Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

See the cool thing was...the A's also needed RP help, but when I tried to trade them Rafael Soriano and his ablatross of a contract, they wouldn't touch it. That made me smile ear-to-ear. The CPU has some semblance of trade logic even though the A's would never trade Cahill for Montero straight up IRL.

Garcia didn't pitch that badly, he had a 4-5 record with 45 K's and 38 BBs. I just hated pitching with him and I never felt like he gave me a chance to win on a regular basis.

I wonder if I'll have to worry about CC's contract after this season...wondering if it has a built-in player option that he can exercise?

Also, finally worked out a deal for BJ Upton. Sent him to Oakland.

      Rays receive:
      Daric Barton
      Ryan Sweeney
      Fernando Cabrera

      Trade Value points: 11.35

      Athletics receive:
      BJ Upton

      Trade Value points: 12.00

I am happy with the deal. IN THE GAME Barton is a OBP machine. Sweeney has decent speed, a good bat and is under team control for a few more years. Cabrera is a D rated potential pitching prospect. He doesn't have a ton of great attributes. However, he does have some velocity and his K/9 number is through the roof in AA and his overall slider for K/9 is good as well. Plus, he has a very good slider. Due to that, I figure he could be a possible ROOGY if he makes it to the big club. Right now I have him in AAA Durham.
Where'd you get the Trade Point value from?

Just after the all star game in my Giants franchise, I just traded Zito and Huff for Anderson from the A's, much happier with my starting rotation now. I missed out on Reyes the Cards picked him up. The Nationals offered me Bryce Harper and reliever Sean Burnett for reliever Jeremy Affeldt and someone else (I can't remember) and I accepted...I wish I didn't now though as it is unrealistic and I feel bad haha

Haha well Harper wasn't getting any game time because Werth was playing right, so I thought well I'll play you a lot more so come to San Fran! Haha yeah Anderson was on a cold streak with the A's, I honestly didn't expect them to accept the trade, the blue trade bar was only half full. He is fun to pitch with and is now on a hot streak!

I, like every1 else, was offered Harper in my franchise...Problem was, the Nats wanted my top 2 pitching prospects plus my #1 OF prospect....I wasn't gunna do the trade regardless but their asking price really turned me off even more....I wouldn't have anywhere to play him as i like the way my team is constituted atm....Aa far as Anderson goes, imma find a hard time rooting for him since he's on the *gasp* MUCH-HATED giants haha

Since you PM'd me, about not figuring out the total, I went ahead and fired up the PS3.

Trade Value of Montero: 8.00 pts
Trade Value of Cahill: 10.00 pts

Just got to the AllStar break in my '10 Brew Crew franchise sitting at 55-34 (playing every game). Dave Bush has become the #1 pitcher in my rotation with a 11-4 record and a low 3 ERA. Gallardo has just been to inconsistent and either throws a complete game shut out or gets totally rocked early. Traded for Ellsbury and Lackey earlier in the season. Both are struggling and in the middle of cold slumps. Fielder is currently atop the MVP polls half way though the season so we'll see how that turns out. Also, picked up Bill Hall at the beginning of the season off waivers from the Red Sox and have totally resurrected his career as a Brewer. As strictly a utility player, hes batting .295 with 7 homers and 30 RBI, pretty good coming off the bench, in fact Rickie Weeks went down for 6 weeks and Hall was in contention for a Gold Glove until Weeks came back and took the starting role over again.

What do you guys find as the most 'fun' way to play a franchise? I want to expierence the ups-and-downs of a full year, yet always have troubles keeping up with it.
It may be because of all my sliders/settings changes but I feel most my battle is finding the right team. I love my Brewers and its hard to get away from them for long but I also want a 'not-so-good' team such as the 'Stros, Buccos, or D-Backs.
I have a hard time simulating but I want to be able to get through years. What do you guys think?

I always pick a bad team (usually the Pirates)..I finally sucked up my pride and adjusted my sliders to make the game more enjoyable and realistic.....I, play a game a day, just like IRL, but i do plan on makin it through a few seasons.....

Enjoying this franchise with the Diamondbacks alot more than my Mariners...
Just finished the WSH series at the start of June 1 game above .500, I have been parting with my strikeout leaders (not pitchers) for some bullpen help but for the most part Putz has been lights out (0.56 ERA .125 BAA).

First game of a four-game set with the Rays ends with a 8-5 victory for the Yankees. Sabathia was outdueled by James Shields through the first five innings, where the Rays pitcher struck out eight while giving up no runs on three hits.

However, with the Rays up 2-0 in the sixth, Shields walks ARod with one out. He got Cano to pop out for the secnd out, bringing Swisher to the plate. Shields quickly got him in a 2-2 count, but left a curveball in the middle of the plate which Swisher deposited into the right center field seats to tie the game 2-2.

Swisher then added to his RBI total by hitting a bases loaded double into left center. BJ Upton misplayed the ball allowing three to score, pushing the score to 6-2, (Brett Gardner scored on a wild pitch earlier). Speaking of Gardner, he hit a two-run shot off Sonnestine in the 8th to round out the Yankees scoring 8-2.

Mitre was brought in to close the game and gave up three straight singles. He then gave up a Sac Fly to Upton and Zobrist, Longoria singled and Johnson flied out to end the game...final score 8-5.

Sabathia is now 13-4 on the year and Swisher has 70 RBIs out of the six spot in the lineup.

I stick with my home town crew and then take over completely, making some trades and signings which make the team "my own" instead of getting caught up with the regular season. And yeah I can't simulate a game, for me it doesn't feel like my team or my stats unless I am the one who was controlling my team when hitting those homeruns etc. I'm playing every game and am through the All Star Break, I'm just planning on sticking with the 2010 version of the Show and playing through as many seasons as I can with this Brewers team to force myself to at least get a couple seasons under the belt. I'm pretty confident I can get this 2010 season done before the 2011 campaign is finished.

The Yankees bats came alive again after the starter left the game. The Bronx Bombers are going back to what them a championship dynasty in the late nineties by punishing team's relief corp. Cahill's first start in pinstripes wasn't anything to write home about, but he gave the team a chance to win. However, he's going to have to learn to conserve pitches because it took him 102 pitches to get through six innings.

Earlier this month, the Tampa Bay Rays took three games of four at Yankees Stadium, but have since gone 5-5 to fall 3.5 games back in the Wild Card Standings.
