Field (yeah, I know) before the sun sets?!? I struck out 6 times in the first three innings, then once I could pick up the ball I roughed up Masterson to the tune of 6 runs before 'Cutch chased him with a 421ft 3-run blast deep onto the Party Porch. I can't imagine what a Sunday afternoon game would be like with the full sun on those trees.Comment

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread
I was able to sweep the Cards in NLDS. Got lucky in games 2 and 3 with some late inning magic. Now in the NLCS vs. the Phillies. Went up 2 games farely easy by pounding Oswalt and Worley in Philly. But I have been completly dominated by the 3 headed monster in NY. Also Ryan Howard has awoken against my weaker pitching staff. He came into the series batting a slim .150 with 0 HR's and 0 RBI's. Now he has 4 HR's and 8 RBI's. Man I hate that guy. So in a BIG game 6 I will pitch the BIG PELF against Oswalt. If it gets to a game 7 I will pitch Santana against the Doc.MLB: New York Mets
